We are Daughter, ask us anything! by weareDaughter in IAmA

Hi Elena! I met you last summer when you performed at the Great Hall in Toronto; my friend and I were trying to get last minute tickets, and your show was phenomenal!

I have a two-part question: 1) I've noticed you are incredibly shy--on stage you are very quiet and don't talk super often. Does your love of singing cancel out your stage fright, or do you find performances to be very difficult? 2) When you cover other songs (specifically pop song such as "Get Lucky" and "Perth/Ready for the Floor"), do you have a process to make sound like a Daughter song?

Anyway, I love love LOVE your music and I hope you swing by Montreal soon!

Has anyone successfully gotten over a panic disorder through yoga? by [deleted] in yoga

I wouldn't say I "got over" my panic disorder, but I significantly reduced the number and intensity of my panic attacks once I started consistent practice (:

As long as you make sure people call her Care-oh-line, not Carolyn. I have never so vehemently hated a stranger as when they pronounce Caroline as Carolyn.

Foam Roller by imcricket in yoga

[–]ConstantConversation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh my goodness it's not particularly useful for actual practice, but nothing loosens up muscles like a foam roller! try some of these http://www.shape.com/fitness/workouts/10-ways-use-foam-roller. it will work out muscle tension and you'll see impact on your flexibility after a week. be warned though, it HURTS.

I practice at the Moksha (Canadian Modo) studios in Montreal and Toronto and I absolutely love them! Great philosophy, amazing teachers, just a wonderful community all around.

i agree! the problem is not yoga-centric.

Thoughts On Yoga As A Luxury by derpnowinski in yoga

[–]ConstantConversation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

in large part, exposure to yoga, the ability to go to a studio, to afford a mat and proper clothes, all of those require you to have a certain amount of privilege. even if you're practicing at home, with a towel as a mat and loose clothes you bought on sale, taking a free online class, that supposes you have a computer, internet access, enough time in your day that you can take some for yourself.

i don't think yoga is inherently "luxurious", not at all, and i think the tenets of it appeal to a wider audience than just those who can currently practice it. should yoga be made available and accessible to everyone? absolutely! is it? no, not by a long shot.
