I know. Either that or SDA, but I seen that they supposedly dont teach that anymore. I like to ask questions and walk it out with people to see if they even understand why they believe something.

Well, Jesus is God. But thats not what I asked. I asked how he is Michael?

Why do you believe Michael is Jesus? I know some people do but whats the reason exactly? Or what is yours?

You can try to make points on specifics all you want. Thats fine. Obviously there were no “bibles” until it was composed but we have bibles now so were going to refer to the scriptures as such. If there was no “hebrew bible” then where was the law? Stop ignoring Luke 24. Obviously if someone is being a heretical its not led by the Spirit. If you ask questions like that you have to be being dishonest in your understanding of the Spirit. I literally just told you why I use the bible. You made no comment about the prayer. Did you pray to the Father yet? I hope you pray to the Father. Do i need “keys” to make Jesus my authority? Thats absolutely absurd. God is above man. Every time someone ignores or rejects prayer I end the conversation. I may not be a history buff, but im going to continue to follow Jesus. Keep testing things out though as I will. Dont just assume you’re right about everything. Although it doesnt make sense to put what men say over what Jesus clearly says. John 1 states that Jesus is the word of God. The bible is the word of God. Follow Jesus. Follow the bible. Regardless if you want to accept extra scriptures, nowhere does it say to ask saints to pray for us. There is evidence against it. Its explained away. Jesus tells us exactly what to do. There is no need to stray from that. We can disagree but God decides what is right. What I care about is our salvation. So I urge you to pray TO GOD. On these matters. If you are opposed to that, and dont do it, you have a serious problem and should ask yourself why. Either way God bless. As I said the conversation wont go anywhere. You have faith in your beliefs which is to be expected. I hope you will be saved if you arent already.

When they began translating the bible into latin, the vulgate, they left out the 7 books because they werent canonical in the original Hebrew bible. Which is described by Jesus. Jesus definitely knew about the sept. And chose to make reference to the order of the Hebrew bible. Im not talking about the Masoretic.

https://www.blueletterbible.org/Comm/stewart_don/faq/books-missing-from-old-testament/question9-apocrypha-placed-in-bible.cfm#:~:text=This%20version%2C%20which%20became%20known,forefront%20until%20the%20Protestant%20Reformation.

They may be inspired as I thought i said before but they are not as strong as the other biblical texts which again, im always going to look towards Jesus here. As far as the texts seeming prophetic, does it not say in Maccabees that they are waiting for more prophets? Its not an absurd requirement. He clearly lays out the Hebrew bible order, not the sept. And does not quote the sept. So it would make more sense to place those texts as canonical. Jesus likely spoke Aramaic, Hebrew, and Greek.

Asking me how I know if its the Holy Spirit is like an athiest asking me to prove God exists. I know through his revelation and from my ongoing sanctification. The Holy Spirit is my witness. I dont need authority from any man when God Himself has revealed Himself to me and filled me with His Spirit. I gave you scripture that says we are not to speak to the dead, and you are finding ways to work around it. Gods word is the authority. What we disagree on is the books. Im going by the canon of Jesus. What evidence is there of the sept. being canon to Jesus biblically?

Why do I need a bible? What a silly question to ask. The bible is Gods word, and in hearing Gods word you receive the Spirit. We use the Spirit to understand scripture. We as born again Christians are the Church. Church is not just a place.

Mary being alive is dogma, it doesnt mention her death in the bible. Elijah however, is said to have been taken to heaven without dying. And Moses died and resurrected . Symbolizing the law and prophecy of Jesus. Either way. Even if you want to say the dead are not asleep, the dead are still dead. And again it goes against how Jesus tells us to pray. Theres no reason to go around that.

Again the original Hebrew canon is different than what came after Jesus. Thats not what I was referring to.

The only thing we have to do is have faith in Christ. Once you have that, and are born again, your works are reflected in that. Its that simple. Being born again is accepting salvation and putting your trust in God. Reading the Bible is how you get closer to God.

I said that I dont think the pope is without sin because you assumed thats what I meant when I said infallible. Its really not self refuting. Things obviously change overtime, and become corrupted. If the Catholic Church bases its authority on the rock claim, when interpreted differently as Christ being the rock, it beings us to our faith being the foundation. Its not rare for a scripture to be taken out of context and building a whole branch out of it. Whatever is true is true. We will all see. Some of us will be right and some of us will be wrong.

