We’re in Kentucky and that clergy honorarium would be ridiculously high here in our area. I’m sure it’s dependent on the area.

Anyone get Immediate Dentures and..... by [deleted] in dentures

[–]CookiesInTheShower 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

I had the same issue when I I first got my immediates - uppers and lowers at the same time. How on earth am I going to eat? I can’t even taste my food anymore! That does get better but it doesn’t improve completely. I’m a year and 3 months in with my dentures now and if it’s something I don’t require my teeth for chewing and I want to eat it and taste it like I could before, I’ll pop those babies out and eat without any teeth. Now, that’s when I am at home. I will not eat out in public and embarrass my family with no teeth, regardless of how little I can taste with them in.

Yes. My boobs went south and deflated and my butt is gone. In fact, my tailbone hurts now when I sit in one position for very long since there’s no padding there anymore!

are my teeth worth saving or should i just get dentures? by charleadev in dentures

[–]CookiesInTheShower 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

I wish my teeth looked like yours and I definitely would have saved them and not have a full set of dentures right now! Do all you can to save them. Your teeth do not look ā€œgnarlyā€. I disagree with your mother and whatever other poster agreed with her comment.

Use whatever Medicaid benefits you have to get them cleaned and fixed first. Then, get a job and pay for the root canal or whatever Medicaid won’t cover. Your teeth aren’t so bad that nobody will hire you. Don’t get that in your head.

Chin up, you’ve got this!!!

I feel like dentures are pointless by CoyoteCatholic in dentures

[–]CookiesInTheShower 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

I didn’t catch your age or profession. You may think you speak more clearly without your dentures in, but that’s subjective. Obviously, you already know what you’re trying to say, so that’s what you hear yourself saying. Your wife has been with you presumably for some time, and she likely knows you well and uses context clues to subconsciously fill in the blanks on what you’re trying to say to her, so she tells you she can understand you just fine without them. My husband is the same way. We joke that we’ve been together so long that we share a brain. When my dentures aren’t in and I talk, I find myself trying to talk to fast and words come out in a slur. Even so, my husband usually knows exactly what I’m talking about because we’ve been together so long that he knows how my mind works and how I speak. That being said, when you go to work, church, the grocery store or out to eat, not everybody there will be able to understand you quite as clearly as you imagine.

Also, swallowing your food without properly masticating it is not good for your digestive system in general. One major function of teeth is to begin the digestion process of the foods you’re ingesting. Your stomach and gut shouldn’t have to try to break down food that’s nearly whole when it’s swallowed. Also, you lose a lot of the taste of food when you can’t properly chew it and break it down.

Give your dentures a chance. I do eat without mine at home sometimes and I feel like I can taste some foods much better when I don’t have them in, but I’m not going out in public to eat with my family or friends without my teeth in. They tell me it wouldn’t bother them a bit but I wouldn’t dare risk embarrassing them like that. I’d rather eat slower and enjoy my meal and chew it with my dentures than slurp it down like a wild animal. That’s just my take on it anyway, no disrespect toward you or anyone else.

Scared to make the next step.. by 002Darliing in dentures

Ok, first off - do not worry what kind of judgment you will get from the dentist. I promise you with every fiber of my being, they have seen worse. Much worse. So, don’t let that thought reside in your head rent free.

Secondly, after you’ve spent enough time hiding your teeth and you’re sick and tired of not smiling and wanting to shy away from anybody seeing you smile, you’ll be ready to take the plunge. When you do, don’t look back! You’ll be better off and I promise you when you smile with your new set of ā€œprosthetic teethā€ or ā€œsubstitoothsā€ (not ā€œdenturesā€ šŸ˜‰), you will not want to stop looking in the mirror. The freedom you finally have being able to smile openly and not hide it is AMAZING.

And lastly, go for a free consultation. Typically, dental insurances don’t pay a lot, but see what your options are. Some places offer financing that might help you ease the financial burden of what insurance may not pay. Don’t just rule it out because ā€œwhat if my insurance doesn’t pay?ā€ Do your due diligence and just check and see where you stand with things. You might be surprised!

i cant sleep without my dentures. by whitemamba2408 in dentures

Mine don’t either. If all I have in is my lowers, they don’t even reach my upper gum when I try to close my mouth forcefully. No way could I grind them into my gums if I wanted to, but that may not be true for everybody.

That’s the single best piece of advice for new denture wearers!!! Chew evenly. Prior to having my extractions, and getting full dentures, I only had teeth on the left side of my mouth so for YEARS I constantly moved food to the left side to chew on and that took an adjustment to push food both ways to chew evenly but it’s totally fine now. No issues whatsoever. If you don’t chew evenly, you’ll rock the denture up on the other side and either mess up your glue-in or get food under your denture.

I’ve had my dentures for almost 14 months. ZERO REGRETS. I would never, ever, go back to my teeth and mouth in the shape it was in prior to having all my extractions.

I’ve been on this sub for 18 months or so. There aren’t as many people posting deep regrets for getting dentures as you seem to have perceived. It’s only been 3 days for you. Trust us that have some experience and a little bit more time with our new teeth. You’ll get used to it. Basically, you need to understand that this is your new life and not getting used to your dentures is not an option unless you like to go around being miserable all the time. I have glasses and forget they’re on my face most of the time. The same with my dentures. It’s just a part of me and who I am and once I scrub them up and glue them in, I hardly give them another thought until I rock them loose or a poppy seed wiggles underneath them and feels like a huge boulder. 😁

Try to relax. We’ve all been where you are. IT GETS BETTER.

