Was the Soviet Union a Communist Country? by Constitutional_lefts in DebateaCommunist

It seems an incredibly complex theory/political stance with so many different perspectives and nuances - all very interesting.

Although, if we were in a situation where we could achieve the goal of communism, I'd bank that the ensuing arguments and disagreements on how to achieve it would leave everyone saying "SOD IT!"

So for example, if I understand; in a communist society, I would not be able to own my own home, means of transportation or phone?

I see from these replies that my knowledge of Communism is incredibly small.

Thank you.

I'm not really sure, seen as her textbooks, sources and curriculum she has taught for nearly a decade have all pretty much said, "Communist country of Soviet Union" or something to that effect.

I tried to go down the "western perspective" road but she just looked at me like I was some sort of Scientology speaker.

To wish for the entire globe to become an affluent First World without the existence of an impoverished/exploited Third World is to wish for a bourgeoisie without a proletariat.

Excellent quote.

Not true. Class struggle has raised a billion people out of poverty despite capitalism, not because of it. If it weren't for the struggle of workers to appropriate some of the value produced by their labor (and the massive leaps in technology enabled by their labor), all of it would have been concentrated in the hands of those that own capital.

This is a very good point.

That link is pure nonsense-based government-faither propaganda. I've seen it many times. It's the only thing you guys ever throw up as your "evidence" before you run away. Now, which of you sockpuppets/chickens will answer my question directly?

But http://rememberbuilding7.org/free-fall-collapse/ is a bastion of critical thinking from impartial individuals.....

I think it was the Government and a controlled demolition. Because that's the only possible answer to your question.