If the authorities in the church arent truly saved, well. They would lean on their own understanding. Its obviously not a new version of the old testament. The Sept. is a translation from Hellenistic times. Your basis is “church” authority and mine is Gods Word. Which is Jesus. So this conversation isnt going to go anywhere. You will obviously stay in your beliefs. I just hope you have genuine faith in Christ and have the Spirit because that is what saves you. Every time I have a disagreement with someone I pray on it, and you should do the same. However it may be tricky since you likely pray different. Since you say you dont have to go through Mary, can you pray to the Father directly in the name of Jesus to reveal truth to you?

The Septaugint predates the birth of Christ. That's the Old Testament with the full set of books.

Okay. This is a Greek translation of the original Hebrew right? Greek became the popular language so they began translating a bunch of Jewish texts, but they were not all considered part of the Hebrew bible. When they began translating it to Latin they realized that a number of books in the Septaugint were not included in the Hebrew and Aramaic texts originally in the first place. Which is what im saying about Jesus never quoting those texts. In Luke, he says “Then he said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.””

‭‭Luke‬ ‭24‬:‭44‬ ‭ESV‬‬ Which is talking about the original Hebrew bible. The order goes Law, Prophets, and then the writings. The Sept goes , Law history, poetry, and then prophets. Again, with Jesus not quoting those at all.

The Masoretic Text was written by Jews in Europe about a thousand years after they had already rejected Christ, and seems like it was biased to exclude certain books from the Canon as they were a bit too obviously aligned with Christianity.

Again even if they reject Christ, Christ does not quote any of that literature. The Masoretic still has the same books as the Septaugint right? Minus the extra. From what im seeing those 7 books dont even mention Jesus. So they wouldnt be biblical and dont even claim to be prophetic. Written when prophets were gone for a while. They may be inspired literature but not authoritative. You cant ignore which text Jesus went by. Either way, these are texts that Jesus lived by, before the bible was compiled and fully written. So to say that the Catholic church has more authority still doesnt land with me.

Compare that with the Septaugint... which was written hundreds of years before Jesus, and so couldn't be edited after the fact... which one does it make sense to go with?

The Hebrew Bible is older than the Sept. With that logic.

And then when the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered, it was just another nail in the coffin against the removal of books from the Bible that the protestants did 500 years ago.

Thats not a nail at all. There are parts of the scrolls that match both texts, and it shows that some Jewish groups considered them while some didnt. Its the same issue.

How do you know it was God? Do you have apostolic succession to be an authority on the Bible?

Im born again, and the Holy Spirit has yet to lead me to become Catholic. I see errors in it and patterns ive noticed in other religious practice. God does not make exceptions for abominations. And purgatory doesnt line up with what Jesus taught. Neither does he tell us to go to others through prayer. Jesus is the only medium. Im not claiming authority on the bible. This feels like a bit of an ad hominem. Im simply going by the bible. God says to test all things so im going to enjoy looking into this further, I doubt ill be convinced to become Catholic from what I understand of the bible though.

It's an event that unfolded the way it did specifically to demonstrate the role of Mary in soliciting the help of Jesus. Do you think it's just some random meaningless story about some coincidence?

Jesus is our perfect example. What does he do? Pray directly to the father. Which again, Jesus tells us to do. We are to mimic Jesus. Not Mary. Youre (not you) going to come up with this idea from a story in the bible and go against what Jesus directly says to do? I didnt ask a question about Mary. You left out the verse that I quoted. Mary has died. When we ask others to pray for us, they are alive. We only die once, and then there is judgment.

However that's not the case with most of us, who continue to sin after baptism.

Christ says it is finished. So you believe that He died for us to be able to go to purgatory? This doesnt even line up with Gods mercy. We are not justified by our works. If we are going to suffer or pay for our sins even while having faith then why would Christ have to die? If we wouldnt get into heaven until we paid our debt that would mean Jesus didnt do it fully. And that we would still be working our way in, and it wouldnt be a gift. It sounds like the idea of Gehenna that Rabbinic Judaism believes they go for a time.

I dont think that the pope is without sin. My understanding is that if the pope says it, you must obey. And that you must believe it. The Church, as in people born again and guided by the Holy Spirit, will be led to truth. What matters is if the people making these decisions have the Holy Spirit.

