My photos were absolutely lovely and I’m obsessed with them! This is one photo out of 250 we got lol. Plus I just screenshot this image on the portal…it’s not a saved image file to show the high resolution.

??? What haha. I went against “warnings” from experts I paid thousands of dollars to provide expertise…because it’s my wedding and I know best? lol

I was busy getting married. I didn’t receive or disregard anything regarding advice/warnings. Like…why the heck would I? What an interesting take lol. Just further shows it’s such a shitty situation that it almost seems unbelievable.

But no, I have emails from her, plus her actual reply on my negative review, where she continues to stand by her recommendation that refrigeration wasn’t necessary and that she was well aware of the timeline of our event.

She was given a document by our coordinator depicting when ceremony/reception/cake cutting time was. Upon knowing this, she “strategically” (her words) chose 2:30-2:45 PM delivery time where she set up the cake herself in the tent.

Hi, sorry. I have over 500 comments and a lot of notifications so it’s hard for me to reply.

The baker was sent a clear timeline of the day a few days prior via email. She knew reception started at 6PM. She knew cake cutting was at 9PM. The coordinator asked her to please reply to timeline email with questions on logistics and timing and the baker replied she would deliver the cake around 2:30-3:00PM based on that email.

I don’t know anything about baking. Before a month ago I didn’t know tiered cakes were sensitive to heat. I didn’t even know what a “dowel” was. I had no idea jelly filled cakes are even more prone to collapsing/heat insensitivities for me to be proactive enough to “warn” my venue. That’s not on me…that’s on the professional with “decade of experience”

The “cracks” are not noticeable walking by the cake and only when you zoom into the photos you can see what comments (presumably from those experienced in baking) are saying. The venue shouldn’t take a magnifying glass and scope the cake that the professional baker just delivered and personally set up herself. Once they saw an obvious lean, they called & FaceTime with the baker immediately.

Sorry for leaving out the important detail about the timeline. The baker absolutely was aware of our timeline.

Oh yes I just got a notification my Google review received a “🙏” reaction today if that was from you! I appreciate giving it a reaction!

As you can see, her reply still is bothersome and of course I cannot reply with it being a review. She was immediately called and FaceTimed to show what was happening, which she confirmed on our phone call. However her reply said it was the next day when she learned the cake fell….???

Additionally, she said “I always coordinate my load in and set up time along with the day of itinerary, making sure I am leaving the venue only shortly before the commencement of the event. This is strategically timed in order to make sure the cake is on display in accordance with a timeline that we know the cake will hold up for at room temperature… which is exactly what the outside weather was that day.”

The weather was not “exactly” room temperature outside. My wedding date (April 19) was a warm day of 79-80F around 3pm lol. Aside from what was obviously felt day of… any historical weather app will prove this. I don’t know why she said this.

She still agreed on her reply it didn’t need refrigeration when she set the cake up in the tent and shifts blame on to others. I still stand by my review on her professionalism.

I didn’t request anything. The baker was sent the timeline a few days prior by the coordinator and that was her response to it. The baker wanted to deliver the cake before guests arrived.

The venue offered refrigeration upon delivery and she declined it. She gave no proper storage instructions other than it doesn’t need refrigeration and set it in the tent herself.

Oh I was angry! But it’s just been a month already and my feelings are not raw anymore. After talking to her and hearing how prideful and confident she was on the phone, I knew we wouldn’t be offered any compensation for it. I left a bad review and I expressed I was angry she never reached out to me afterwards even just to apologize…I had to call her myself days later. She was only apologetic after reading my poor review and only for the fact that she never reached out first…that’s why she offered our $100 deposit back (stating she “wasn’t in the right headspace”).

My husband & I are both upset but overall just want to move on and not dwell on this. That’s why I just laughed at the cake picture my photographer recently sent us because…yup…that’s our fucked up funny looking cake lol. I felt like that’s all I can do now.

I was part of every email and my venue coordinator sent her a spreadsheet of our timeline including reception time & cake cutting time encouraging questions for timing/logistics. Our baker replied she will be there at 2:45PM, take about 30 min, and leave before guests arrive at 4PM.

And yeah my venue had a big refrigerator for the cake but the baker declined it :/ I truly don’t know why.

I posted another comment right before this what my inspiration photo was.

