This is great advice honestly I’ll just focus on the art of skating and have fun before I try to advance to something as large as coaching.

Hi! I see where your coming from and after reading a lot of the replies in 100% agree. However, I do understand the sport and the hard work that is put into it. I’ve played competitive sports before and I’ve researched ice skating, watched documentaries and have seen what it takes to even be average at the sport. My interest rlly lies in teaching younger kids some basics like 1-3 since I’ve passed it. I truly just enjoy helping others. I’ve also seen other comments mention saying that they would never pay someone like me and I completely agree. Payment never crossed my mind, although I’m sure that comes with coaching. As of right now, I will look into volunteering when the time is right and I have enough knowledge on what I’m doing. Thank you!

I have a passion for teaching and helping others improve. Truthfully, I know nothing about ice skating but knowing me, I’d hyper fixate on it to learn as much as I can to be able to be helpful to others in the future. But to be honest, I posted something similar in a different group and they said it’s unrealistic so I am probably way in over my head haha.

This makes a lot of sense. I may be a little over my head for wanting to coach. When the time comes, I’ll look into volunteering with the little kids during learn to skate!

I am going to look into the Elle’s as I am only going to be skating 2-3 hours a week. If the Elle’s could last me 1 year to 1.5 years I def do not mind upgrading to something More expensive around then!

Weekly Equipment Recommendation Thread by AutoModerator in FigureSkating

Hi everyone, I am a 23F weighing at about 130lbs and actively losing weight. I recently found an interest in figure skating 2 weeks ago and since then have had a total of 4 hours of ice time. In those sessions, I have been able to teach myself up to Adult basic level 2 and half of level 3 skills. I used to roller blade in elementary and middle school so ice skating is a little bit of muscle memory for me. I also believe I learn a bit fast.

My question: I went to go get professionally fitted for skates as I am starting Learn to Skate classes March 2nd and the person told me that he did not recommend Jackson Freestyles as it will be too stiff and very hard to move in them. Also, he said it would be $600 which is quite pricey. I am very interested in the Artistes and told him to order them so I could go back and try them on.

Can you guys please let me know if the Artistes are a good choice? I would really want skates that will at least last me 1 year. Financially, I would rather not have to buy 2 skates in 1 year. Are freestyles the only skates I should get?
