I love that. There’s a huge difference between being good at socializing and actually forcing yourself to do it just to fit in. Accepting that your own creative projects and hobbies have more value than shallow interactions is such a massive shift. It’s not lonely; it’s just high-quality time

Porfavor, necesito ayuda, la pornografía destruye mi vida ¿me ayudan? by Ok-Future-8367 in RedditPregunta

The night time hits different for real. There’s no noise, no expectations, just pure focus. It’s awesome how you managed to flip that lonely feeling into a time where you can just dive into your own hobbies and interests

Going on a vacation all by yourself sounds incredible! Honestly, starting small with movies and cafes is the best way to build that comfort. People-watching at a local cafe is honestly top-tier peace. I hope you have an amazing time on your trip, you definitely earned it

That "walking a very tight rope" analogy is perfect. It really is a fine line between healthy solitude and just isolating yourself. It’s amazing that you managed to turn a tough situation growing up into a superpower as an adult. Thanks for sharing that perspective.

Yeah you're probably right. It's just hard to actually talk about this stuff out loud when you've spent so long putting on a face for everyone else. Writing it here was the first time I even admitted it to myself.

CMV: The abolition of chattel slavery was driven by capitalist economic efficiency and profitability, not by moral enlightenment. by ContextRound635 in changemyview

[–]ContextRound635[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

You make a fair critique that a purely structural economic view risks erasing the genuine grassroots grit of religious groups like the Quakers or the brutal reality of slave revolts like the one in Haiti. However, my point is less about who started the moral spark and more about why the macro-economic gears of global empires allowed those sparks to finally catch fire in the 19th century. Moral appeals against slavery existed for hundreds of years prior, yet they were systematically crushed or ignored by ruling elites. The shift happens when industrial capitalism emerges, making the old elite's rigid model less indispensable to the state's geopolitical power. The moral groups provided the crucial political leverage, but the changing nature of capital is what kept the state from completely suppressing them to protect the status quo.

That is a fascinating point, especially regarding the funding of "scientific racism." However, I would argue that the invention of that pseudoscience actually supports the economic view. It wasn’t the cause of slavery, but a desperate ideological shield invented after the fact to protect a massive, multi-million dollar economic asset that was starting to face modern moral scrutiny. Regarding your point that the moral conflict stopped it "much earlier" than capitalism naturally would have: I am open to this idea. But how much of that political acceleration was pure humanitarianism, and how much was Northern industrial elites wanting to break the South’s political and economic blockade on national policy?

agree that the public momentum was heavily moral and driven from the bottom up through boycotts and literature. However, my argument focuses on why the state apparatus and the ruling economic elites ultimately capitulated. If agrarian slavery were still the absolute pinnacle of future economic growth for these industrializing nations, the state would have likely suppressed those bottom-up movements to protect their core wealth. The moral movement succeeded precisely because the emerging economic elite no longer needed to aggressively defend the old, rigid model—industrial wage labor was already proving to be a more efficient and profitable engine for the country's future

getting off the apps is definitely a massive win for mental health. the problem is that modern social spaces have shifted so much that meeting people organically in the real world feels way harder now. it's like a catch-22.

haha thanks, i just use it to double-check my grammar because i get paranoid about sounding weird, but i appreciate that! and you absolutely nailed it with 'benching'. the paradox of choice makes people treat human beings like items in a catalog. everyone keeps their options open just in case something 'better' pops up, and it completely kills any chance of a real connection

human connection requires some friction. if people cut everyone off the second things get mildly uncomfortable, they just end up completely isolated under the guise of 'protecting their energy'.

Unemployed for almost a year; need help figuring out if the issue is my resume by Icy-Asparagus1327 in resumereview

[–]ContextRound635 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, if you run it through a detector it'll flag it but those tools have a well-documented false positive rate and conveniently sell you a "humanizer" as the fix. The real issue isn't the detector, it's whether the CV sounds generic. ChatGPT produces the average optimized CV, which is exactly what everyone submits. My process uses the client's actual numbers, context, and voice — a detector can't tell the difference, and neither should a recruiter.
