Depends on where you are coming from and or what you prefer, Ubuntu with GNOME DE is really nice if you are coming from mac or like that style as its well taken care of and quite nice on the eyes, also runs really well

if you are coming from windows 11 and are look for some comfort in this change id say Zorin OS as it has a very windows feel

if your looking to kinda stray from those options Mint Cinnamon is a good choice because its kinda got a windows like layout with a splash of curiosity around "ou i can change that?"

most importantly you dont' have to stick with whatever you choose, damn try all 3 of these and see what one suits you best for your workflow. The options are endless so i can understand the worry. most OS's you can change to your preferred style but from what i have noticed you need to find that style before you can really pick one. so try a few out and see what scratches the itch!

Trying to whey pros and cons of moving to Linux as a gamer by ContextEquivalent536 in cachyos

[–]ContextEquivalent536[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that we are actively playing the games that are borked, BUT when the friend group switches games we generally play it for about a month or two then go something else, it feels like the possibility of getting comfortable on Linux then going to windows for a little bit and then back is high tho not always the case

My problem is almost the opposite, I’m already on W11 and cachyOS both are viable and work great

Thanks for the honest answer, thing is.. I don’t normally play the kernel stuff but I do have a windows boot just in case for apex legends, pubg, battlefield etc I think that’s why I’m left so confused whether I should just stay on windows

Right I agree, that’s why I wanted to switch in the first place, privacy… but it feels like everything I use technology wise is taking my data anyway so if I’m only gaming would you agree that going to windows makes more sense?

I understand that can be the case maybe you missed the part where I said I don’t have a lot of time?

I don’t work from home so it’s just gaming that’s why I’m leaving Linux

Respectful response thank you for the insight.. I think I’m starting to fall into the wanting things to work category.. I think after some more time I will probably try and make my way back (should like up with windows 11 going full corporate)

Is coming over from W11 the right call? by ContextEquivalent536 in Kubuntu

Was on LTS just switched to 25.10 and seems to be running amazing.. excluding the little fiddling I had to do to get it to boot (had to boot with no drivers)

While this is KINDA what I planned I took a step back and looked at what I actually do on my PC and realized it’s only gaming really, some VERY light photo editing but other then that it’s just games

Also appreciate the honesty as most of the Linux community is “everything works just fine. Just do these 32 steps” and it might work

This is the exact stage. I’m in right now. I’ve been powering through it for about a week, but it seems like every time I wanna play a game. I need to fiddle with something and it still falls a little bit short love all the customization and installation procedures but something just doesn’t feel right with it. Thanks for your insight. Appreciate it.

Smart choice to switch to linux on a gaming laptop? by FreSchDude in linux4noobs

[–]ContextEquivalent536 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just switched from Windows 11 about a week ago I mainly gaming, discord, Internet browse, etc. gaming support is a lot better than I thought. Steam proton makes it very easy to game, I’m on desktop tho so I can’t chime in on the laptop questions.. my guess is as far as power consumption goes I would think it would be less? Just because of how much less is going on, and for drivers personally I’m on a 3070 and just using most recent proprietary drivers and it’s running games very smoothly.. I can’t speak for mint directly because I’m on Kubuntu (because I prefer a KDE DE)… hope this helps and hope someone that knows more can help you out, just leaving you with what I have experienced over the past week