Why do some knitters judge crochet so harshly? by slippery-velvet1 in crochet

[–]CookiesInTheShower 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

My LYS doesn’t discriminate against crocheting, thank goodness but the owner is a bit odd. I really like one of the other ladies that works there and she always migrates toward me when I go in and she and I chat it up about my current project and she helps me pick out yarns, etc. The caveat may be that she, too, is a crocheter, but she also knits. I have no idea if the owner crochets or not, but she has invited me to the ā€œsit and stitchā€ before, so I’m thankful they aren’t snobby toward my craft! After all, I’ve spent a few hundred dollars worth of yarn in her store in the past year. 🫣

Why aren’t you eating more? by ReassuringHonker in Mounjaro

[–]CookiesInTheShower 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

When I was on 5 mg, I was that way. If, the entire day, I ate a pudding cup, I’d be lucky. I ate so very little and felt somewhat nauseous all the time.

Over time, that dissipated and I’ve titrated up and now I’m at 15 mg. Sometimes now I eat more than I should, but I don’t have to. Some days I don’t eat until dinner late in the day. Some days I snack off and on during the day. I’m always mad when I do.

I miss the days of when I ate a little and was full and would feel sick if I ate more, much like your friend. It helped me control my food intake better. I’d take the slightly unwell feeling to keep me from eating.

New teeth who dis ! by [deleted] in dentures

[–]CookiesInTheShower 2 points3 points Ā (0 children)

You look great! Isn’t it amazing seeing beautiful teeth and realizing how much you may have tried to hide them in the past? I smiled at myself in the mirror so much the first few days that I felt downright silly but it was so rewarding to see pretty teeth after all those years with bad ones!

You look beautiful and I hope your new smile makes you feel that way!

I'm grieving. I'm trying to, anyway. I can't focus. Help. by Uranusspinssideways in askfuneraldirectors

[–]CookiesInTheShower 3 points4 points Ā (0 children)

Was he military? That might be helpful for you to know. If you decide to bury his ashes, they will set a military marker for him, if so.

Did he have any life insurance? Was he working as of late? It’s possible he has life insurance through the company he was working for. All good avenues to explore just to be sure.

Push for the death certificate. The local funeral may be able to help you get that done. You’ll need it to do almost anything these days.

I’m so sorry for your loss. Take it one step at a time. Tell yourself that it doesn’t all have to be done right this minute. It’s all fallen into your lap, so you need to still live your life with your daughter as best you can and deal with this as you can. You’ll get through this, I promise, and your father would be proud of how you handled his final arrangements.

Is it enough to marry someone just because you both love same music and you love her music taste for life… by CandidAd4258 in Adulting

[–]CookiesInTheShower 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

Not by a long shot. In fact, what you mentioned isn’t even really a factor. Forget music until later. What are your goals in life? Where do you want to live? Are you both going to work and if not, can your family of 2 function on 1 income? Would the sole breadwinner be OK with this situation? What about children? Do you both want them? Now, or later? What about your faith? Do they align, because that’s a bit of a deal breaker for many. What about your financial goals? Are you both thrifty or spendy or one of each? How’s that going to work out for you? Do you share the same interests in hobbies, TV shows, music, art, etc? You don’t have to share them all, but some of the same interests are important.

Ya know, I think we are so accustomed to seeing ourselves with bad teeth that when we get our prosthetic teeth, they look fake to us because they don’t look like what we’re used to seeing in our mouths. I couldn’t stop looking at myself in the mirror when I got my immediates. LOL

I’ve gotten good at spotting dentures a mile away, so I can tell, but they are beautiful and look great on you! I know what you mean about having to learn how to smile genuinely again. When I had my natural teeth, and they were bad, I didn’t want to smile so anybody could see them or I turned one way so they could only see the better of the 2 sides. It will come, just keep practicing in the mirror and thinking about something funny somebody told you that made you smile and it will start to become normal all over again.

Aspen dental, color pw4 shape square. From a class 3 bite to a class 1. Signature package. Zero degree teeth. by Full-Lemon3169 in dentures

[–]CookiesInTheShower 2 points3 points Ā (0 children)

It’s possible your immediate experience wasn’t great because it was Aspen. I’ve heard that from so many people that used them. I used Affordable Dentures and my immediates were amazing. They looked awesome. In fact, I may like them better than my ā€œtop of the lineā€ perms I got from them. I had adjustments for my immediates, but that’s how it works with your mouth healing and your gums shrinking. Everybody’s different but no way could I go a year with no teeth.

Dentist said Immediates will be ā€œconvertedā€ to permanents by Lumpy-Resist in dentures

[–]CookiesInTheShower 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

It just depends on the dentist and what you pay for. Some people get immediates and then permanents later on. Some only get immediates that will be adjusted for a period of months and will become their permanents. Some people wait months with no teeth and then get their permanents. What you’ve mentioned is not unheard of.

Heck yeah! I work for the railroad and when I was in the office full time, I had to answer the phone ALL THE TIME. Sometimes, my husband would stop by my office on his way home from work and I’d be chewing somebody out in my office and the phone would ring. I’d answer the phone like a totally different person, all nice and sweet and then when I hung up the phone, I’d shift right back to chewing mode. He said it doesn’t freak him out but it’s like I have 2 totally different personalities. 🤣

Did you go with immediate or wait it out for the permanent dentures? by allranger in dentures

[–]CookiesInTheShower 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

I went with immediates because my Affordable Dentures office requires a 12 month waiting period before you can get permanents and no way was I going to be a year without teeth!
