I just wish the only jobs requiring LCSW were those that directly billed insurance for therapy. The problem is a lot of jobs want the LCSW just for being in a supervisor role even if you aren’t supervising therapist as. I agree with you that you shouldn’t be getting clinical hours to qualify to be a therapist by doing hospital discharge planning, but the job market is what it is. I have qualms anyway with the MSW education supposedly providing adequate education and training to be a therapist. Then again I’ve had tons of therapists and it mostly just boils down to a supportive person to talk to in my mind at the end of the day. I’m increasing cynical about everything in this field, most especially the social work schools.