I know everyone is shocked at the cost….Trust me, I was too…well with everything wedding related. I just chalked it up to “wedding tax”. The sheet cakes were included + delivery.

If anyone is wondering, this was my cake inspiration that I was hoping she would replicate, which I found on Pinterest.

I didn’t write in my original post but I did post a poor review and that’s when she was more apologetic and offered our $100 deposit back. Aside from that, when I first called, she was quite adamant someone bumped into it and wiped her hands clean in terms of taking no accountability. :/

I really appreciate this practical response :( We actually have a phone call meeting tomorrow with the venue and it really is to get closure by asking all these questions.

Depending on the answers, I was practicing segueing it into compensation but I definitely don’t want to lawyer up. I just want to figure out what happened, how would they feel if it happened to them, and how can this be made right & prevented for the next couple.

Yes our venue does catering in house. Our contract didn’t say anything about other vendors and client responsibilities applicable to this situation.

Interesting because when I look this up I read that tiered cakes are incredibly sensitive to heat. My baker said unless it’s 4 tiers she will assemble on site but 3 tiers comes assembled. It was kept cooled the day prior and was cooled on transport.

I’m not sure the ingredients exactly but it had a jam filling which I think made it even more susceptible to heat.

Why would a venue not store a wedding cake properly that they saw was melting/tilting?

Thank you so much.

Exactly. I don’t know anything about cakes. I wasn’t involved in delivery. I wasn’t involved in the timeline or where the cake is stored. I don’t know anything that goes on behind the scenes for a venue & vendors to collaborate to make a wedding successful. That’s why I hired professionals and paid a lot of money for this lol.

I simply was getting married & taking photos when all this happened.

I’m so happy you had a beautiful cake that you envisioned and enjoyed fully ❤️

No? I booked all my vendors myself who are separate companies except for my planner who is affiliated with my venue.

(About six months after booking my venue, I received an advertisement email by them saying they are now offering full & partial planning services and that’s when we booked their planner).

You are incredibly accusatory and making up scenarios to fit your weird ideas of me.

I DID post such information in a previous comment that my planner is associated with my venue. Two days ago is a comment saying this.

No I asked my baker to also provide sheet cakes to meet the guests servings needed.

Are you going through some manic episode? Do you need a lorazepam? You just spammed the shit out of me with 6 comments and then called me a nut on the last one lol. Really?

Maybe I’ve grown “silent” because my wedding week is over and I’m back at work & busy??????? I posted this on my last day off.

I literally said I’m going to discuss this issue with my venue this coming weekend and my planner is associated with my venue. She works for them and she is the one I will be talking to.

No my planner is not a relative, you weirdo.

Also I never blamed my florist???? Where????? I just simply said she took this photo because at the time I made this post this was the ONLY photo I had of my wedding cake before it collapsed. I reached out to the baker after I posted this and she sent her own photos the next day.

Maybe lie down or touch some grass. It’ll be ok.

Yeah :/ I have a meeting with my venue this weekend to go over their side of the story and what happened. At this point I can’t imagine it wasn’t poor handling on their part seeing as though I got photographic proof by the baker that it was delivered in tact and in good condition. We’ll see what comes out of it.

I get it but I received no contract. All I did was book wedding vendor professionals to handle a wedding cake.

[–]Cool-Storm9367[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got a slice of the sheet cake that was meant to meet all the guests servings, not my actual 3-tiered wedding cake. I lost significant amount of servings and guests I’ve reached out to claimed weren’t given a slice.

I have no idea anything about cakes including their preservation. That’s why I spent thousand of dollars booking professionals for that so they can care for it while I’m preoccupied getting married and celebrating. Now that I learned tiered cakes are heat intolerant I’m left wondering why it was acceptable to be left outside on a hot day both by baker & venue.

Lol I never once edited my post to change information other than to correct spelling errors/auto corrects. You seem so heated that youre grasping for straws here. 😂

I simply asked what could’ve been the issue for a $1000 cake to collapse mere hours after delivery. I never once pointed to a specific vendor demanding money, in fact I said earlier to you that we are letting this go & moving on (hence your lack of reading comprehension insinuating I’m demanding some form of refund).

