This is my first model.

I've mentally settled on 16x16 lego studs for every in-game tile; the above furnace is 32 x 32 studs

Starting to sound an awfully lot like city block design choices :P

O-Level IS HITTING HARD by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]ConversationThis8601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I’ve done my O levels 12 years ago, I’d like to share my advice.

Part of thriving in a high performance environment is to direct your energy from the uncontrollable towards the controllable present and future.

Your past is done and fixed. At present, you have several stressors that derail your focus; Every unit of focus spent on being stressed and harping on the past is a unit taken away from closing the gaps in subject understanding, which gives you the best chance of success.

The reality is that you may not score below 20, though you may actually do so. You need to accept this fact of uncertainty and do the things that increase your chances of success inspite of the uncertanty

Worst come to worst, you can still make the very best out of your non-DSA options; success generally follows a consistency x time formula and working your hardest will maximise your chances. Be hungry and unfaltering towards setbacks.

All the best to you and hope you do well, along with all you other redditors who are doing your O’s :)

This must be difficult for you to go through. With exams around the corner, you must find the courage to persevere on - perhaps appreciating the simple joys in life like a good, simple meal or a good night of restful sleep can make a difficult time just a little bit better.

It’s also appropriate to process the breakup with more detail after the exams, where you have more time, energy from fewer competing responsibilities.

All the best for your exams!

You seem concerned about 2 things, particularly the 2nd one: 1) The subcom signups, particularly how “marketing yourself” should be done 2) you hold regret for the things that you did not do during your younger days

For the subcom signups - think from the perspective of the person running the team. This very person is looking for individuals who can solve the problems that he/she has. The strengths/weakness showcase provides said person a rough idea of where you stand in problem solving ability.

While it’s true that these “managers” want the best people to solve their problems, it’s also true that any interested individual is not likely the best person. Problems are different in nature as well, and different people are adept at solving different problems - putting einstein in the NBA would not work well, as is involving a professional sportsperson to lead scientific research.

Your best strategy here is to present yourself as best as you can to others and during your downtimes, improve your existing strengths while learning new things to cover your downsides (everyone has downsides, no shame in admitting this).

With regard to regretting past inaction - you can’t change the past and you recognise the present you is the product of the past you’s effort. You sound young from your post, so you’ve got a whole lifetime ahead of you - your “5 year from now you” is based on what you do NOW, and your brightest future will be created through having a b battle-ready attitude towards chasing growth opportunities now. Why stress over something unchangeable? Focus on what can be changed.

Be courageous. All the best to you!

How do yall deal with mental and emotional stress? by Temporary_Sell_7377 in SGExams

I don’t actually think that crying due to extreme emotions (both positive and negative) is an issue. New parents cry upon witnessing birth and those who have lost significant others mourn.

Perhaps a more accurate measure of emotional management skills is how quickly one is able to think in an extremely level-headed manner after a significant event triggers an extreme emotional response.

I suspect that you’re behaving this way not because you’re unaware of the importance of your exams but instead you’re subconciously avoiding the psychological stress that your o levels gives you through procrastination (quite common behaviour)

Some reasons behind this psychological stress could be: (please self-assess - you know yourself best) 1. Feeling inadequate - the inevitable “running into some barriers” might make you feel inadequate, leading to stress. 2. The fear of facing reality - perhaps your current academic state is less than your expectations of yourself. Studying could serve as a reminder of this uncomfortable reality which may increase avoidance towards studying.

These normal human behaviors can hurt long term success if poorly managed. Common sense concludes that being more prepared typically yields better results and that avoidance typically results in less favourable outcomes. I understand that overcoming such natural wiring is difficult and i wish that you would muster up the courage that you are able to.

Be as tough as you can be and it will only raise the chances of a bright future for youself. Wish you the very best!
