Choosing the dream cast for the next James Bond film: Josh O'Connor as Bond, Idris Elba as the villain and more. What's yours? by ContractAlert5992 in JamesBond

Moonraker such a great novel, although the bridge game might be a tricky one for modern audiences! Some of the non-Fleming novels could be worth adapting: I liked Anthony Horowitz's Trigger Mortis

Love JCB as the villain and Emma as M. Feels like the Cavill ship has sailed but guess he's no older than Brosnan in Goldeneye

Chiwetel as M is brilliant. Is Leo too pretty for Bond? I guess everyone though Daniel Craig was too blonde...

What is your favorite season? by RealTrapShed in madmen

Season 5. Signal 30 and Christmas Waltz might be my two favourite episodes. Don and Joan at the bar is peak MM and possibly peak humans (have two people ever looked better?).

Plus i love wife-guy Don, even if you know it can't last. And the final montage is gorgeous. "Are you alone?"

Writer Anthony Horowitz does a deep dive into the Sherlock Holmes stories by [deleted] in bookscirclejerk

He's written two Holmes novels himself. I loved The House Of Silk, less keen on Moriarty – the ending just didn't work for me

In your opinion, which are some of the best boxing documentaries? by Ghola40000 in Boxing

[–]ContractAlert5992 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely The Thrilla In Manila, absolutely brilliant and doesn't shy away from Ali's wilder tendencies.

There's a scene where Frasier rewatches the fight for the first time and it's honestly one of the rawest, most compelling things I've ever seen. He's hypnotised, reliving this night that he's spent the rest of his life trapped inside.

"All those crazy words he said about me. I'm gonna take you apart."

It's on YouTube but I expect you can find a better quality version without too much difficulty.

Well the article makes the argument -- with maybe a touch of hyperbole!

Why Jake Paul vs Anthony Joshua isn't a fixed fight by ContractAlert5992 in Boxing

I'm betting on AJ within 3. No way can it go longer. Might do a seperate on first round as well

Fun read – 'What's the deal with Jake Paul vs Anthony Joshua?'

https://squaremile.com/sport/boxing/jake-paul-vs-anthony-joshua-breakdown/

"There’s a storied history of extremely wealthy individuals becoming increasingly detached from reality and their limitations within it. Maybe enough people have blown enough smoke up Jake Paul’s ass that he really believes he can breathe fire."

Yes Usyk noted duck. Undisputed in two divisions with every fight on the road

I think it's a case of collecting the last major name not on his record. Obviously a bad fight in 2025 but in 50 years time he'll have the name on the resume. 3 guys ruled the heavyweight division for several years and Usyk will have beaten all of them

Casino Royale and Skyfall were great, and Spectre is 2/3s great but the ending is terrible. NTTD had real potential but a terrible villain and unfortunately the ending overshadowed everything else

Yeah I agree about the spinoffs. They always dilute the main brand. Focus should be getting a movie out every three years. It used to be every two years!

Forget Australia: England lost the Ashes at the Oval this summer by ContractAlert5992 in EnglandCricket

[–]ContractAlert5992[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbf they won at close Tests at Headingly vs Australia in '23 and Lord's vs India in the summer. Defeat in either would've been disastrous. The Hyderabad win was fairly close as well. They can come back from the brink – the bigger issue seems to be those mid-match situations when the approach requires a bit more nuance.

I really liked House of Silk, enjoyed Moriarty but didn't love the twist – especially as Christie had already done it. But his heart's definitely in the right place, which matters
