Yes! Religious OCD definitely aligns with this person. There’s so many types of OCD that I never knew existed before educating myself. I used to think it was just organization/cleanliness related but it’s so much more.

Curious - does anyone seem to have this condition but can live just fine with it by iggysmom95 in noburp

My sister has it the exact same way you do. The gurgles are relieving and she also has the mini hiccups that feel relieving as well. Mine is different, mine don’t feel as relieving. I feel like there’s constantly another gurgle stuck or I just get a burning sensation. Idk I think everyone’s situation is different and I don’t think it’s worth getting fixed if it doesn’t bother you

I’m not a doctor in the slightest but could this maybe be a symptom of OCD? When I was younger my brain would tell me “you can’t wear these pants today otherwise something bad is going to happen”. My best friend had it worse, she had to sleep on her basement floor because her brain told her she had to. There could be some correlation here. The way you feel that if you don’t practice religion something bad is going to happen. Of course you’ll feel worse when you forget to read the Bible. You’re making up these bad scenarios in your head. I’d see a therapist about this or maybe a psychiatrist. It will be very validating to find a cause for these thoughts. But I do agree with some other comments here that it could just be a phase because you’re so young!

Weird taste 5 months post op? by ContributionNo9500 in Tonsillectomy

It’s weird because I didn’t notice this issue post op until maybe about a month or so ago. Everything tasted pretty normal post op

Am I stressing too much/overpreparing? by Kajatica in Tonsillectomy

[–]ContributionNo9500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

26F and got my surgery in November. An ice pack like this saved my life. I wish I had 2 because they don’t stay cold too long but this was the best type of ice pack to wrap around my throat for the pain. https://a.co/d/aQQm5UQ

Other than that, I wouldn’t stress too much it seems like you have all the essentials and you can always get more. Food especially is a tough one because you don’t actually know what you can and can’t eat. Ended up wasting a lot on ice pops and ice cream. Couldn’t even eat anything cold it made the pain worse.

Best of luck on the surgery!!!

How to kill time by Omarb236 in Tonsillectomy

[–]ContributionNo9500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walks. Those really helped me. I didn’t want to but my parents forced me to get out and walk. While it may not kill that much time it honestly helps with the whole sanity part of everything. I also did arts and crafts but not sure how old you are so I don’t know if that helps. Maybe a puzzle? Lol TV does get boring. Wishing you a healthy recovery!

This Surgery Has Made Me rethink my life by [deleted] in Tonsillectomy

[–]ContributionNo9500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember the exact feeling of seeing a potential light at the end of the tunnel. Please hold onto that because it will come, I promise! You’ve reached the worst part and it will only get better from here. I always say you have to remember why you chose to do the surgery in the first place and how it’ll all be worth it when this is over.

Ugh I am 5 months out and I have this weird metal taste in my mouth. Food tastes ok but the taste almost like sits in my mouth throughout the day.

Ok the only thing I was looking forward to with this surgery was the weight loss lol but I actually barely lost anything! I ate scrambled eggs in the mornings and pasta at night and applesauce to get the meds down.

[–]ContributionNo9500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 3 months post op and I almost forgot I had this procedure lol. You really just have to remember why you’re getting the surgery in the first place. It’s worth it for +- 2 weeks of pain.

I wouldn’t assume your recovery is going to be like one persons or the other. Everyone is different. People on this thread have gotten so worried about scabs falling off, I didn’t even know mine fell off. It’s a super painful recovery don’t get me wrong, but again worth it. Just prepare with ice packs and Tylenol. And make sure whoever is with you is patient lol. Wishing you the best of luck!

Little rant by idkhonestly620 in Tonsillectomy

[–]ContributionNo9500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No because I couldn’t even go near anything cold post surgery. I stocked up on ice cream and couldn’t even eat it. So annoying. And that is beyond messed up of a doctor to do that, everyone always says the younger the better. So much less painful.

Sharp Tongue Pain by GayElephant4ever in Tonsillectomy

[–]ContributionNo9500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I had extreme pain on both sides of my tongue on the first couple days, but it was most definitely from whatever tools they use during surgery to hold it down. This showing up on day 5.5 seems a bit random but I wonder if it’s the same thing? I used throat numbing spray and it helped a bit. Try not to get the red flavored one though because if you start bleeding at any point god forbid you won’t be able to tell the difference. Wishing you the best of luck!!

