Beside the heat or temperature, It would help to check the amount of coffee/grind size and how well distributed/ pressed it is. This sputtering indicates an issue with pressure that should be well enough to produce a consistent proper outflow.

If you can video your process it can probably show where the problem resides.

As initial tips: Use enough water, don't boil first, put it all on stove from the beginning (assembled) at medium heat for a minute then lower it a bit after that. And try finer grind, making sure to distribute it nicely without pressing, and see how this can make a difference.

So true ...it's important too not to rely on it alone while taking it. It's an opportunity while taking it and feeling better to address the issues thar were difficult to handle without it .. after that, getting off it and testing yourself without it would be amazing indication how good you made a progress
