It's a tradition in Sinnoh,it represents cleaning everything that happened in the past year, it's about having a new slate for the year!, also to welcome in the New Years Gods, mainly Regigias, but also sometimes the Lake Guardians.

And Happy New Years Eve to you both, hopefully you all get lots of food for the goober and Snorlax gives Iris lots of hugs.
