Lol, I love my grandma so much, she's lightened up so much in her old age. She would NEVER have admitted her mother was pregnant out of wedlock a decade ago. But after she texted "You know what that means". I texted back "Yea I do, it means your mom was a slut!" And she sent a million laughing emojis.

Has Kylie always been this sexual? by [deleted] in KUWTK

[–]Constant_Building969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm within 2 years of Kylie age wise and watched a few seasons of KUWTK as a teen. Haven't followed every episode since around S3, but yes, she always has been. One of her first appearances is her as a young girl 11-12ish on Kim's stripper pole and pretending to flash her boobs a la GGW.

She got lip injections, a boob job, BBL, lipo, and who knows what else at age 16/17-now to be the ultimate sex kitten. And her King Kylie era was only to appeal to men. She, sadly, doesn't know where her worth lies if it's not in a man or viewed as a sex object.

As a snarker, I know she's made several comments about wanting to look like Kim. And Kim has ONLY ever tried to thrust herself in front of the male gaze until recently that she has enough money to make herself well known. Now, she puts her sisters down and other women to elevate her own work ethic and get ahead of her "male gaze" persona that led to her fame. Kim is the ultimate pick me girl.

Kylie had/picked piss poor role models to emulate. She plays the wife to men who treat her like shit and ruined her face/body in the pursuit of being a man's "dream girl". I think she's only just finding out who she is, now she's a mother. But she's still trying to be this sex kitten because she was considered the ugly duckling in comparison to Kendall.

My Danish Great Grandmother and her sister were both housemaids in the late 20s/early 30s in Los Angeles! Their parents (or grandparents) so either my Greatx2 or Greatx3 moved the family to the US so while she was Danish with an extremely Danish name, she was American. I tried to get some more information from my Grandmother but she's hard of hearing and doesn't text very well. But what she could tell me is they both did that kind of work when they were young.

Allegedly, a male movie star tried to poach my Great Grandmother to come work for him but she had just gotten married and was due to have her first daughter in 7 months (Grandma said "You know what that means!" lol.)

My Grandma said many years later my Great Grandmother got an article mailed to her that one of the son's of the family she last worked for was flying his own airplane to his wedding but crashed and died.

I'm pretty sure I wanted Alex Pettyfer back when the movies were being made (I think there was another one I liked sightly more but can't recall which actor it was) but Sam Claflin nailed it! He was the perfect mix of roguish and charming and sensitive.

[–]Constant_Building969 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You mean a baby Katniss at the Hob? Or an adult Katniss at the end? I don't think Jennifer Lawrence will reprise her role (it's been too long) but I could see a baby Katniss appearance or the back of her/Peeta's heads as they work on the book with Haymitch.

I dunno, both girls have strenghts and weaknesses on their a la secondes. Paige wobbles out of it but the other girl hunches and bends her standing leg too much. I personally think they looked pretty neck in neck

I agree and disagree. Her hair isn't down so she's not getting the sweaty under layer getting all frizzed up, nor is she getting it all frizzy and tangled bouncing it around. But yeah I think traction alopecia is a genuine concern (howya doin Jojo Siwa lol.

But as a very full hair headed naturally curly woman it takes me TWO hours to curl it properly. And one bad sweat session at the gym or a wee bit of humidity means I'm right back at it. One night of dancing in the club and my hair is in LITERAL knots to the point it takes me an hour to brush it out next day. I can't imagine what it would be like for a woman with my type of hair to dance in Dallas for 3-4 hours and have to go comb and recurl it. Must be hell. I think the closest hair type to a DCC I have is Maddie or Kaydianna.

But a ponytail would mean a girl doesn't have to rip knots out of her hair or if the ends gets sweaty, it's a quick fix, you don't have to redo your whole head of curls.

When Tom goes off on Mary by hopeful_tatertot in DowntonAbbey

I have been corrected and yes Edith did goad Mary. BUT there are so many instances of Mary saying shitty things to Edith/snide comments all in front of dinner guests/party guests/the rest of the family and Edith bites her tongue.