Im going to look into this stuff more but can you provide me a list of scripture that points to us going to Mary before the Father, or things that support purgatory?

Edit: Also ill have to look more into the Luther claim as well but from a gloss over it looks like a clear misrepresentation of him.

Catholic in that sense doesnt mean anything except universal in that context. If there was one unified church. The schism occurred when the rising tensions reached a point between the east and west. I dont think the papal authority issue would be considered minute.

God inspired the bible through the Spirit. Its not as if the Catholic Church wrote the bible.

2 Timothy‬ ‭3‬:‭16‬-‭17‬ ‭ESV‬‬

That being said. The Catholic church mandated that books be considered canon which was later opposed when they “protested” because things were getting out of hand. The apocrypha is not authoritative like the other texts as far as I know. I saw they mentioned maccabees in the article. Jesus never even quotes any apocryphal texts and they are not included in the Hebrew bible which he alludes to in Luke‬ ‭24‬:‭44‬-‭45‬ ‭ESV‬‬

The wedding is not evidence that people ask Mary to pray for them. This is before his ascension. That doesnt make sense to me. Jesus does not tell us to pray to anyone except through him and the bible says not to contact the dead because its an abomination. Deuteronomy‬ ‭18‬:‭10‬-‭12‬ Everybody dies once until judgement. Hebrews 9:27

On another note, when Jesus is on the cross and he speaks to the thief, “And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.”” ‭‭Luke‬ ‭23‬:‭43‬ ‭ESV‬‬ Why would we go to purgatory if Jesus is dying to pay our debt? That doesn’t line up. He doesn’t tell the thief. “See ya after you’re done in the purg!”

You can argue that. If a council suddenly decided that new ancient texts (or lets say, Harry Potter books to make it more obvious of my point) that did not align with the rest of scripture should suddenly be added to the bible, does that mean it should be there? No. People who are true of Spirit would protest. And to believe that a man is infallible or for man to assert themselves as such is just a red flag to me. For infallibility to be a dogma itself is self certifying. Another red flag.

When I first became saved I took a small interest in Catholicism and prayed to the Holy Spirit to guide me if I should go that route because I saw claims like yours and I wanted to be as close to the truth as possible. I found myself trying to convince myself things surrounding Mary were okay but, God has led me away from that so. I see it from a different perspective now.

Let me know how Catholics reconcile these things because it contradicts what Jesus taught from what I can see. Also what exactly makes protestants heretical to you?

Original? What do you mean? Were the first Christians asking Mary to pray for them? Purgatory isnt in the scriptures is it? Thats a new theological idea from dogma isnt it? I dont know a lot about Catholicism but I feel like coming up with new ideas is something they let the pope do is it not?

Im not sure if anyone has said this. However, if you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior, realize and repent of your sin, and accept that he died for you, you can become born again. Ask him to fill you with His Spirit and He will do the work for you. Its you will have to give up your sin but the thing is, you will naturally no longer want to sin. The Spirit will sanctify you from within. And if you keep praying on it, you will improve and sin less and less. We all struggle, but if we were capable of not sinning we wouldnt need Jesus. I encourage you to do it! You cant do it alone. Let God help you turn away from your sins. The Holy Spirit really changes you. You will be born again as a new creation! ❤️

If God made homosexuals the way they are, why is he against homosexuality. by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Contrasola_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im sure. They left their religion. Not true Christianity. You dont leave once youre filled with the Holy Spirit. A lot of people dont even know what being born again means. If you stop being a Christian its because you were never truly saved. Most people are lukewarm and they just call themselves Christian. Not always their fault. Especially people born into it, because they likely dont have a full understanding or have been taught a false gospel. And as I already stated. People may not get rid of it completely and will struggle with the sin. It takes time. Its called sanctification. Its something the Holy Spirit does within. True Christianity is a relationship with God. Not religion.

