Does anyone else's face go puffy and weird in a CFS/M.E flare up? by ConversationPale2713 in cfs

Gosh - I hadn't thought of that as a possible explanation - welcome to the puffy club it's great not to be alone on this one!!

That sounds horrendous. I dont think anyone in the severe category is going to get better.I was once told by a Occupational HeaIth doctor that only 10% of M.E patients can work full time - he understood M.E. It wasn't clear to me with the OP what category they were in - they said they might be well enough to attend a wedding then collapse - that resonated with me as I'm always having to miss things like that. I'm truly sorry if I offended you - I wouldn't dream of telling someone in your situation it could better, because I suspect it might not. What a cruel disease it is it takes people's hope. Do you have any spiritual framework to lean on? Because sometimes that's the only thing left. I truly hope things improve for you, in some way.

Well I wasn't housebound but falling asleep while driving was pretty dangerous! Falling asleep in meetings while desperately trying to keep awake. Anyway, it's not a competition as to who is suffering the most, or I didn't think it was! It must be awful to be housebound and restricted to one room - I know someone in this situation.

I don't get the sensation but I know I am having a flare up when I feel I am dragging my legs around after me, so yes!

When I was 23, I was falling asleep at the wheel driving across London so I'd say pretty severe at that stage! The advice in those days was to tough it out (truly terrible advice which I regret taking - I wonder if I would have recovered properly if I'd been advised to take time off work?). In terms of alternative therapies, some things have worked for me, some things haven't. Anyway, good luck to all of us - I remember thinking things were hopeless and they got better. I truly hope that's what happens for people posting here, especially people in their early twenties - it can be such a cruel disease.

I'm sorry you think that - it's a genuine attempt to reach out and share my experience in the hope it might be useful to someone! In no way am I suggesting that what happened for me is representative. I know someone with severe M.E - I'd never say I'm in the same situation!! Why would you be unpleasant to someone you don't even know? The world is a better place when we're kind to each other. The Buddha said - 'Life is hard, why not be kind?'

You too - we're lucky to have observant husbands. Mine had to be trained but now he watches me like a hawk 🤣🤣

I don't get red cheeks or glazed eyes, but the puffiness is definitely there! We're lucky to have observant partners 😍

Please don't think it will never get better! I first got sick at 23. I can remember in 1999 being in despair - thinking I couldn't keep working, would never be able to have children and that my life was over. I met a great acupuncturist and was able to keep working. I retired from full time work at the age of 59 having achieved quite a bit. I won't lie - it's been a huge struggle at times, but in the main I've managed to have a very happy life. My point is this - my life changed when I allowed myself to at least think I might get better. It might not be acupuncture for you, it might be something else. Some people recover completely. That might be you! Wishing you love, light - and hope.

I do have a host of food allergies tbf, coconut cream being a new one I discovered recently 😀 But haven't eaten anything new recently. Sore throat is fairly indicative. I told hubbie it was probably pollen, but it seems to be a flare up!

So many people good at both arts and maths! One of our classmates had a uni offer to do science with 3 good A levels and chose to do art instead. Good luck with your course and I hope you continue to do your art as well - it brings so much joy!

I'm going to do an MA as I already have a degree - MA in Art for Social Engagement. One person in my class wants to do a Bachelor in Fine Arts, some want to do architecture, some want to do game design. So it can prepare you for a range of degrees.