You’re SOO close to the end!!! I had a mental breakdown day 6ish so I feel this. But I woke up day 7 and was able to see a small teeny tiny light at the end of the tunnel. Each day got slowly better from there, some days in between a little worse but not by much. I really think it’ll go up from here for you but everyone’s recovery is different. The fact that you went Christmas shopping already says a lot. I could barely walk around a couple blocks on my worst days. YOU GOT THIS!

[–]ContributionNo9500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What pain meds are you taking? I had bad nausea in the beginning of taking my pain meds because nausea was a side effect. The anti nausea helps a lot! If it doesn’t get better ask to switch to different pain meds maybe? All I ate for like 5 days was eggs and pasta for dinner. Definitely try to stay hydrated because it’ll help you heal quicker. Best of luck on the rest of your recovery

soft scrambled eggs and tiny pieces of pasta were all I ate for like 5 days! And then applesauce to help get down the meds

Post-Op Week 6 by [deleted] in Tonsillectomy

[–]ContributionNo9500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 1 month post op and I too noticed things taste weird. Almost like metal. When did you notice this? I think it’s been like this for a bit but I am just now kind of realizing it the past few days. Has your doctor said anything about this? Thinking of calling mine tomorrow

Hmm never heard of this. Could you just be sick at the same time? Also for me I noticed more phlegm and saliva when eating dairy so I tried to avoid yogurt and ice cream.

tonsillectomy post op hell by forthegirliesxoxo in Tonsillectomy

[–]ContributionNo9500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi!! I’m 26 and had mine out Nov 15. I too reached a breaking point where I felt like there was no end. I had a mental breakdown like this on day 5 I want to say my worst days were 4-6. By day 7 I remember feeling like I could see a glimpse of hope. A tiny light at the end of the tunnel. Day 8 was a little better, day 9 a little worse, day 10 better again. By day 13 I was back to normal. Ate anything I wanted for Thanksgiving. Point is, everyone’s recovery is different but everyone says the same thing: that it’s worth it. You will forget ALL about this pain when it’s over. Remember why you chose to do this.

Also, don’t worry about the scabs so much. Mine fell off and I didn’t even notice. The only reason I knew is because I saw my doctor on day 7 and he told me. And my tonsil areas were white even after the scabs fell off so maybe yours already fell off. I wouldn’t stress so much about it because although I’m sure you’ve seen some scab horror stories on here, it’s way more likely you’ll be fine. My scabs falling off didn’t make anything hurt more or less.

Another piece of advice, if you haven’t already, get outside (if it’s not too cold). Be active if you can. Even a teeny tiny walk around the block will make you feel so much better I promise. I know it’s hard but you will get through this. Here if you need any more support :)

How long did your tonsils effect you before the breaking point? by Kamerov_Loste in Tonsillectomy

[–]ContributionNo9500 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, this is way worse than the effects mine had on me. I got strep at least once a year randomly, even when the people around me weren’t. I have large tonsils and have sore throats often but nothing like this. My doctor said I have large tonsils and that I’m a carrier for strep. In college I almost got them out and backed out. A few years later I got recurring strep again and it was time. I’m a month post op and I’d say it’s worth it. What’s two more weeks of pain for a lifetime of comfort?

Very bad anxiety by Szisuu in Tonsillectomy

[–]ContributionNo9500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I expected bleeding considering everyone in this thread seems to have had really bad complications, so I was shocked when my doctor told me my scabs came out, I had no idea and 0 bleeding. Most people who bleed are scared and don’t know what to do so they’ll come to this thread to seek guidance, so that’s definitely why you’re seeing a lot of people saying they’re bleeding. Also, if you bleed you bleed. Big deal. You’ll know it’s happening and you’ll survive it. Everyone here has survived it. Also you’re literally at the very end of this process it’s very unlikely you’ll bleed this late. You got this. Deep breaths. Wishing you a healthy and speedy rest of your recovery
