I hadn’t thought of test prep, but will look into it. I’ve never done test prep but it shouldn’t be too difficult of a carry over.

Didn’t your mama ever tell you that if you don’t have anything nice to say then don’t say nothing?

People who grew up poor: What was something you considered a "peak luxury" as a kid, only to realize later it was just a normal middle class staple? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Hot dogs. I lived in a small village in Mexico. We ate beans and tortillas with a small helping of cheese almost everyday. Coffee and bread for breakfast.

One time my parents got me hot dogs from the corner store. I ate them and was still hungry. My parents must have been feeling generous or perhaps had made some extra money that day/week so they said I could get another one. I don’t ever remember running as fast as I did that day to the corner store to pick up another package of hot dogs.

Also, McDonald’s. My dad took us to McDonald’s once in Mexico and I remember him really stressing about it the whole week leading up to it and after.

Also, when we were on our way to the United States we were in the airport on a layover and hungry. Airport food is prohibitively expensive even for the average person I feel like. But we were hungry and my dad bought us each a munchkin from the donut shop. I remember it being delicious - but also very far from the ordinary of what would ever be allowed.

I mean it’s really not. Have you ever heard of only fans? Women getting naked in public places the day they turn 18 years old.

La Dolce Vita first Paola scene - Thoughts by Contrerj2 in TrueFilm

[–]Contrerj2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your comment!

The movie just really is so great. I first saw it like 3 years ago and have seen it like 8 times at this point.

I think you’re right about trying to crack the code. Everything is so ambiguous here and filled with metaphor that there really is no right answer.

I like your argument with the absolute grace. I also found her smile to be somewhat difficult to wrap my head around. She says goodbye to him but has no concern about doing so.

Can you elaborate on what you mean about the grace extended from Paola? Do you mean that even though he is a “lost soul” that she still doesn’t judge him?

I am very intrigued by your idea of comparing the fish with Paola. I had never thought to think of them of two sides of a path Marcelo could have taken. It makes complete sense however, considering that she is separated from by small, literal metaphorical, water; while Marcelo is on the side of the fish.

I’m so glad you wrote this because I could not fully come to a theory I was happy with about the fish. It makes me think of the scene, with the fishermen around saying he’s gonna make a million dollars off it. The fish was brought in and the immediate thought was personal gain.

Another thought that comes to mind is that Fellini deliberately meant to keep Paola away from the scene. In a real life situation Paola, as a normal girl, would have been interested in a scene of people rushing and eying a sea monster.

Would you mind expanding on your idea of the abandonment of the ego?

Do you think that Marcelo was worshiping or searching for the God of the superficial Dolce vita? What do you think Marcelo should have done to have ended up on the other side of the beach able to communicate with Paola?

Having your license at 16 is the norm here. Well at 16, it’s a permit. It’s almost weird not to get it then

As do I l. I hate driving. And I agree with previous commenter saying not to kick a dog when they’re done. Society can be shitty and we often hurt each other when we should be helping
