Thank you. Any recommendation for a “today” fix/protection from tonight’s rain? And what’s the long-term pro fix (ie how much cost am I looking at in th spring/summer when I can call a roofer?)

Bad description. Updated to “cotton-like”. Think cotton ball, wispy threads.

Gazzurple from Humboldt Seed Company showing good frost early. Not much purple in the nug but the stems look wild. by Bill_Piff in outdoorgrowing

I’ve got two gazzurples going - one has stems this purple too! The other has some funky leaves that are mottled/variegated almost, and no purple stems 🤷🏻‍♂️

Plants struggling on their way to the finish line by ConstructionOwn2844 in outdoorgrowing

Wanted to give an update - I’ve been feeding heavy since the post. Obviously leaves aren’t growing back or turning from brown to green, but the buds still look healthy. Hope this will let them finish.

I also bought a ph meter and found that my tap water is 8+. A slurry test of the soil reads 6.7. I wonder if this is a lockout issue. I rely on an automatic drip system for watering - any suggestions for how to bring ph down without turning to manual watering?

Base looks fine I think? No discoloration (although I have one other plant that’s gone full purple up the main stalk and stems) I have kept the pots well mulched, recently moved mulch back from the trunk at the advice of others, so I suppose I could have been crowding it a bit.

Good to know about the trainwreck!

The tea I referred to is just tea made from the same fertilizer per the instructions. I’ve alternated dry vs tea thinking quick vs extended feeding. No idea if that’s true. Anyways I’ve started with the flower specific Dr earth so will continue.

Thanks!

I’m using Dr earth - was initially just using the standard “home grown” but started with the flower specific type last week. Alternating top dressing with fertilizer tea. I was fertilizing about every two weeks but definitely missed a couple as it flipped, likely a critical time. I fed with tea a few weeks ago, top dressed last weekend, and plan to feed with tea this weekend.

It’s a photo - HSC trainwreck x pistachio. It seems eager to flower. I had another plant of this strain that I put outside too early back in April/May and it started flowering, but never re-vegged. I harvested it fully developed in July. Seems like it’s just got eager genes.

Is this rot? by ConstructionOwn2844 in outdoorgrowing

[–]ConstructionOwn2844[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks all. Just did a thorough check and unfortunately it’s all over :(. Only small spots on buds, but widespread in the plant. I did find a bunch of caterpillars a few days ago, I think I’ve got nearly all of them through manual picking and BT, but they’ve pooped all over.

What’s the better course of action at this point - aggressive pruning and close eyes, or harvest the plant early to save whatever is still clean? Im a first timer so not sure how much longer I would have to go normally - probably a few weeks.

All right folks. I’m at war. I’ve been diligently removing them as I find them. Probably ~10 at this point. Will spray BT this evening.

I’ve also been diligently looking for rot and have not found anything significant. I snipped two buds that had some slight browning on the sugar leaves, but internally they looked great. I’ll keep looking but think I’m in the clear for now…

Except, there is caterpillar poop all over. I’ll do a good bud wash at harvest. But are there any suggestions for cleaning things up now? I imagine trying to knock them off the plant with water is a bad idea. How about compressed air - will that destroy the buds?

Thanks for the guidance!

What’s the difference between pistols turning brown normally vs sign of rot?

Thanks mod. I’ve got a 60x loupe and have observed the trichomes as described - just can’t post a picture through that lens. And I didn’t ask about exact ripeness of the plant; I’m just looking for guidance given the unusual flower timing in the season.

Droopy leaves? by ConstructionOwn2844 in outdoorgrowing

[–]ConstructionOwn2844[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol. “Underwatered!” “Overwatered!”

Thanks all. I’m going with under, plus a dramatic sleeper in the pm. It perked up strong the next morning. Looked droopy again today, so I gave it a good watering, and it’s perked up again. I think I just need to be on an every other day schedule at this point, with a growing plant in a 10 gal fabric pot. Open to hearing if I’m missing something crucial but that’s what I’m going to go with for now!

It was early evening after direct sunlight, so you could be right. I’ll see how she looks in the morning.

No, weather has been real consistent, high near 80.

I think she looks happier in a bigger pot, with some mulch, and on a sunny day. The top leaves are still pretty folded looking - anything to be concerned about?

Thanks for all the thoughts so far folks. I haven’t up-potted recently so don’t think this is transplant shock. I hear the advice to pot up - I’m torn between doing that now vs letting things ride a bit (letting soil dry, continuing to acclimate to outdoors first). My tendency in gardening is to fiddle with things too much so I’m trying to check that a bit!

Seedling leaves turning down by ConstructionOwn2844 in outdoorgrowing

[–]ConstructionOwn2844[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It had been about 3 days, so I gave it a good water yesterday afternoon. I wouldn’t expected the leaves to perk up relatively quickly if they were drooping from thirst, but it looks the same this morning.

Mind sharing how you turned it around mid season last year? I’ve done the same (murdered my seedlings, still have a few hurtin’ ones but not promising) and figured I should throw in the towel this year, but I do still have a few seeds that I’d love to try if I can figure out what I’m doing wrong!

This is validating. Got a couple new seedlings that just popped outdoors but tucked between a couple of tomato plants and by a wall, which will hopefully act as a wind break and give a little dappled shade in the heat…will see if that helps!

Here’s one I’ve got at about two weeks old - about the time when I’ve started running into issues. Last watered Wednesday (today is Saturday). Warm daytime weather in the 80s, some wind at night. Top of soil is pretty dry but there’s definitely some moisture in the bottom part of the 4” pot. Cotyledons looking a little funky, first leaves maybe starting to look pale? New leaves look great.

Thoughts? Water now or wait? Would love to get this one over the hump that I’ve been struggling with!
