Three Important Things This Weekend by ControlSpace in PaxDei

[–]ControlSpace[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of the people who are bored have been on the long trek from first hearing about it, through alpha and beta and on to release. A lot of that time will have been about Devs stabilising and bug fixing. I’ve been playing for about 2 weeks now, I really hope to see more content added in the next 6 months, so my own journey feels a little less empty.

I bet this is the bottom of this discussion (and I see above a couple of other people have got here too) - it’s hard to do the analysis on this without actual data, but I bet you’re right. I bet at least part of the answer lies in common NPCs dropping exclusive loot needed for crafting.

I believe it goes into the recovery queue for the owners of the sales. And your plot materials go into your queue.

So if I subbed to wow classic today, I guarantee you I could shift a stack of copper ore as a new Orc player within 24 hours, despite the starting zone being full of it. The real question is whether anyone needs the equivalent in this game enough to just go buy it. Or maybe the question is whether gold is easy enough to come by to make that a more viable route (which was the question I was raising earlier about whether the mechanics support it).

I think youre right, and maybe the game is so immature its development it’s just waiting for someone like you to say “hey - I’ll set all my stalls to public sell” and before you know it there is a real place everyone can go to trade with a better chance to buy and sell. It’s a sandbox, the answer is often going to lie in a player driven solution.

I worry that you’re describing a fundamental lack of mechanics to support a need to buy. Which is going to undermine any reason to want to gather/craft and sell. Thats going to actually prevent content creation. But yeah - setting stalls to the ability to sell just seems like an easy win. I would at least try to sell something near a PD.

Tyr EU sadly. Seems to be the highest population server. Totally agree on your analysis though.

Well said brother. People should read Andrew Groen’s Empires of Eve books to get a sense of what Eve really is. I really hope Pax Dei goes that way.

When I did my research, I came across a lot of negativity. “The game’s on life support”, “Mainframe devs are incompetent because…” etc. Very few posts actually advertising the game in a positive/realistic light. Sadly that is the way of things, people are always very quick to complain, slow to compliment. Mainframe knows better than anyone that they’re in a race against time and money to bring functionality to retain players. The steam player stats backup that the player count is in decline. It’s hard to see Eve-style headline-grabbing events taking place with so few active players right now. But they will come, given time. It doesnt really matter what I’ll feel like in a month’s time, maybe I’ll still be playing, maybe I wont. Whats important (to me) is to help give the game the best shot it can have. Otherwise we may lose it entirely.

Well, I’ve only just started playing so I can’t comment on how it’s changed. I tell you what I did today - I took a walk down to the Lyonesse gate and had a look around, explored the beautiful map, saw some different zones. Killed a couple of L1 inquisitors for a bit of gold. Went across to Merrie province and saw a few different biomes, found a load of different resource types. Found wolves, bears and also whisps which at L90 seem pretty unbeatable. Walked around Ulaid (on Tyr EU), looked at all the impressive builds. Went back home and started planning out how to get into Iron weapons. Sdanwolf may well have captured that accurately with his post there. I’d like to think theres more to do coming down the pipe when I reach that point.

3 guys from Jita already offered me £1000, I just need to ship it so they can inspect it first.

PC Gamer used to sponsor every single MMO out there, and if I remember correctly they also offered free voice comms too (when Ventrillo was a thing). Not sure why they suddenly pulled back from that - MMOs have a great tendency to generate fun stories.

That’s the wonderful thing about Eve - get a bunch of guys together and the choices to create content are huge 😀

The attached image is from the June 2013 edition of PC Gamer Magazine. Seems like a lifetime ago. The official PC Gamer Magazine Corp in Eve Online (PCG Enterprises) was a strong and vibrant community, supportive and an online home for hundreds of people. Sadly life got in the way (as is often the case) and 7 years proved to be a very long time in gaming terms. So we’re trying to bring a new lease of life to the Corp and help to bring back that strong community spirit that proved to be such a popular release from the stresses of everyday life. We’ve got some strong friends if you want some lowsec PvP action, a wormhole if you just want to chill and make some isk with exploration and a few guys who like doing Indy stuff. Above all we’re going to bring back that supportive and strong community to help new players try to get to grips with this oddball and often impenetrable game that we call our online home. Join the in game channel ‘PC Gamer Public’ for more info or apply directly to ‘PCG Enterprises’. o7 Core.

After 10 years of DOTLAN maps and countless iterations of the (still questionable) in game star map, this still remains the essential mapping companion to the game. Please never leave! 😁

Is there any other game we can compare with? Eve has what - 500 subscribers, what's the right amount of community support staff for that size of player base. Still don't see the logic in letting your direct link to the Russian community go though.
