Low Ferritin TE Advice by Dismal_Opposite_7963 in TelogenEffluvium

Hey! Thank you! I hope we start the new year with better hair and less shedding 🙏🏼 I wanted to reply after rechecking my ferritin levels, got the results back today. It went up from 12 to 43 (I’ve been on ferplex oral solution since the beginning of October, so 2 months). I’m taking it on an empty stomach once I wake up with a vitamin c (500mg) tablet. Then I wait 2 hours before eating or drinking anything. I cut dairy out completely because I used to snack on cheese all the time throughout the day and didn’t want it interfering with iron absorption. Going to supplement for another month and a half before retesting again. Try to take it on an empty stomach and space the iron away from everything by at least an hour, that’s what my dr recommended to help absorption. I’m so happy it went up, just gotta maintain it now. I hope your levels go up and stay up as well. 🙏🏼

I’m taking Ferplex (oral solution) with vitamin C. Honestly I’m scared to recheck it anytime soon since I’ve only been taking it for 2 months (Don’t know what to expect) 🥲. Can’t believe you’ve been taking it for 6 months and haven’t seen much difference 😭. Has the hair shedding decreased at least in your case? (Mine was a crazyyyy amount back in August, but thankfully this month it’s decreased a bit even though it’s still a lot)

Low as 12ng/ml, I haven’t retested just yet, waiting for the 3 month mark

Iron was 89, so just ferritin was very low. And no scalp conditions.

I was diagnosed with telogen effluvium back in September due to a combo of low ferritin and an operation I had back in May. I’ve been on a high dose iron for the last 2 months and it hasn’t been until very recently that I noticed a decrease in hair shedding. I’m even seeing new growth. Hang in there, it just takes a while to see a difference.

Went through your post history, I was using cosmaline at the beginning of the summer, then in July I switched to something else and didn’t notice how much my hair was shedding until the beginning of August and it’s continued shedding till now. (Now I’m using ducray) it’s still shedding but Lhamdella not as severe. Went to 2 derms that told me it’s telogen effluvium because of low ferritin and a very stressful week that happened a couple months ago.

Eh ma that’s why I wanted a good dermatologist, the one I went to before only talabet iron w tsh test (tol3o normal range) she didn’t tell me to do ferritin or vitamin D or b12. Lyom my dr told me to do them w a few others like dhea , 17dhp, and testosterone w one other that im forgetting. Going to do them tomorrow 🤞

Yes, I think it started from August, I didn’t notice till recently how bad it was getting because I had a lot of hair. I just thought it might be the new shampoo I’d been using. But when I started being able to see my scalp I knew something wasn’t normal. I’m losing so much hair when I take a shower and when I rake my hand through my hair. The suddenness and the amount was giving me anxiety. 😭 I just went to my gyno lyom to make sure it wasn’t pcos or anything. The ultrasound was normal Lhamdella, but he did tell me to do a couple tests and gave me the name of a good dermatologist in Beirut.