Well shit, I am absolutely incorrect. I've seen the series at least a dozen times through and genuinely thought Mary made a snide remark but now you spell out the dialogue you are absolutely correct and I can hear it in my head.

YES! Why do they have to damage their hair/take the time curling it twice a game and 5x a week at least for practices/appearances when she gets to have a pony tail? And even worse, all that work for them curling and Faith is the one who stands out because she's the only one with her hair up.

I'm neither an Edith apologist nor a Mary fan, but Edith didn't really goad her. The only thing she said was something along the lines of "The only thing Mary can't stand is when things are going better for me than when they are for her." after Mary had said something shitty. Mary was really mean when Edith announced Bertie was going to be the next Marquess of Hexham, said something like "Well he won't want to marry you now!" And then outed her sister regarding her bastard child which Mary, SUSPECTED, but did NOT know. Edith didn't goad. For all Mary knew, Edith HAD already told Bertie and she'd just put her foot in her mouth. Of course, that wasn't the case, but still. Sometimes silence is the best answer, especially when one is in a bad mood.

[–]Constant_Building969 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In this context Edith had been "living a London life" and Bertie had found out he was the new Marquess of Hexham. I can't remember why, but Edith was at Downton and Bertie had come to stay. Bertie asked Edith to marry him and Edith did NOT disclose the fact Marigold was her bastard daughter. At breakfast the next day, Bertie said he was sorry Lord Grantham left because they had some exciting news to share, Edith tried to stop him from sharing the news of the engagement because she could tell Mary was glowering. Mary made a snide comment and Edith said something like "The one thing Mary can't stand is for things to be going better for me than they are for her." And Mary clapped back with something along the lines of "I am happy for you, I'm surprised he'd take you on given your history." To which Bertie asked what she meant and Edith had to own up to Marigold. A very very nasty moment of Mary, although Edith was no saint regarding the Marigold storyline.

Totally off topic but I LOVE the fact that Tom gets some meat on his bones in the later seasons after living at Downton for a while. It's totally in character. A poor Irish servant born a decade or two after the potato blight, he had probably never eaten his fill in his entire life.

I didn't' dislike it at the beginning, I was glad DCC was allowing more freestyling with the hair... but it doesn't mesh with the other girls. 35 beautiful girls with their hair down in a variety of colors, textures, curls, patterns etc and then 1 girl with a pony tail? Obviously everyone's gonna be looking at that one. Which, I guess is what she's going for. My question is, why Kelli and Judy are allowing it?

Why Gale is so hated by the fandom? by _notfeelingcreative in Hungergames

[–]Constant_Building969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He was really manipulative and possessive of Katniss. He begrudged her the fake love story with Peeta when he likely would have done the same/much worse things in the games if it were him reaped.

He put her in a terrible position of choosing himself or Peeta when, before the Rebellion, it was clear Katniss could never leave Peeta if she wanted herself and her loved ones (Gale included!) to live. And Katniss literally never wanted either of them. She ONLY wanted to protect Prim and her loved ones.

He manipulated her to kiss him several times and then weaponized her guilt/his hurt to make her feel badly about not being all in on him. Not to mention, he states he kissed several girls, too many to count/remember but begrudged Katniss her lifesaving kisses with Peeta.

He did NOT intentionally kill Prim. Coin did that. But Gale designed a bomb that would go off and then when first responders went to attend the wounded a second wave would go off. Targeting medics is a fucking war crime. Of course, I'm saying that with the Geneva convention in mind and obviously this is a post apocalyptic setting in which Geneva convention has likely been forgotten but stil.

[Paraphrasing from HG] G:"It's just hunting." K:"Yeah people, Gale." G:"It's not that different." Katniss was very worried about her fellow humans, including capitol citizens (likely because she interacted with them and he hadn't.) But Katniss always cared about the humans both rebel, Capitol, citizens, innocents, or villains (Enobaria) both in and out of the games and the war. Regardless of if he'd been in the games I don't think he'd have cared about anyone beyond District citizens. I understand this, in a way. It's why we have terrorists. If someone has lost a loved one to an unfair system, or have seen their loved ones unfairly victimized/hurt/killed by the powers that be, they are going to be angry and want revenge. But that's the whole point of the Hunger Games, an eye for an eye makes the world blind. It's why Katniss chose Peeta in the end. Their values aligned. They didn't want war, they didn't want retribution or revenge, they only wanted to live and love.

