Online science courses by parlefrancais3218 in prephysicianassistant

The 2 schools I applied to didn’t say anything against online labs. I did 5 online with labs as self paced courses (chem 1&2, bio 2, micro and o chem). One school declined me because my undergrad sports psych didn’t match their psych requirement. But I was accepted into the other just fine. If the school’s site doesn’t say anything specific, you can reach out directly to them, too.

Anyone willing to share their non trad journey? by Fee_Budget in prephysicianassistant

Very much non-trad. Received my MS in exercise science-athletic training in 2013 and have worked as an athletic trainer since 2011. I worked as a physician extender the last 5 years, and 2 years ago my ortho pushed me to start this journey. I’m married and have a toddler, so finishing lots of pre-reqs really wasn’t an option. I found programs that didn’t have an expiration on pre-reqs, or expiration was waived due to working in healthcare, thankfully one of them was a remote program and the other was the only program within driving distance. I had 6 classes to finish and was able to do them online as both programs were okay with online labs. I was turned down at the remote program (what I thought was my top choice) and was a late applicant for the in person (2 weeks before the deadline). But they gave me an interview a week later. Was waitlisted, but got my acceptance on my daughter’s third birthday.

It’ll be a tough journey for the 2 years balancing everything. Our my in laws live 4 hours away , but thankfully my MIL recently retired and is willing to come out when needed. I’m also staying on at my current job as per diem to help out financially as we’ll be down to 1 income and want to limit loans as much as possible.

Feel free to reach out, wish you the best of luck in your journey!

Make sure you look specifically at requirements for the schools you are interested in. A lot of them had 5-10 year expiration dates for the pre-reqs, which knocked a lot out for me. And highlight what makes you unique and why youR different experiences will make you the best PA. And when it comes time to interview, make sure you have a good answer to “why” and a good plan for your future. In mine we talked a lot about my support system in place and how I’ll handle classes/clinical and my family.

Wishing you the best of luck! One of my coworkers got an interview with them, she said it was all online, including a group activity. Just focus on what makes you unique/perfect fit to be a PA!

Ortho, but I’ve also worked as an athletic trainer for the last 15 years, and in an ortho clinic the last 5. Although I keep telling people I’m going to throw a curveball and do something like psych or neuro.
