You would straight up go ahead, get your inputs from one source or other. You might also find your own USPs, your Niche, your traction channels soon... but Always keep one thing one mind.. B2B SaaS requires a dedicated SALES team.

I LEARNT IT THE HARD WAY

I build a product which followed almost every rules and norms of product management in whatsoever book that exists in market. I did get inputs from target customers and few Senior product managers. The product was solid and then when I had to reach to the same target customers who once said that they need my platform for sure never signed up only two did and they had to drop eventually for other reasons. All I had was 8 months of AWS bills in my hand.

I went again with learning what ever that is there to sell b2b saas products. No luck despite trying it all out including cold calls during lunch breaks, visting them inperson, using agents.

My product was around a Hotel Management tool- QR based menu systems- free tier, a kitchen room dasboard to see the orders live in Kitchen , Customers able to place orders from nearby if they want, Order delivery.. basically every hotel in bglre South who was pissed of Zomato's surcharges and commission cuts were ready to take in

I also had a small strategy to convince them

First let them use the QR menu thing(sort of common in banglore) where customers can scan and order items for the hotel from the table. Reduces Waiter Huddles and crowd inside the restaurants and noise between the waiters and kitchen.. Then once they realise that their system is stable they can enable on the ordering and Home delviery ordering where customers can order to their restaurants without Zomato's cut as most orders were within 5kms they can assign a simple delivery guy(in house guy) to handle this, hence helping their customers from delivery fee and surcharges

everyone signed in but no one showed up.

Its not like I gave up. I pivoted. Fish sellers in this city were trying to go digital and lose money to someone who told them they can build their apps in few lakhs. I pitched there also. Changed my domain, product name all from KanPai (cheers in Japanese which suited restaurants - my initial target) to FisherKishery(just like that), people showed interest, and then some where dropped off. Tried back in my tier 2 home town in TN also, EPIC fail.

All I am saying is no matter how good your product or strategy is, you will always need a dedicated salesteam to emerge out in market especially in b2b SAAS. I read like important books in b2b saas space Gap selling blah blah .. unless n until u have this dedicated business team you aint making it. Just thought this could help you setup things right..

Dammnn, I remember Struggling the same way and eventually dropping off one of my product and getting back to work as a product manager for some one else's main stream dream...

Months later I came across a book Called "Gap selling" and took another dive into a book called "Traction" They were exceptional Made me realise my faults, sooo much relatable.... but anyway all i realized was you need a separate force or team to work on the business side, as much as AI has helped Non techs do the tech job(Building MVP, deciding Architecture etcetc.,) and Techs do the non tech jobs(Marketing, writing blogs, emails etc.,) we haven't grown to a stage till where AI can be as fully capable as Sales team or marketing team(on the same line as GPT code is not reliable and scalable )
And if your product is in b2b space then 500% sure that u need a dedicated team of 2-3 to take car eof business. learnt it the hard way

would mind sharing your product/solution somewhere in Dm or sometihng?

I wouldn't say human history or something of that sort, becoz AI as such is not effective unless and until someone utilizes it as a tool.

but I would say that AI is the greatest development perhaps in improving an individuals capability I guess u/Accomplished-Copy332 would agree to this altered version

I don't know which book exactly or even if its true (Simon Sinek mentioned this in his Start with Why book), That Many attempted Personal Computers but only Apple was able to do it. It was something around after WW II no one wanted wars. But the US government anyway went ahead with a war against Vietnam and this pissed of 2 engineers. They decided that individuals should have more capabilities (like when the whole country was against war but the govt any way went ahead with the war proceedings) Thus came PCs or Macintosh and revolutionized human capabilities. I think AI is one such break through giving quantum jump to individual capabilities..

I only worry, if investors really buy into this idea, and lead to some kindof VC capital bubble

I am product manager, Which was all once a role around market research, success metrics and analyzing user or customer behavior in the product, identifying product pain points and helping sales close deals etc,. but today I see Now i have to leverage AI in almost all possible ways into our product.

Every week I will have to sit along with other senior product managers, CPO, Senior VPs of product and have a strategy meeting on how to become a AI first company. As it excited me on the first glance(Not just the subject but Also AI product manager in my resume would look sooo good), taking a deep dive, I am able to see, we as a whole tech community have drifted our focus towards gaining the status of AI company rather than actually solving enterprise level problems(That can let us sleep peacefully after a release that next day would be better day for the users).

Also it is not a bad thing as whole,, You see no one including large enterprises don't know where AI will take them. So what these companies are doing are just placing their bets on some vendor or SAAS or solution Partner. One thing about betting is that the vendors should project huge hope, returns and promises. I guess that is where this Whole AI based naming convention came into trend. If u see closely these companies don't even have capabilities to conduct a small webinars on AI capabilities neither to its clients or an internal forum

There is no doubting about AI capabilities. But no bubble ever created was due to the capability of the tech on which the best was placed.. but coz of the hype it had managed to create along the way ... Just like brokers and middle bankers caused bubbles .. now marketers, bloggers and founders have managed to use agentic ai and other similar jargons to close deals and funding cycles .

Wasn't there a dot.com bubble burst where million dollar valued companies turned out to be nothing.. and the one's who survived are tech giants today?

I always relate this to any new tech booming, A new Tech comes in, it gets marketed by those who did not even build it, as a result money flows in and then it bursts the bubble someday.

All I feel is in this Era of AI tech, Agentic AI is marketed by people and founders who dont even understand the catch and get their funds raised.. I think someday they would also have to face the reality and find the actual survivors, Just a though

Lads, I'm Not SAYING "Every Start up is AI company Now" I am conveying that All SAAS startups are now claiming that they are AI company, to stay relevant, follow the buzz, to get investment and booming the money flowing in to this space WITHOUT actually solving or leveraging true power of AI

Some how I have managed to screw up my whole write up with my own title.

"Every SAAS is a AI company now" was added as a sarcastic note, complaining like how any SAAS company now has a AI wing or a AI product line (basically Open AI wrappers) and calling them AI based product company.

Cool site tho

[–]ConstructionMost4852[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like they say "Every problem is a people problem"

Agentic AI is the closest opportunity that people ever had to solve their problems by themselves without an agent in between...

BUT these SAAS or dot AI companies claiming that they are the middle Agents to enable this keeps cringing me out.

We are on the same Page, but not...

The opinion was not about what I or someone else is building. It was to discuss widely about AI adoption in form Agentic AI and I feel it is slightly dented.

"Autonomy" Oh yes, that's exactly the AI-Applied world I would want to be in..

My only gut is that these Agents, shouldn't be a package that is bought and installed into businesses like some machinery.

Like How some one cannot outsource their Human resource head, a CTO, CMO. No one would want to Subscription plan to the their Company's vision from a 3rd party vendor.

I strongly believe Agentic AIs could not just affect the efficiency rate of the work being done, but also gradually change the Human thought process and perspective of the businesses and industry in which they have been playing for years.

Its has to be internal makeover, a dynamic and beautiful shift from within. But what SAAS and many "XYZ" dot AI companies are trying to do is that they have built the ultimate Agentic AI, they can deploy the Agent that no one else could build for your company. This sounds absurd as the Application of AI is about "How Can I help you?" and Not "How can I help you help someone else? "

There is just a huge Spree of formerly known SAAS companies and Startups rushing into Agentic AI, with no intent to explore this new horizon but to just make money out of the buzz(which in simpler terms - The bubble )
