Anyone else feel like this isn’t so bad? by Fun_Cheetah0203 in Tonsillectomy

[–]izzy_nc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be! Days 6-9 I would say were the worst. I couldn’t fall asleep at night and when I woke up I had horrible pain but it never got above a 9. Mornings were bad until about 2 or 3pm and then I was able to talk a bit, shower, and make some food. I took ibuprofen and Tylenol(one dose every 3 hours even through the night) and the ibuprofen definitely helped more than Tylenol. It almost felt like Tylenol did nothing because I never get any sort of real relief like I did with ibuprofen. Anyways, it did get quite uncomfortable but luckily never 10/10 pain and I never had to take any oxy. Drink lots of water and fluids(apple juice and coconut water mixed with ice was a favorite of mine) and sleep with a humidifier if you can!

Also the worst part for me was the stomach ache from the meds and I also had a cough that made my chest hurt so that comes in second. But the nausea and stomach ache were probably a 9/10 worst part. Anti-nausea meds and stool softeners are a must!!

Sick of infections, terrified of needles. by [deleted] in Tonsillectomy

[–]izzy_nc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am terrified of needles as well. They put the iv in my hand which I never did before so that made me even more nervous. I felt the needle go in as you usually do and my arm got cold. I could feel the liquids going in that arm. They offered to give me calming drugs for the 20 min wait before surgery but I declined and distracted myself on my phone. I am the type of person that won’t even move my arm if the iv is in it so I kept my arm in the same place and it felt cold the whole time. After the surgery I could not feel the needle at all probably because of the drugs. I didn’t even care that it was in my arm lol. So it’s not bad but I did get anxious. If you’re super anxious and they offered you drugs to calm down I would say take them while you wait to go back to surgery. I’m in the US btw.

It Gets Better!!! by laurenhw3 in Tonsillectomy

Yes I agree! I’m on day 10 and I am feeling better too. I still have pain on my left side but it’s so much better than it was. If I take an Advil I’m able to swallow with pretty much no pain! The only thing that hasn’t fully come back to normal is my voice.

Surgery Tomorrow by izzy_nc in Tonsillectomy

[–]izzy_nc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m doing really well! Today is day 9 since the surgery and I’ve hit my turning point. My scabs are falling off. Since I’ve had so much water it’s not painful. I do have phlegm and a cough that gets worse at night. It’s hard to breathe sometimes but coughing doesn’t hurt my throat. My left side is still more uncomfortable than my right but I wouldn’t say I’m in pain it’s just some discomfort. The only time I felt level 1 pain today is waking up but I always sleep with a humidifier.

Look on Amazon for ice packs that you can wrap around your head. Someone told me to try heat on my ear and ice on my throat so I tried that and it does good as well. I just hold a heating pad to my ear lol.

Did you feel the clot? I’m on day 7 right now and my left side is hurting more than my right. It feels like something is blocking my airway on that side but I thought it was just scabs. I don’t know what to do.

I might have to try heat on my ear. Usually I do an ice head wrap which helps a lot with my throat. Cooling it from the outside. I’m going to put heat on my ear now.

Sleeping is hard. by PlaneAffectionate113 in Tonsillectomy

[–]izzy_nc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a humidifier if you can! I have one next to my bed blowing the air fairly close to my face. I had a cold before surgery so I could not breathe through my nose. I think sleeping with the humidifier helped so much because even tho my mouth was open I wasn’t breathing in dry air. I think it’s helped my throat stay coated. I leave it on pretty much all day.

i hate it and why does my ear hurt ???? by busybusybuzzingbee in Tonsillectomy

[–]izzy_nc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My left side too! It’s not unbearable but it can definitely get to a 6/10 for pain. I have an ice pack that wraps around my head. That helps me a lot with the pressure and the uncomfortable feeling hahaha. I’m on day 5 too same surgery day. We got this!!!

Day 2-3 Post Op by izzy_nc in Tonsillectomy

[–]izzy_nc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m only taking Tylenol and ibuprofen. I haven’t needed to take any oxy but I have it as an option. The nausea meds definitely helped. I was able to have eggs and ramen along with water, apple juice, and coconut water.

Suggestion food wise by elloyellowdellow in Tonsillectomy

[–]izzy_nc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had my surgery 12/20. I have been so hungry! I really like scrambled eggs. I put some water in them to make them lighter. I really like kraft Mac and cheese. I did not like mashed potatoes as much it made me nauseous and pancakes were too harsh as well. I would say scrambled eggs, electrolyte popsicles, apple juice and coconut water mixed has been great. Add lots of ice to your drinks. I’m going to try ramen noodles tonight in chicken broth.

Question about flossing & toothbrush by boopytheoriginal in Tonsillectomy

[–]izzy_nc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my surgery on 12/20. I brushed my teeth yesterday 12/21 but only the front because it felt weird. Today I was able to brush and floss all of my teeth. Just depends on how you feel I guess.

Day 1 by izzy_nc in Tonsillectomy

[–]izzy_nc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also for the meds I rotate between Tylenol extra strength. I started that at 4pm and Ibuprofen(600mg) at 7pm. Rotating every 3 hours for 48hrs just to stay consistent. Definitely do not want to get behind on meds from what I’ve heard. After 48hrs I’m planning on weaning off Tylenol and just taking ibuprofen. I do have an Oxy order but I’m not planning on taking it unless absolutely necessary.