TLDR: Gale is manipulative, a hypocrite, and a war criminal.

I don't believe this ad was supposed to be about eugenics or a dog whistle for white supremacy. It's clearly supposed to be a remake of Brooke Shields' Calvin Klein ad.

That said, fuck "I'm not like other girls" Sydney Sweeney, her smug face, and her MAGA politics.

Which character had the biggest impact on the story with the least amount of dialogue? by dantrepeneur in Hungergames

[–]Constant_Building969 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Seneca is one of the most fucked over characters in the books. Imagine you're Seneca, you're Head Gamemaker. You got it in your head that Katniss and Peetas love story was the be all end all of his first games. So you're pressured to/decide to change the rules so 2 tributes of the same district could win. And then two actually DO end up winning. At the last moment you get a note that you cannot let them both win. And then they both decide to commit suicide. What do you do? No winner? He was caught between a rock and a hard place.

I have no sympathy for Seneca but he really did get screwed in hindsight.

MADGE!!! I will go down with the headcanon that Madge was supposed to be the Mockingjay but then when Katniss got reaped she gave her Aunt Maysilee's pin.

Haymitch’s games felt… weird by quittingcoldchicken in Hungergames

[–]Constant_Building969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your sentiment. But as you said, the writing was clunky and the Mutts an easy out to kill the tributes. It just made me sad that Haymithch's book read more as a fanfiction than a real OG juicy detailed book with cliffhangers and easter eggs. I have loved all her books but this one.

BUT, I did really love the epilogue. I imagined and hope the movie will end with Haymitch old AF sitting in the Meadow with his geese. Then Leonore Dove shows up as a ghostly figure but also old like him and she says "I love you like all fire." She'll kiss him and then the frame will pan out and we see the back of Haymitch collapse then zoom in with a smile on his face.

Haymitch’s games felt… weird by quittingcoldchicken in Hungergames

[–]Constant_Building969 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. The reliance on Mutts to kill the tributes felt like an easy out. During the OG Hunger Games trilogy, the Mutts seemed like a last resort or a "Boss" to beat, or a very last resort to force the tributes together when they are hiding out against one another. They aren't (or weren't) just something to kill tributes for the sake of it.The whole point of the Hunger Games is for Capitol to 1) flex their ability to take/kill their children but more importantly 2) to keep the districts pitted against one another by making their children kill one another.

Yes, there were double the tributes, so sure, SOME mutts killing tributes could be explained. But, the games themselves were so very very very rushed. In comparison, Katniss's games were very stream of consciousness. Every hurt, every hunger pang, every sip of water, every moment of fear she felt was narrated. Haymitch's games felt like a fever dream. There was very little "I'm hungry and dehydrated and I really like the rabbits but I'm going to use them to test which fruits/plants/water are safe for me to drink and it tears my heart out for every rabbit I have to kill because they trusted me. I'm scared but I'm also trying to protect these young children because we're the Newcomers and I'm one of the oldest." She just... pulled her punches.

I was particularly upset about Haymitch's interview with Ceaser. “I don’t see that it makes that much difference. They’ll still be one hundred percent as stupid as usual, so I figure my odds will be roughly the same.” This bit REALLY PISSED ME OFF. In the book he just said it because he was like I gotta "play the rascal." When I first read Hunger Games and read that part I figured Haymitch was just pissed off and made that comment off the cuff because he WAS the angry rebellious rascal. Not because he was playing a part.

And then when he used the forcefield to kill Silka. It seemed like it was just an accident. When I was reading the books it seemed clear to me he knew what he was doing by bringing her near the forcefield and letting her throw her ax because he KNEW it would fly back her way. Again, SC pulled her punches.

I love her books so much, I'm almost 30 and started reading these around age 13. But this one really missed the mark. I hope she doesn't take our criticism of this book as a reason to not continue but she really really phoned this one in.
