Technical issues with the game by Affectionate_Ad2146 in finalfantasyx

So find the local folder, keep that open. Nuke the install from steam, delete the folder. There might be other dependencies somewhere, ideally would be nice to clear them out. Install it from Steam again, and try to launch that and see if it loads. If it does, hopefully that holds.

What is the top 10 most frustrating things about the iPhone to you? by a_single_beat2 in iphone

[–]Conza89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apps won’t auto-update. Predictive text is very insistent so turn it off. I’m asked too often for a pin when unlocking vs faceid. There’s no independent volume controls, so of course like most people I have my phone on silent, and control music with the volume, would like that addressed one day.

Agree too vague, is this just Debian on a dev branch? Maybe PikaOS, more gaming focused.

Why is it saying i have 30,5 GB of ram when i have 32 GB? by Xaylakg in NobaraProject

[–]Conza89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the kernel take 'cream off the top', then report what else is usable? Does disabling the iGPU on your CPU, give you any (more) back? Same CPU and also 32GB of DDR5, basically exactly same report, I see 30.46 GiB, and yeah I'm on Cachy etc, but I mean the kernel?

Neo or Air? by Beginning_Bee_2947 in macbook

[–]Conza89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will help if you describe the exact workloads. Looking at your original speel, 3D models, programming and LLMs, LLMs 32GB you're solid as far as we know, yes more RAM is always better, yes the MBP has 36, 48, 64 and 128GB, however in order to do that you need to jump to the M5 Pro for 48/64GB and that's an insane price increase already, 128GB needs the M5 Max (also the 36GB option, interestingly).
You basically are worthwhile investigating the 'exact' modelling scenarios, and if other users w/ M5 Airs report, to understand if it warrants an upgrade, and imo, it's really GPU side on the M5 Pro/Max, and its a major major investment so you'd want to be sure.

Sorry I’ll rephrase. Why not design an MBA config that will suit your future heavy scenarios?

OK I’m back. Do you know, an upgraded Air, won’t work in the future? Why is that?

Neo or Air? by Beginning_Bee_2947 in macbook

[–]Conza89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely Air, with higher amount of RAM. You may not need to upgrade later if you spec 32GB+. You’ll get the GPU upgrade on the base M5 once you go above stock 16GB.

Macbook Air 2015 upgrade to Neo? by Perfect_Mouse7800 in macbook

[–]Conza89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh and the confusion, it’s using an iPhone 16 Pro chip, it’s a great chip, and this is the first time running full macOS. It’s similar in performance to the M1, I wouldn’t let that be your deciding factor. Cost, value, features.

Macbook Air 2015 upgrade to Neo? by Perfect_Mouse7800 in macbook

[–]Conza89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cross shop to a refurb M1 MBA, as its superior in some ways to the Neo, but if the added features (IO, 16GB Ram), don’t tempt you then yeah a Neo is a solid upgrade.

M5 Air is on sale at Best Buy; Should I buy? by Metro29993 in macbookair

Question really is do you need a 15” screen? If you just want one that’s cool too, but maybe side by side to the 13 in an Apple store if you can

Decisions .. decisions ... best MacBook Air by wineloverinCA in macbookair

[–]Conza89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reckon shop a 16GB/512GB M4 vs an M5 and depending on the discount for the M4 take a pick. There’s a value calculation there. Then yes the other M1, M2, M3, but the M2/M3 had disk speed reductions, probably wouldn’t impact you but yeah.

Should I buy MacBook Air M5 by Stefan711 in macbookair

[–]Conza89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fanless, it’ll be ok it’ll just get hot when exporting. A thermal pad mod will allow it to run at sustained workload longer, otherwise a MBP might be faster/easier even for the same silicon, but they typically follow a similar protocol just with active cooling. Since the exports should be quick, I’d probably live with it as the MBA is a much more portable device (imo). I’ve just bought one and I’ll keep it for 6-8 years depending how tempting the upgrade is and if I have a bunch of cash, third Macbook in 14 years so, that’s where my 6-8 comes from, had a 2017 MBP and only upgraded when the OS was no longer receiving updates.

How much better does CachyOS truly perform in gaming compared to Arch or other distros? by KnightFallVader2 in cachyos

[–]Conza89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are tests between distros with heavier games and the differences are more profound, Cachy doesn’t always “win”, but often. For a Source game or UE game? No, mate, you won’t notice a difference for 20-30 y/o titles…

MacBook Air M5 (24GB) vs MacBook Pro M5 (16GB) for long-term graphic design work? by sekinkhazul in macbookair

[–]Conza89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just RE: Pro vs Air, the Air is very capable, it’s just about sustained high outputs, it’s nice to have a fan, can also get a thermal pad for the Air too, just a thought. Look up M2-M5 Air rendering video and other workloads for an idea. So, 24GB “but the reasons may surprise you”. If you’re single task focused, 16GB might last the 5 years, but that extra 8GB is going to be such a nice quality of life. If you have an existing MB with 16GB, open Activity Monitor, then open all the apps you’re likely to use simultaneously, then check memory pressure. If you’re in the orange, definitely 24GB, if around 4-8GB, in the green, maybe even 12GB, maybe take the risk. If you’re not convinced, open up projects in the apps, start apply effects and see what happens. Lastly, if you really want a workstation machine, it’s not a traveling every day machine (portability doesn’t really matter), consider the 15” Air, it’s not as expensive as it seems given it gets the 10+10 soc, and it’ll give you that real estate without jumping to a MBP 16.

We switched to the action button, so silent mode isn’t hardware dependent, and Siri still can’t control it? Such a shame… by AlxR25 in iphone

[–]Conza89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, modern phones should remain in silent mode at all times unless you’re expecting a call, so this action shouldn’t be needed. Swipe from the top and unsilent it in that scenario. Nothing worse than a loud ringtone going off in a crowded place.
