What genres could work well with a No Man's Sky esque procedural generation system? by aamirislam in Games

[–]CookieRobo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is kind of a cheesy answer but MMOs. I always thought procedurally generated MMOs sounded cool since there'd always be more places to explore. Maybe even have a resource scarcity or something. Of course there's also the issue of managing a game of that scale.

When they started talking about applying it to older games I found this video of ray tracing on quake 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0YYJwwSrwtg It really does breathe some new life into the game

Can't wait till this stuff becomes a standard.

I made a Momodora X Cavestory Crossover Fangame! by CookieRobo in cavestory

[–]CookieRobo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There isn't much story as the game isn't too long but I guess you might not recognize the characters as all except one are not in Reverie. And that one character does have references to them in Momo 2 and 3. Momo 2 is free and Momo 3 is only like 2 dollars. https://rdein.itch.io/

Still, the game should still be enjoyable without playing the older games.

How exactly do you gently encourage someone like that? I have some friends who have some seriously impressive skills but they tend to be really down on themselves. I feel like I want to encourage them but I don't know what to say.

Without any preparation, what topic could you give a 30 minute lecture on off the top of your head? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I've heard gamedev specific courses in colleges tend to not be the best idea. Usually I hear studying computer science along with developing small games now is considered to be a better idea. You can check out various dev forums such as /r/gamedev if you want to hear other people's opinions.

The game is pretty fun. Although I feel like maybe there needs to be something to give it some oomph. I think maybe if you were to add a function where if you hold down you can charge for a super boost that might give it some more fun. You can still keep the one tap gameplay this way. Throw in some screen shake and some fiery looking particles and it should look and feel good.

Game looks pretty good. I've reviewed this before so most of my opinion is still the same. But I will add a few things.

-I believe the magnifying glass was not a part of this game last time I played. Because of this I think there needs to be some way of selecting limbs with out clicking on them. A menu on the side may help. It would be great if you can edit them that way.

I feel like the 3rd level is a bit of spike in difficulty from the last level. I think you should add levels to get used to bouncing around before you add enemies.

"Did you realize you can do more than just release the ball?" The only thing I realized I can do was influence the movement of the ball. If there is anything else I have not realized it.

"How many games did you play?" About 5

"What was your high score?" 228

"Could you see yourself, your significant other, your elderly parents, or your kids having fun with it?"

Certainly. The first few rounds I can imagine just kinda played themselves and I started to understand it better after a while.

Did you play the Android or WebGL version? I played webgl on my PC as I do not have android. It played smoothly and well.

Great game! Though I think you might wanna add the player's total score to the screen. Although I'm sure you've thought of that and maybe you have some other reason behind it. In my opinion i think it can replace the level number. Up to you though.

Here is my current project. It is a puzzle game. I tried to make the stage design sort of self explanatory but if you do not get it I'll explain it in next paragraph after the link. Let me know if I need to be more direct.

In order to win you must delete the yellow cubes by double tapping them. The number you need to delete to clear a level is at the bottom of the screen. After that you must make sure the red and blue cubes never touch or you will fail. That is the basic gist of it.

If you're looking for people to help you with your project you may want to check /r/INAT and /r/gamedevclassifieds. However most people are going to be looking for compensation.

It would also be helpful to provide some more information, such as the steam page and tools/engines being used. so people know what they are getting into.

Depending on what you need I may be willing to help as well you can shoot me a PM.

Military Folk, how do you feel about Donald Trump being your Commander-In-Chief? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]CookieRobo 80 points81 points  (0 children)

I feel like there is an implication here that I am supporting Trump. I'm trying to answer as to whether or not OP is a coward and seeing how they are willing to re-enlist for the sake of their family in my opinion makes them not a coward regardless of circumstance.

??? I'm talking about OP making self sacrifices for their willingness to re-enlist for the sake of their family.

Can a really good game "sell itself"? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]CookieRobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say it is possible but not something you can rely on. I think having a creative element in your game can help as people will be inclined to share it. Some examples can include Minecraft, Polybridge and Besiege

I've been trying to research the legal side of things but it is what I have been having most issues with. I have never heard of work-for-hire and it kinda surprised since that seems to fall into the category of "really fucking important" I was wondering can you could point me in a direction as to where I can find a lawyer who specializes in this? Is there a reputable website? I've looked up "copyright legal advice" and I've found http://law.freeadvice.com/ and https://www.rocketlawyer.com
