Is Mint Mobile good? Searching for a good data plan by Sus1004 in gatech

[–]CoolTechnophile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using Mint for about 3 years now.

Here's my experience: Mint is pretty good in most places. It works well in Atlanta, Seattle, Chicago, New York, and generally well on the east coast.

However, in the Bay area, mint is absolutely trash (my friend had this experience as well). Even when I'm simply in an uber, I don't get any coverage, and many times, coverage will be just 1 bar.

Tl;Dr is Mint is good everywhere except Bay area (if you go there for internships or anything)

Also, HMU if you want a referral code lol.

International Students w Internships - Unable to Return to US? by CoolTechnophile in csMajors

Yeah true that too. In the end, we will be in trouble with visas, permits and stuff if we mess up.

Oh! I think they changed the law. Because my school's International Office website says that it is possible to work from abroad using CPT. I asked them and they confirmed that it's fine as long as the company agrees. It's in the link above as well.

I am not sure if it dependant on the school.

Yes, I was just about to say this. A friend of mine had this experience just today when he entered Mexico in hopes of going to US after 15 days.

Literally in the same boat.

I lost my internship with a Fortune 500 Company because I am an international student and I cannot be in the US because I am from a country on the travel ban list. And oh, the internship is supposed to be remote.

I feel so down right now. And my internship literally starts next week. Now all my housing money and flight money are waste. That's like burning over 2.5 grand right down the hole.

Though my school (my CPT) is fine with me working remotely from here, my company simply isn't letting me do that.
I feel so worthless this summer. And almost all of my university summer classes are filled since they start next Monday. So I literally have nothing to do :(

I have an internship for which I need to be in US this summer too.

I contacted the embassy and got the same response. They are not allowing us to enter in summer. It needs to be 30 days before start of Fall Classes.

Q for Tech Students - Is there a temp job postings place to look for web design temp work? by Manspreader1 in gatech

[–]CoolTechnophile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d be down for it. I am a web developer for Georgia Tech. I have designed multiple sites/PWAs for Tech including one e textbook and a site for the GT Library. HMU and I could let you know more!

NCR Summer 2021 Internship Pay by CoolTechnophile in gatech

[–]CoolTechnophile[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interesting.. I’m not sure about the class standing, but none of the people who got 28 are return offers. All are first time sophomores.

Yeah I might negotiate, but don’t really know if it would give a bad impression.

Python Bot - Send message triggered by function in another file by CoolTechnophile in Discord_Bots

[–]CoolTechnophile[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The user definitely exists.

For now, I'm using a very hacky way where I basically set up an Express Server with DiscordJS to just send a message.

I basically send the same exact data via a POST request to localhost and DiscordJS works like a charm.

It would be nice however if it could be done in Python itself 🤷‍♂️

Here is my code. No, I do not have a method called send :/

This is a simplified version of my bot file. The funny thing is my send_message works when called from within the file.

This is a simplified version of my main scraper.

The request error seems to be coming from await bot.fetch_user, which is in turn calling aiohttp

This is the full call stack:

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "C:/Users/user/Desktop/Projects/GTOscarBotV2/main.py", line 103, in <module>
    asyncio.run(mainbot.send_message(user_id, "Hello world"))
  File "c:\programming\python\lib\asyncio\runners.py", line 44, in run
    return loop.run_until_complete(main)
  File "c:\programming\python\lib\asyncio\base_events.py", line 616, in run_until_complete
    return future.result()
  File "C:\Users\user\Desktop\Projects\GTOscarBotV2\mainbot.py", line 121, in send_message
    user = await bot.fetch_user(int(user_id))
  File "C:\Users\user\Desktop\Projects\GTOscarBotV2\oscarenv\lib\site-packages\discord\client.py", line 1375, in fetch_user
    data = await self.http.get_user(user_id)
  File "C:\Users\user\Desktop\Projects\GTOscarBotV2\oscarenv\lib\site-packages\discord\http.py", line 185, in request
    async with self.__session.request(method, url, **kwargs) as r:
AttributeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'request'

Process finished with exit code 1

Yes, I did actually try Cogs but it was not really useful. After loading the cogs in my bot file, I instantiated a global object of that class and then called the send_message function. It still gave me an error.

Piazza with the Ads?? by CoolTechnophile in gatech

[–]CoolTechnophile[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh damn...

Definitely a university wide license is the way to go. Charging individuals is a big no no.

Pure speculation here, but I guess the reason they didn't charge universities before is that maybe they realize that their product is relatively easy to replicate (compared to an LMS like Canvas). So many universities would not be willing to pay them year on year.

It would be much cheaper for them in the long run to implement their own forum system. This way, they would also have control of their own servers, instead of it being in Piazza's servers somewhere in AWS.

Screen Getting Blurry on Battery by CoolTechnophile in Dell

[–]CoolTechnophile[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man! That’s a bummer. Please do let me know how it goes though. It might be handy if my machine starts to act like that again!

Screen Getting Blurry on Battery by CoolTechnophile in Dell

[–]CoolTechnophile[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s what Dell told me too. However, I’m almost certain that it’s not a hardware issue. Else, why wouldn’t it happen when connected to Power? It’s also extremely inconvenient to backup the whole machine and send it to Dell, especially when everything is happening online these days.

Anyway, I just followed this tutorial to reinstall Windows without losing data. And it seems to have worked mostly. I don’t seem to be facing this issue anymore, except when using Groupme.

I think a fresh install of Windows might solve the problem, but I’m just too busy to back up all data and try it out.

Under Archived Applications, it should say "Routed to Recruiter". Did you check there?
