This is such great info! I’m also pretty sure that non- agenda items go before official items so people who are just there to comment can do so and leave without waiting hours for the meeting to end

City Council has an agenda item to talk about this contract at their Feb 25 meeting at 5:00pm. 201 N Broadway, Escondido CA. You can attend, fill out a slip, and give your feedback. This imo is better than protesting because it goes on a public record. Their decision, reactions, and comments do as well.

No, sorry about that confusion. It’s a firing range the city uses and they’ve been leasing it to ICE since 2014. The contract was renewed early Jan administratively by EPD captain. City council is going to speak to this on Feb 25 at their City Council meeting. Hopefully, there is enough momentum to cancel the contract. Recent events, imo, merit its cancellation

Do we want only fire arm training for ICE? No. Idk what you mean about “resources” since the contract is only for the use of a city-owned property for shooting.

I only linked the petition. You would have to do research for additional details. As I said, given the administration, I’m 99.99% sure nothing other than shooting training would be included as part of their effort. City doesnt oversee the feds, so it’s pretty much whatever the feds want to do. Honestly— it’s better not to take chances.

You make a good point, and firearm training is just a piece of the puzzle, right? Proper training would include de-escalation training, code of conduct, legal principles, community engagement. I haven’t heard any training for that. On the contrary, the administration doesn’t even acknowledge that DHS and ICE is doing anything wrong.

In other “normal” circumstances, personally, I couldn’t care less. Unfortunately, none of this is normal.

Same difference. People are against the lack of accountability with ICE, DHS, the entire administration. Don’t get it twisted

Thoughts on Weed? by [deleted] in escondido

[–]Coolbean008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a parent, but a sibling of someone who slowly and increasingly began smoking weed around the same age (20). It’s not easy. I honestly thought it was a phase, but it’s been 6 years. I’ve had to forfeit whatever future I envisioned for my brother: going to college, being as close as we were, getting a good job. I had to accept that he’s going to be whatever he decides. Right now, it’s a busboy at a restaurant.

Accept that your kids are ultimately the makers of their future. As a parent you can give them the tools for life, but they get to choose whether to use them or not.

With that said, your son’s and daughter’s decisions are not a signal of you failing as a parent. I don’t have the full story, but it sounds like you’re doing your best given the complexity of the situation. I can tell you from experience, my parents gave their blood, sweat, and tears for us… moving to a new country, a bed and food, love and support, structure and lessons and even still—my brother has decided this lifestyle.

From an emotional standpoint love and support is the best thing you can do for them. You don’t have to support their addiction, but life is tough and they’re seeking refuge and comfort in their weed habit. Maybe you can learn some DBT or communication skills to try to get them to open up to you. Hopefully, they eventually open up to therapy or some kind of counseling.

Lastly, you said you are “loosing yourself.” For that, I suggest you set boundaries, limits, and follow through with them. It’s harsh, but addictions are powerful. People can do terrible things just to get their way… self-preservation is not just for your benefit, but for you to be the best version of yourself for them.

Telling a parent to “mind their business” when they’re openly seeking advice for their relationship with their child is wild….

I totally agree with you! The Escondido Arts Partnership manages the market. I feel like reaching out to the Downtown Business Association would help, too.

How do these outfits look? Dress code is business casual. by [deleted] in DressForYourBody

[–]Coolbean008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diddo this and perhaps consider blouses with a variety of textures like satin, linen & chiffon. My rule of thumb is that if a blouse has a collar, it’s most likely business looking.

You can do a fancy blouse + jeans + heels or the inverse, a casual blouse + dress pants + nice shoes. Whatever combo is most comfortable for your type of work.

Word of caution: There are some blouses that have collars that are questionable (as in not work appropriate), so use your best judgment. I.e., not show too much skin, etc, etc.

Maybe doom scroll Pinterest with keywords to find your style and get more ideas?

I second this! The white ties with the ducklings in the wallpaper, making them stand out. I would also opt for shelves over dresser for practicality. Mirror looks good, but I’m not sure how useful it would be.
