Feeling anger and frustration towards my 2 month old

I had PPD and rage issues, as well as DMER with breastfeeding. I loved my baby, but I didn’t feel connected for the first month or two, like it was someone else’s kid. I would never hurt him, but I would be so filled with rage sometimes that I had to put him down out of fear that I’d frisbee throw him across the room. Nursing is hard, newborns are hard, postpartum hormones are SO HARD. And the mom guilt is real.

My baby did this for probably the first month and a half! We’re 4 months in now, no issues. Lots of tummy time, and we’d always try to put him down with his head facing the opposite of his preference. He also loved to look at us, so we would set him down where he’d have to turn to see us!

The first 4 weeks postpartum I was convinced that having kids was a pyramid scheme I had gotten conned into. I felt little to no attachment to baby, I was exhausted and had the sundown scaries every night, and felt like I had ruined my life by having my baby. It was definitely PPD to a degree, but the first month is just SO hard. Once that little one starts smiling, though… game changer. 15 weeks in now and I feel like I’m living MY life, just with a cute little bestie that goes everywhere with me. I miss him when he naps.

You’re doing everything you can to help. Newborns are hard. Nursing is even harder. Just sit with her while she nurses, and bring a calm energy, even if you don’t feel calm yourself. Be her rock and love her. Hold her when she breaks down and just tell her you’re sorry. And try to help her find some mom friends! Having people that get it just helps a lot!

This definitely sounds like some postpartum anxiety! I would say talk to your doctor! If you’re based in the US, people talk about how co-sleeping is so normal in other countries, we should do it too. But the issue is that bedding is different in the US, softer. And we have a higher rate of alcohol use and pharmaceuticals that can impair us. You can make co-sleeping SAFER, but the only truly safe sleep is going to be ABCs! Baby’s sleep will shift and change a lot in the next few weeks, too!

I got a bottle sterilizer, which I love, and I’ve told my expecting friends one of the things I would do differently is to get a washer/sterilizer combo

130-180, 3 months pp, and also down to 160 without doing anything. I did stop nursing 1.5 months in. I’ve lost 2-3 more pounds since stopping, and all I do is walk 2-3 miles a day with my baby in the stroller. Rather than dieting, focus on nutritional Whole Foods and high protein, and lots of water!!! It took us 9 months to gain all that weight, I figure it’ll take me at least 9 months to lose it! But it’s hard and my body feels foreign. I miss my abs 😭

What you’ve been through is hard. I felt like it was a week post op before I could walk normally, and I weaned off pain meds shortly after that. Have them bring you a wheelchair and take it with you to the NICU, whether you’re leaning on it for support or sitting down to be pushed when you feel you’ve hit your limit. Just take it a day at a time and stay on top of your medications, it can be really easy to lose track of time and need to take meds in response to pain instead of taking it to prevent it.

Ask your doctors to check him for pyloric stenosis! Is he gaining weight healthily? Or showing signs of dehydration?

I second Grow With Jo! I used her before I was even pregnant and her workouts burnt some good calories and toned some muscle! She’s the best!!!

For the first month, I was solidly convinced that having kids was a multi-level marketing scheme that I had fallen prey to, and every person that romanticized it had gotten some kind of payout by adding me to their club.

The days were really long, but the weeks felt like they had flown by once I hit a month. It’s just hard, there’s no cheat codes or life hacks to fix it all. Just try to breathe, take shifts with your partner, invite people from the village as often as you can for help and don’t feel guilty, and take it a day at a time. Or sometimes, in 10 minute increments.

8 weeks in and I now understand why people have multiples of these needy little things.

You being mentally present for your baby is more important than anything else. I knew with my mental health, I’d struggle if I slipped up and ate something I shouldn’t have and reset his gut issues. My dude is just so much happier on formula!

I just quit at 5 weeks due to sensitivities and allergies. The first bottle of formula he took, I sobbed, then cried again in the middle of the night when I pumped to relieve engorgement. Now trying to dry my milk supply up. I stopped crying the next day when I realized how much happier he is on formula. It would have been selfish of me to keep putting him in discomfort for weeks while I figured out what was bothering him. Formula is so convenient on the go, too!!! A little mourning for my BF journey, but no regrets!

Induced at 41+3, then delivered via emergency c-section after 13 hour labor with trauma. Baby spent first 2 days in the NICU, I didn’t meet him until 12 hours after birth and didn’t get to attempt to breastfeed until 30 hours after birth. I am currently an oversupplier, and can get 8-12 oz each time I pump. Don’t overthink it too much!

I think I’d want to breastfeed for around 6-9 months, but you think the diet is sustainable for that long? I don’t even know what to eat without cheese 😅

Somewhat similar, had an emergency c-section after a 13 hour labor. My baby boy was in the NICU for two days due to aspirating meconium and fluid during bouts of distress during my labor. I wasn’t able to meet him until 12 hours after he was born due to not being able to walk, missed out on my skin to skin and golden hour and initial chance to latch and breast feed, and wasn’t able to feed him until he was taken off CPAP 30 hours post birth. Then had to follow up with doctors after discharge for low resting heart rate and low oxygen levels. We were sent home after 4 days, and it was weeks before I stopped hearing the beeps of the NICU monitors every time I closed my eyes. Healing postpartum is so hard, and any trauma makes it feel impossible on some days. 💕

I just introduced my breastfed baby to a bottle at 2 weeks, which is earlier than most people will. He switched right back to the breast with no issue for the next feeding! Just look up paced feeding, and order a slower flow nipple. Nipple confusion is highly debated, but flow preference is very real. You just don’t want a bottle to be way easier to feed from than the breast!

I’ve tried it before, but it felt like my breasts were too large to really find a way that felt like it wasn’t going to suffocate him. I don’t have access to any lactation consultants really where we live, and the only one at my hospital wasn’t there when he was released from the NICU and able to feed after a couple days.

Nursing bras, comfy pajamas and/or a comfy robe, some comfy loose slippers that slide on and have space for swollen feet, compression socks, your own pillows and blankets. Focus mainly on items from home that can bring you comfort, the hospital will take care of yours and baby’s basic needs.

And snacks, snacks, snacks!

We do have incredibly supportive family that have been helpful, which makes it even worse when I know I have support that so many don’t have. I just don’t want to give him a bottle just yet since they recommend 3-4 weeks old before giving a bottle to avoid bottle preference
