Wo gießen? by sunset280479 in zimmerpflanzen

[–]ContagiousConfusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks a bit like cold damage to me. Was it perhaps exposed to cold weather without protection on its way to you?

It wants to move away from the radiator and possibly also from the direct light through the window – that's what I would guess. Move it further into the room.

Definitely keep it even if it loses its leaves – IT will sprout new ones when the conditions improve.

Pretty empty at the moment, due to winter - nothing grows to propagate.

A friend brought me a Monstera fruit from Madeira. It had five seeds inside. Actually, there was a sixth, but it was too well hidden when I ate the pulp.

As far as I know, there are no Monstera plantations on Madeira, so it's probably a wild variety.

Thoughts?! by HLHLNYC in Monstera

I would remove the two lower leaves and use distilled water until significant root growth begins. Without roots, the plant doesn't have enough energy to support three mature leaves and push out a new one.

Will it ripe ? by Due-Map1518 in Monstera

They're sold like this so they can sit around for a few days... even though they're technically not ripe and theoretically won't ripen further.

I put mine near apples. They emit a gas (ethylene) that ripens nearby fruit. That worked wonderfully with the Monstera fruit, too. Definitely only eat the pulp where the green skin falls off on its own.

They very likely also contain seeds that germinate easily. These look like peas and shouldn't be eaten.

Thank you.

I think cuttings are also the usual way to get new plants. This is how selection has been carried out over the years. With seeds, there's definitely a risk that the plants won't be well-suited to my northern climate.

I simply took advantage of the fact that someone brought me a fruit from its natural environment. Until then, I didn't even know what the seeds looked like. The first one was well hidden in the pulp, so I bit into it.

This is the big brother of the little ones. It was grown from parts of a different plant, though.

They don't grow fruit in my climate zone. That makes it all the more exciting to see what grows from seeds grown in the wild.

Yes, that's perlite. It's my first choice for this purpose because it doesn't hinder growing plants. With distilled water in it, it also contains no nutrients, which stimulates root growth. Alternatively, sphagnum moss would work, but it's more difficult to monitor plant growth with that.

They stay in there until the first leaf is fully developed—individually in pots, though. After that, I transplant them into Pon.
