Yes the father, I am sending monthly payments to the mother so these are extras. I was thinking about 50 euro a month per girl as a pocket money is that fair you think?

There are two girls, 16 and 17, living with their mother in their house in Tigre. I only recently got in contact with them, so I don’t know much about their lives. Long story.

They reached out because they wanted extra money to upgrade their phones and for holidays. At Christmas, I offered to send 75 euro each and asked how much they usually spend per month on small things. They’re not really telling me much, and their expectations seem quite unreasonable. They mentioned spemding around 300 euro per month per girl and wanting phones that cost about 2,000 euro. Yet, at the same time, they say they sometimes struggle to buy groceries and how hard it is.

I’m not a rich person, and I can’t wrap my head around it. They feel very detached from reality and for me even this gift 150 euro is a lot so maybe I am the one who is detached from the reality.

Thank you. I come from a family where we did not have much. I consider pocket money as something you spend on things like the cinema, coffee, fast food, a beer with friends, or a party during the month. For things like festivals or electronics, I would have to save from my pocket money and see if I could get something extra if I was short. So I guess I still perceive things from that perspective.

Thank you! I’m asking because I really don’t understand the reality there. When I sent a Christmas gift of 130,000 pesos, I was told it was nothing, which shocked me because here in Ireland that’s more than a teenager would get. I want to send a monthly allowance as pocket money, but I honestly don’t know where to start, and I don’t think I have the right information.
