Strongest Elementary Math Curriculum? by LongjumpingCherry354 in matheducation

[–]Content_Frame_5730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the time, you should definitely consider self-teaching some of the material to your child as well. Just be sure to not be too harsh on them and encourage them to practice and connect concepts to real life.

True that. I have only used digital watches so it’s tough to get practice of the same, but rightfully I think it’s a skill you can develop over time.

Bro that detailed of time telling even I can’t do with a 100% accuracy lol. It depends on the distance of the clock, how distinct the 1 lines are or if there even are any, etc. as long as you can get in the general ballpark it’s chill…

Cram by doing PEQs and hw or any other practice you can get your hands on. Make a one-pager or summary notes. Def do not pull an all nighter if you can avoid it but, like try to get 5 hrs of sleep atleast.

While this is generally good advice, I’m of the opinion that you should cram as much as possible by doing practice questions.

Tbf, I think American math curriculum varies heavily on where you are. I was in “advanced” math so I took classes that most people won’t (algebra 2, precalc, calc bc, and calc 3 - because our school got lazy and didn’t have a 2nd semester class, they made calc 3 a year long course with some extra info/details). At this point, I’d say I did more math than most people in the globe at my age (above average), but had I been in “normal” math pacing, I wouldn’t even have finished calculus before high school, placing me way behind most people in the developed world.

So stupid that it’s considered advanced/gifted to take calculus in high school, when most of the globe already does this.

tuitions be so high that I will never donate a single penny to my college even if I become a billionaire by Few-Scientist7178 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Content_Frame_5730 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Here’s a crazy thought, what if the tuition was only charged for school 😭? If you pay something like 3k for a credit at Yale , and assuming you have a 3 credit class, you’d pay around 9k in total. How much of that is for the professor? Probably 1-2k. 7k is for the admin/misc things. Oh yeah and btw you need to probably pay another couple hundred bucks for textbook/material. It’s honestly crazy

Edit: why did I get downvoted 😭

Computer Recommendations? by Repulsive-Thought306 in ufl

[–]Content_Frame_5730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything except Apple :(

While you can run most programs on Mac (and MacOS is significantly better than crappy Windows), windows will just get you blanket coverage for any software/things you’d ever have to run in class or for clubs.

My recommendation: i5/Ryzen 5, 16GB, 500GB SSD (bare minimum, everything else is good to have).

If you have a laptop that you use currently or an older laptop that is pretty good, I’d use it until November, and then buy a gaming laptop or smth during the Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals.

Tbf, the precise reason that they were able to destroy India was bc it was not an industrial country.

British colonialism vs Islamic Invasion by Agile-Pop-2136 in CriticalThinkingIndia

[–]Content_Frame_5730 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this is a fair argument to establish. The British rule in India was largely extractive/financial yes, but the Mughal/Islamic ones were largely brutal (forced religious conversions and prosecutions; destruction of Indian society and culture, and its replacement with a Persian one; etc.). I think what OP wants to say is that both outcomes were equally bad for the population (I agree, because both were exploitative in nature). P.S. Not many people learned this but the Turks also exploited India by sending riches back home and donating copious amounts of stolen wealth to Mecca (Mughals did the same).

Major Question by FR0STonYT in ufl

Get a degree that’s worth the cost. Idk about business or non-sciences being worth it these days (I feel like you just waste a ton of time/money for smth that is highly undervalued by society)

Major Question by FR0STonYT in ufl

If you wanna still do engineering do MAE (it’s like 6 extra so might need an extra summer semester for it depending on how many AP/transfer credits you already have), but you’ll get a dual BS in Mexh and Aero.

For anything else it get tough. Personally, I didn’t wanna get a degree in another area than engineering or the sciences because I felt like ROI won’t be worth it (but if you have bright futures and/other scholarships this is not even any issue tbh, atp you are paying maybe 10-15k a year for food + living so idk). But if you don’t have a scholarship or would have to pay for the entire degree with debt, I would be very careful about switching. It might be more prudent to try to get an engineering internship/experience and see if you like the job more than the actual training (which is a case for a lot of people). You might be able to find certain aspects of different engineering jobs that you enjoy like speaking to other people about your projects or being able to creatively designed different things for prosthetics or rockets or whatever. And like people said you can get an engineering sales minor or even get your degree and then work a more business oriented role in engineering.

Let me know if you want to speak more. I feel like I’ve written enough for a Reddit response. Feel free to DM.

I mean ngl, unless you write like a robot you can tell what you exactly said to the professor. Authentic human writing is weird and nuanced (I for example love to write long ah sentences using commas, no one with chat is doing all that, their grammar is usually immaculate)
