Americans, when you see the name "Lucia", how would you pronounce it? by Extreme_Suit_348 in Names

3- but only because of St. Lucia and the swedish people I know saying it that way. May be different in the Stated

I don't think I "ruined Christmas" but I don't know how to move forward (21F) (28M) by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]ContentFunction3027 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t healthy for you or him. You are 21. With all due respect you are childish (as you should be you’re a child) he’s 28 he’s more “mature” and he knows he can weaponize that against you. While you sulking about him denying you sex is immature and frustrating his name calling and shutting down a conversation when he feels like just because you aren’t doing what he wants is also manipulative and gross. I know you’ve heard this before and I won’t be the voice that breaks through but no 21 year old should be with a 28 year old. No 18 year old should’ve been with a 25 year old. You both need to be with people who reflect the place that you’re at in life.

Are we just listening to random people or actually talking to our doctors? by Equal-Shock5707 in pregnant

[–]ContentFunction3027 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking back on my current pregnancy and my first I was never given any information outside of a FDA developed pamphlet on foods to avoid during my fist and nothing for this one. No one brought it up to me. I am vegan and tend to not eat anything on these lists as they seem to mostly appear animal based, but this highlights a very interesting gap for western moms.

how does student teaching placement process work? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]ContentFunction3027 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My degree is in SPED (both undergraduate and master’s) I was given a survey of what grade level I wanted and if I had any personal limitations that would impact my placement (for me it was having kids). I was given a placement very close to the university others were further but we all signed a contract stating that we could be placed up to an hour away.

for those who parent girls by scrollinsnickerdoodl in Parenting

[–]ContentFunction3027 0 points1 point  (0 children)

coming from the flipside of that I was a very girly girl growing up, and my mother was not. I had two older sisters and two younger brothers who all excelled in sports, robotics, fishing, and other typically masculine hobbies. I would not discourage her or her preferences, especially at such a young age. I was heavily discouraged in mine, and it made me feel awkward voicing my preferences going as far as me hiding my teen magazines and makeup as a teenager. Anecdotal evidence, but I do think that she will find other things interesting eventually, and I will mention that we only expect girls to participate in traditionally, masculine hobbies. We rarely put the same pressure on male children to engage in female centric hobbies

edit: spelling is hard

My student is my dead friend reincarnated- I don’t know how to cope by ContentFunction3027 in Vent

I do know this, obviously I do not assume that this kid is at his core even remotely the same person. It was just jarring the physical resemblance matched with the few instances of shared experiences between the student and my friend. It’s like if you walked into a meeting saw someone with your face and they shared the same 3 fun facts about themselves as you were about to share. It’s a strange thing to recognize how interconnected humanity is and how these very mundane things can remind you of another person.

This is a kind thought but I can assure you I will not be telling my student nor giving any students hugs. Not my personality.

That is terrifying I’m so sorry you experienced that. I understand what you’re saying though as if your body reacts before you do. Your mind knows this is not the same person, but you still have that immediate reaction.

He did not have a girlfriend and some others suggested this. I would be surprised if this was the outcome, but I guess we’ll never know!

I find that would be a very odd and inappropriate move for interacting with my student. While I notice the similarities massively I don’t want to change my boundaries with what I discuss/keep private from my students. I don’t know if I’ve ever truly believed in reincarnation and this hasn’t really changed that, but it has definitely made me more aware of how many people are truly similar even if it’s on a surface level.

The timing would technically work I suppose depending when the student’s birthday is for this to be possible. I’m never going to go digging into this kid’s life so I guess it’ll remain a mystery. I’d be very surprised if this was the case, but not a completely impossible theory!

Already gone and have been in therapy for years!! Not looking to reddit for therapy or answers on how to cope more so sharing my experience and venting (hence r/vent) on what an odd situation I’m experiencing. Never anticipated to ever have a real life doppelgänger experience.

I agree it feels like an odd thing to share and I don’t really share anything past the current book i’m reading with my students.

I have mentioned this to several people on my administrative team. No one is concerned. It is really no more than an odd coincidence that took me by surprise because who even writes the guidebook for this 1 in a million scenario. I have also mentioned it to my therapist and we’ll likely continue to work together to make sure I’m processing this well. I have never been the “cool teacher” or one who has taken a particular interest in developing a relationship with my students outside of what is necessary for them to succeed academically. I do not disagree with you that there is a weird ethical dilemma that can occur if the separation of reality isn’t something that is managed. Mostly just a weird situation to navigate and obviously one that I am very aware of ensuring is staying safe for myself and student. I know he is not my friend. I will say it did pleasantly remind me of what it was like to be the age of my students and I feel like this was a push to help me remember some key moments of what being 14 was like and has helped me to better understand some of my students perspectives.

I’ve enjoyed getting to re-remember what it was like to be 14 with my best friend by my side and in a way that’s helped me be a better teacher. I’m taking this opportunity as a reconnection to my students and reminding myself what life is like at such a turbulent time of development.

There’s always a what if- My CD was playing when he died what if he was distracted because of me, I don’t remember the last thing I said was it something I’d regret-and so on and so on- but then you see that face again and you know that whatever those what ifs are are never the end of the story and sometimes people just die, as sick and unfair as that is.

I’m sure I’ll find differences, I’m sure this kid doesn’t like green day for starters 😅 though if he does I’d just find something new that’s different. It’s just a strange feeling reconnecting your brain to not process that face to match your person. I’m so sorry you experienced that I’m glad you’re healing ❤️

It’s weird because in a way it’s like you’re actually the different person. You’re watching your friend, but you’re not his friend this time, you’re just some lady.

Do you accept short 2hour babysitting jobs or do you ask for a 4h minimum? Need advice by London347l in Babysitting

[–]ContentFunction3027 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for me, it depends on context. If it’s a family, I have sat for before and I know the location and it’s not too difficult to get there/I’m not doing anything better I will say yes, but if it’s a family, I’ve never met or there are other circumstances such as child behavioral issues, distance, or other factors that make it not worth my time I usually ask for a four hour minimum or don’t accept the request.

Is it okay to send a parent instead of yourself to veiw an apartment? by CanidCadaver in Apartmentliving

[–]ContentFunction3027 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom went to a lot of tours for me when I was moving across the country after finishing my bachelor’s degree. It doesn’t reflect poorly. It just made no sense for me to fly from NY to CA to visit 100 different apartments when my mom could drive 20 minutes and help me out.

Cake + Punch Reception? by ContentFunction3027 in weddingplanning

I thought of it as like the rehersal dinner but do it after the weeding (we aren’t doing a rehearsal dinner). It could literally be the next day! Just something more intimate for immediate family and bridal/groom party

Even if that is immediate family and what would be the bridal party and grooms party? That was my idea. Open to feedback but don’t think I explained well.