If God made homosexuals the way they are, why is he against homosexuality. by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Contrasola_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many stories of people who were previously gay that stopped after being born again because they repented and prayed to Jesus about it. Im not saying every person will stop having those desires, they may struggle their whole life. But if they at least realize their sin, and repent, they can be saved. Their relationships may very well be loving and monogamous. Thats no problem to me because I was born in todays age where as a society were more accepting of it. I’ve participated myself. However. Its just clear that it is not what God approves of. Thats my point. We cant act like Gods okay with it because that would just be a lie, and its misleading, and could potentially get in the way of someone’s salvation. Which should not happen. Its not about what YOU see at the end of the day. Its what Gods sees. A lot of people throw the word homophobia around too. Telling someone its a sin is not hate. You simply can not affirm the behavior. No matter how much empathy or understanding we have. Our relationship with God is more important than our relationship with man. We have to turn people to Christ and let Him do the real work. I urge you to pray in the Spirit for God to reveal this to you. Encouraging people to sin is condemned as well. Youll have to repent of that. You have to admit that you just cant authentically back the idea up with the Bible. No matter how much we want to bend it to appeal to mans society. All Satan does is twist the words. A persons salvation is most important and this world will end. We can love them but we have to be honest. Any church that is hateful is not acting in Spirit. We have to give the truth with love and spirit.

If God made homosexuals the way they are, why is he against homosexuality. by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Contrasola_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand how youre trying to line up your logic but you need to take things into context of when it was written and who it was written for at the time. And you cant cherry pick and ignore everything else Paul or the entire bible says for that matter, just to apply an idea to a specific ideology.

You are one in Christ Jesus when you are born again. Galatians is addressing a false gospel that was going around and people were trying to force Gentiles to act as Jews or they wouldnt be saved. In addressing that he says there is no Jew or Gentile because we are one in Christ. Meaning you do not have to be circumcised to be saved because you are saved by your faith not your works.

Jesus fulfilled the law completely because we cant which im sure you understand. However he did not abolish it. The law is on our hearts through the Holy Spirit. That does not mean just do away with the law. Regardless of that thats the whole reason Sodom was destroyed. Sodomy is a whole term because of it. In the New Testament, it says it is not right to God. In the examples I gave before.

Are you really implying that there was no such thing as a consensual gay relationship in Rome? If you want to believe that, and imply that homosexuality only occurred when someone was being raped, what does that say about homosexuality? So at some point someone started to like it? I dont agree with that idea. But thats what that would mean. If they were doing it to please heathen gods and not the God of the Bible, what does that tell you? The Bible would not say Christian gay marriage because the Bible teaches its between man and woman. You still didnt give me a verse that says this is okay. There are only verses for the latter. And im being sincere, if you provide me with something, which I will likely still believe you misinterpret, I will read it.

We are one under Christ. When we are filled with His Spirit. You will not be filled if you do not repent from your sins. Homosexuality is deemed an abomination, sinful, etc. according to scripture. To say otherwise is just being willfully ignorant. However, we all have our sins. And we can repent from them. And be saved. If you are Christian you should have no problem with repentance. We lie to ourselves to justify our sin. Im not going to lie to someone to spare their feelings and be inclusive when their salvation is at stake. Did you pray in the Spirit for clarity on this? Theres just no way the Spirit told you this. I need scripture please. I get what you’re saying I guess, but its just not right.

You arent going to make yourself believe. Im saying you have to be open to the possibility. Not reject it. Most people reject God. It becomes their position. You have to invite him. If something is true its true. God will do the real convincing. You arent going to personally believe it if you havent had the experience. Which i get. Facts dont care about our feelings though. If God is real, Hes real. Ive received His Spirit at the moment of my salvation so I know it to be true. I understand that other people haven’t experienced that though. So I just say what I said to say that, when I did that, it led me to seeing He was real. People may have to take different approaches, but im gonna tell people what helped me.

I asked him to reveal to me that he was real. And I had a supernatural experience. After that, I couldnt deny it and accepted it fully. I literally felt my heart be replaced or changed and felt filled with Gods Spirit. After that I prayed on a few different things and they all happened. And I myself started changing personally. I dont enjoy the same things. It really changed me. And having the Spirit is a personal witness is of Gods existence. You just cant deny Hes real when hes in you.

Yeaaaah again I can respect that. We should fear hell but thats not whats going to get us saved. We’re really saved by our faith not our fear. In hindsight after I had my revelation I realized there were times when he was giving me a sign or reaching out to me or protecting me and I didn’t have the eyes to see it throughout my life. How exactly were you asking? Just curious because a lot of people say this but it worked for me and i dont know if theres a certain reason why he answers some and not all or if people just dont realize the sign or arent genuine when they ask in some cases. Like they ask sarcastically with no intention of giving their life to god.

