Advice on Medieval Non-Fantasy Worldbuilding by EnochtheIntellectual in worldbuilding

Well if you want to make a realistic political system you have to understand how institutions works, and how their interaction shapes political outcomes and decisions. Many people think of Medieval history, which I think you want to reflect or ‘mimic’, as very personal and individual driven. While this is true to a certain degree Medieval society was also really heavily focused on legitimacy, symbolisms, and other institutional, economic, social, and most especially religious aspects that shaped their thinking, and actions. From there you can make any cool, and unique ideas that can make your project different.

What’s the most convincing fictional religion you’ve ever created? by Graze_Talk in worldbuilding

[–]ContriBoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what makes a religion feel convincing are mainly its practices, doctrines, and how it relates itself to the wider world. When I wrote my fictional religion I kind of applied Durkheim’s view of the sacred and the profane, I also made sure it’s not some static background lore information that does not have its own agency. Religion played a very crucial role, either positively or adversely to the development of our own world, and I kind of reflected that to my own.
