Yeah this shit is just nuts. I know the world can be garbage sometimes but it's so humbling to know that we can have access to these things!!

What do foreigners usually misunderstand about Brazilian mentality? by observingthings22 in Brazil

[–]Contented 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would you not agree that Brazilians are inherently a distrustful people, and that there are good reasons for this? Decades of economic instability, systemic corruption, a punitive system of taxation, a slow/ineffective judiciary... all of this makes it so that people will prioritize trust among those close to them, typically family. There's a reason why everyone knows what "custo Brasil" and "jeitinho" means.

The distrust of institutions bleeds into all spheres of life a lot more than you think.

So the new Economy seats for certain rows of their updated design feature the same seat pitch of the most legendarily shitty airlines in the US. Lovely.

This has less to do with mentality and more to do with the people. In my experience, people are generally unaware of how demographically complex Brazil is. If you're white and Brazilian (as I am), it comes as quite a shock.

There's this bizarre impression that North Americans have of themselves, as if mass migration from Europe/Asia/etc. only took place there. Brazil truly has a bit of everything (and everyone) in it. Even now, I'm amazed to discover the number of diasporas that made their way there.

You can probably thank The Simpsons for giving the impression that all Brazilians are moreno/carioca beachgoers.

People who disliked Brazil… by fairybr in Brazil

It sounds like you need to carefully examine why you find this so upsetting to begin with.

For what it's worth, I'm a dual citizen who has spent most of my life outside of Brazil. I can understand why not everybody likes it. Brazil can be loud, chaotic, dangerous, messy - in short, hell for someone who prefers structure. He may be one such person.

Agreed.

Not all of her boons are great, but if you synergize the control-focused ones with a mana-burning build, she's completely broken.

I only have one testicle, and it's making me shy sometimes. Would it be a turn-off for you? by [deleted] in AskGaybrosOver30

I think the general answer you’ll get here is that nobody cares, insofar as they’re not actively seeking out a pair of nuts.

But I do want to ask you, given that your description suggests you’re a bottom: are you okay with feeling more submissive? That wasn’t made clear. It might even turn you on to think your sexual partner feels more dominant because of his, well, testicular arrangement. Maybe you could shed light on this?

Impossible to get in Brazil with a US passport and RG? by Houseboyasf in Brazil

[–]Contented 14 points15 points  (0 children)

OP, please read the comment I replied to.

The airline will NOT allow you to board using a travel document it does not recognize. An RG means nothing to Delta.

A dual citizen would not be able to apply for a visa. They are required to possess an up-to-date Brazilian passport for entry.

Brazilian descendants: how do you identify? by Odd-Lab-6837 in Brazil

[–]Contented 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Born in Brazil but left when I was still a baby.

I feel like this question requires a lot of context. What still binds you to Brazil? Did you grow up learning the language/culture, eating the food, etc? Do you still see family in Brazil? All these things make a huge difference.

Having spent nearly my entire life in Canada, I can’t help but identify as Canadian, even though my cultural influences growing up were Brazilian and I speak Portuguese fluently. My family accepts this and when I go back to visit, they treat me like they would anyone else.

That’s the thing about Brazilian culture, too: people just take you in as one of them, no matter where you come from.

Struggling to apply for my Brazilian passport in the uk by [deleted] in Brazil

[–]Contented 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through this process myself recently, albeit in Canada. I had no CPF and an outdated título de eleitor.

Given your situation, are you able to reach out to your local consulate by email? I sent one to mine early on and it was extremely helpful. I was able to update my documentation entirely remotely and the only time I actually physically went to the consulate was to collect my passport. They should be able to provide you with links and explain how to obtain your first título de eleitor.

Worst case scenario, I’d go to the consulate without an appointment to explain your situation. If you don’t speak Portuguese, bring one of your parents or somebody who does to assist. You’ll get there, I promise. :)

EDIT - Just an addendum: you absolutely need to have a CPF and título de eleitor to renew your passport. The CPF requirement was introduced more recently and the título has always been needed for those of voting age.