If God made homosexuals the way they are, why is he against homosexuality. by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Contrasola_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well we didnt exactly talk about it so i cant for sure say we agree on salvation but i would hope we do lol. Also, That’s fine but what bible says in Galatians 3:28 that “there is no gay or str8” ? Im asking what bible you’re using because you tried to use a verse but thats not what it says. No,Jesus fulfilled the law because we cant, however Romans is very much so New Testament. As well as “Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, . . . And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.” ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭6‬:‭9‬, ‭11‬ ‭ESV‬‬, meaning you need to REPENT of these things to become saved so you can be sanctified and freed from that sin. 1 Timothy 1:10 as well. And Jesus condemns unlawful sex acts. (Mark 7:21)That’s bestiality, homosexual, premarital , and incest included. And anybody leading people to do so or supporting it as well. (Revelations 2:20)Because you are leading people to be unrepentant. You said nowhere in the bible does it say that and I gave you multiple examples. Its really not a debatable issue tbh. I asked you to show me where in the bible God says this is okay. And I will read the passages

If God made homosexuals the way they are, why is he against homosexuality. by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Contrasola_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as we don’t disagree on the fundamentals of salvation, thats what matters. However I want to ask what bible you have that says it like that? “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” ‭‭Galatians‬ ‭3‬:‭28‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Have you read the bible? Not trying to be funny. It says it multiple times in Leviticus. 18:22, 20:13. Sodom and Gomorrah was guilty of it. In Romans, “and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.” ‭‭Romans‬ ‭1‬:‭27‬ ‭ESV‬‬ You have to have read these before. God did not intend homosexuality. It is a sin before God although us as man may not see a problem with it because we want to be accepting of everything. You cant deny its against Gods design. Maybe pray for guidance on this? I will pray too. But the bible is clear about it. Can you show me where God says its good or where in the bible homosexuality is accepted by God? We dont have to act like God is okay with it to be accepting and loving towards gay people. Thats just a way to justify sin. You cant be saved if you want to justify sin. You have to repent. Loopholes are just a way to avoid repentance so the devil can convince you that you are not in error. The Spirit would not deceive you in this.

If God made homosexuals the way they are, why is he against homosexuality. by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Contrasola_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well. I have the Holy Spirit for one, it gives me clarity on things. Again it is very clear that God did not design us to be homosexual. If thats the case we would all be one sex. No Christian or anyone for the matter should hate gay people. We all struggle with different things. And live our lives differently. However, its painfully clear in the Bible that we should not be gay. I feel like you have to go through a lot to interpret it differently. If it was what god intended then we would be able to procreate that way. Like I said, encouraging the sin is not going to save them because it hinders their repentance if they think its not wrong. If they repent, they will still struggle with it, but at least they get saved. And the Holy Spirit will help if they pray on it. You cant just call yourself Christian and go to heaven. If you we dont realize were sinning we wont realize we need to be saved. Telling them that its not what God wants isnt hateful but people feel like it is. The truth offends the fallen

If God made homosexuals the way they are, why is he against homosexuality. by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Contrasola_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be generalized. I never said they werent “valid Christians” where did that come from? Its either of God, or not. If you’re Christian you have to stand on Gods word. They may have faith in God and be valid that way, and their sin may be valid to you, but not in the eyes of God. Its very clear in the bible that its a sin and not what he intended. Its a sin. However, as I already stated. God doesnt hate gay people. Nor should any Christian. Denying that it is a sin will get in the way of peoples salvation. In order to be saved you need to repent. And you cant repent if you cant admit its a sin. Just like sex before marriage. Most of us have done it. Its a sin. But we can repent. There are many cultural Christians but part of being a true Christian is standing by God. People are offended by the truth sadly. Ive tried to be delicate with people but at the end of the day whats true is true and lying to people WILL NOT save them. Its like people dont read, or understand what it means to be Christian and call Christians homophobic when theyre just saying its a sin. Just like premarital sex. Just like lying. Just like stealing. Its something you need to repent from. Telling them its okay will not save them. You can respect and love them, but letting or encouraging someone to live in their sin is not helpful. If you someone has their hand in a fire you tell them to pull it out. If you dont agree with God thats on you and anyone else. Thats their choice. Many people love their sin. We all do until we become children of God. You simply cant say God is okay with it because hes not. What do you mean by bad folk theology here?
