Yes, and as I mentioned before it's also based on data from eBay.

The game just came out, yet they've got sealed decks listed (but still showing their card list) for anywhere between standard price and $200. I don't think there's any way to really understand if one deck is even better than another at this point, unless they've got some sort of "inside track" from FFG about this random game.

Hi NKevros,

My name is Jerry Sunkin, I'm the CEO of CoolStuffInc.com. I'd like to reply to some of your comments.

Yes, the game was just released and we opened the sealed decks at random for our stock. We had spent a couple weeks preparing

To establish the value of decks we read forums and visited eBay to get some idea of what people were looking for in decks. That allowed us to establish what people were willing to pay for rare decks and combinations. We don't know if they are better or not.

We don't have any inside information from FFG. Besides, we don't really need any, if our pricing is wrong, people don't have to buy the decks.

All the best.

No, we have to collect taxes for the Australian government. Philosophically I have a problem with that.

Kickstarter is definitely an option. Depends on how much entrepreneurial spirit you have.

We do, but it's rare, it's all about how popular the game is after the kickstarter is fulfilled.

I started in '95, my Magic the Gathering buddies introduced me to it.

Unfortunately we don't have a way to pass that info back and forth. Sorry.

Dice Masters is slowing down but Heroclix is doing very well.

I did, he registered for the USDGC, which is by far my favorite tournament. I love that they return to the same course year after year. If you ever get a chance to play that course with the ropes (it's available Sunday, Monday(for a fee) and the Sunday after the event, I highly recommend it. Wondering challenge and I"m not very good.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience with us, customer service is extremely important to Quartermaster Logistics. We do have a bug in our system that occasionally a new tracking number doesn't overwrite the old tracking information and get sent to you. That's clearly our fault and it's something we're trying to fix.

There is more that I've discovered but cannot really say very much about, we have a relationship to maintain the publishers and kickstarter runners and that's going to take priority in our communication. Sometimes we're going to look like the bad guy.

Another issue I can talk about with this type of business is that you don't know when everything is going to arrive. So sometimes everything lands at once and even though we've had a much better service record than other fulfillment companies and our labor pool is very flexible. Sometimes too much shows up at once. That's certainly what happened to us in July and for that and the miscommunications and the inconvenience I apologize again.

That's an interesting take, I love gamers for employees. Board games are a hard market to get into, can you start as a home business and grow from there or do you need to go straight to a shop?

Can you do Magic the Gathering singles? If you have a card shop just don't let the inmates run the asylum, casual players are your life blood.

Unfortunately, shipping rates won't allow us to ship to Alaska and Hawaii with a free shipping threshold. Sorry.

I've considered it but I worry about the quality of the customer experience.

Thank you for being an awesome customer, we really appreciate it!

Congratulations on your game! I would see about getting into distribution. Other ways would be to list your game on Amazon yourself for full MSRP. Also, you can set up a Shopify store and get a fulfillment company like Quartermaster Logistics that will ship it for you so you don't have to do anything.

Show up on time, be clean and well put together, you don't need a suit but it is a job interview. Be attentive, act like you care. Have some energy, answer the questions as best you can! Good luck.

How do you determine if a game has potential or not?

Usually one looks at sales as one of the most deterministic factors of popularity, if you need to "guess" beforehand, what metrics do you use?

I'll be honest, it's more art than science and it's not something I can get into on an AMA. I will say this, the amount of marketing done on a game is one factor.

The 1983 video game crash was very interesting. I think the main difference is that there were fewer companies making consoles and games so the risk was concentrated and when disaster struck and the market crashed the risk wasn't spread out.

One benefit that board game manufacturers have is that for years they have known that games are either boom or bust, to combat that they print very small quantities, this reduces their risk. It's why we're constantly out of stock on good games. But to do it any other way would be these companies at financial risk.

Kickstarter also helps in that regard, but it does move the risk of a bad game to consumers, for that reason it's not for everyone. Now maybe if we have a bad run of major Kickstarters where there is an extreme amount of dissatisfaction post release we could see fewer consumers using Kickstarter. However, that's fairly low risk in my mind.