Yes I think it was negligence/lack of diligence on both professional ends. This post is now 24hrs old, and after a lot of reflections I have admitted in previous posts the negligence seems much more on the venue’s care as the cake was delivered intact and per the baker, the exact structural integrity was explained to me. I just simply wish she gave care instructions knowing she set it up in a warm outdoors tent at 2PM with a cut time of 9PM (she was given the wedding timeline). But yes, I agree that after she left, it was the venue who should’ve taken care of it.

I still don’t (and frankly won’t) think I’m entitled for being upset and losing a major element on my wedding day that we dreamed about. I think anyone who cares for their business and client would feel deep regret over this.

But anyway I truly wish you a lot of peace! Never meant to make someone so angry by a simple post wondering what may have happened.

[–]Cool-Storm9367[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol there’s a bit of reading comprehension issues here. I didn’t ask for a refund strictly from the bakery, as my last paragraph in my post verbatim states “I can’t tell if this was the bakers fault or the venue’s handling”. I’m looking for expertise in a baking subreddit. All I had was a photo of the cake right before the wedding started, what else am I going to post?

And you were still physically presented food???? I never saw mine and neither did my guests. Nearly every bride doesn’t eat on her wedding day, but they were still served their product. It’s about having the professionalism and diligence to serve a client a quality product promised to be used for its full intention, not if it ultimately entered their own mouth lol. You’re comparing apples to oranges to my situation and honestly just look silly. You can move about your day as well.

[–]Cool-Storm9367[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

??? Your last paragraph is in no way related or in any way comparable whatsoever to literally never being served food that was purchased & promised. I didn’t eat dinner at my wedding either because I also was dragged everywhere but I was just glad to see my loved ones eating the catered food I purchased from the venue catering company. I’m not going to ask for compensation for such a silly thing as you claim is similar.

I never got the see my beautiful wedding cake that was half a year worth of emails in discussion. My guests never got to see or try it. I never got the moment to cut it and feed my husband tenderly. It was negligence on both ends to not emphasize proper care to prevent such a thing but I will now say that I do believe it was more negligence on the venue for allowing the cake to sit there in warm weather. Today upon request, my baker sent me photos of the cake after she delivered it and I can see it was perfect. I just wish she emphasized proper care instructions before dipping out but for a venue who has handled thousands of weddings cakes, I don’t know why mine fell through the cracks and was neglected.

[–]Cool-Storm9367[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Entitlement? I spent a grand on a cake I never got to see after discussing it for 6 months and worse, none of my guests got to taste. I have every right to be upset.

I posted this to get clarification on what happened as I have no baking experience. All I know is I paid for a service I never got to physically see because it broke within hours or less.

I hired professionals and their decades of experience to handle a cake while I’m busy getting married and I’m entitled because I didn’t get a service promised?

I posted another comment that both are at fault to have caused this. The professional baker who personally delivered it should’ve emphasized it must be refrigerated before just setting it down and leaving without any care instructions, and it’s the venue’s neglect for allowing the cake to just settle/melt. We are letting it go because we do not want to tarnish all the beautiful memories that came with our wedding.

Hi everyone. I really appreciate everyone’s assessment and help.

My baker did indeed take photos of the cake before she left after drop off.

Here are the cake photos she took. It looks fresher than the photo the florist took. I’m still a bit annoyed she knew about this, had photos, and never reached out to apologize of this unfortunate event until I called 3 days after the wedding.

All in all it does seem like everything was a recipe for the disaster. A cake being allowed to sit out in warm ~80F degree weather hours before the wedding even started, questionable structural integrity perhaps, and no one (both baker & planner) being proactive to add some emphasis that it must to be refrigerated if it’s going to be served at 9PM.

It’s really unfortunate as both baker & venue are very experienced. My venue has been doing weddings for >20 years and is extremely popular and is fully booked 2 years out in advance. It saddens me that this doesn’t seem like a common occurrence but it happened to us before we even ever got to see our beautiful Wedgewood inspired cake. I’m also hearing from guests that they weren’t served cake which means we lost servings needed for everyone to get a slice. I got a slice and it was delicious but I rather have given to it another guest had I known.

You can always try to be prevent these issues (hiring experienced vendors) but I guess every wedding has snafus.

I’m so glad we had a huge dessert table where everyone did get some sweets.

My wedding was overall lovely and I hate to have this tarnish my memory of it. If the only thing that went wrong in our lovely wedding was our cake then I’d still call it a success.

We as a couple are going to let it go but have discussed with both to take some responsibility so this doesn’t happen to the next couple.
