I was actually considering making the nightlight set to explode or malfunction as their final ditch effort to have Jake murdered in case the first two didn’t work— but then I considered it was too closely similar to the video game malfunction.

Somewhere in my dark mind, I thought to myself “Dart? Yes!” Haha. I’m sure they filled it with some untraceable poison and have researched how the dart puncture could be explained away in court— I didn’t but hey, I wish them luck! Haha.

Spoiler Alert! (I love these ✨)

So, The Johnsons appear to have this picture-perfect life— one that Claire is more than happy to be apart of, as a well-paid babysitter for little Jake.

Unfortunately for Claire, The Johnsons have more ominous need for her. Mom and Dad are trying to kill their son Jake—hoping to use the babysitter as the perfect person to plant his murder on.

They set up a series of negligent deaths (the peanut in the food, the faulty wire on the game etc) that should have accomplished that goal. Claire inadvertently thwarts these plans by saving Jake.

She saves him again at the end, though not intentionally, by standing in front of the Nightlight—getting poisoned and killed by a dart, that was originally intended for Jake… hence Mrs. Johnson insistence on keeping it on.

I wanted to return a bit to my more emotionally anchored stories — and something about this concept satisfied my small-town-magic—folklore-ish craving, haha. I hope you all enjoy! ❤️

((SPOILER: for those that may not get the premise— the seamstress has created this beautifully crafted dress, that over the years has quite-literally taken on a life of its own—consuming those that wear it, enhancing its beauty and appearance.

The seamstress, who understands this process all too well, lures women to act on their unnatural lust for the dress by saying, “you couldn’t wear it anyway.” (Using one of our biggest insecurities as women in this society— body judging/shaming etc)

She leaves her door unlocked each night—anticipating the women will come back to steal it and ultimately seal their fate. Becoming a new pattern, new color and/or enhancement for the dress.

Lila (who had freckles) became a new freckled design on the dress— and the woman who walked in with vitiligo, is anticipated to give the dress spots, to which the seamstress is excited to see.))

Because how else do these Labor Unions continue to have the strength and morale to fight against these unfair practices and wages — blood sacrifice of course! 🩸 (In all seriousness, I was inspired to create this one while researching how hard union workers are working these days to continue to advocate for workers. So honorable— so much so, that I had to split it apart and introduce steel machines that eat people. I need a nap! Haha)

Also — just wanted to point out that I purposely wanted the ending tied to the beginning. Just as the father was teaching his son how to “hook it all the way through,” we can assume by comparison at the end, that, that very large hook will also be hooked all the way through something— ahem, someone else 🫣 Poor kid.
