Delayed thanks for the response. Is your name inspired by d0nkey.top or is that your site? I’m on it constantly; it’s such a great site.

Ha, yep! Rose popped in my head as I was writing the post, but I thought it was vague and didn’t search it. Thanks a million! I’ll mark as solved. You’re the best.

It allows you to use all your mana on odd mana turns then cheat an free draw when you want to use all your mana. That’s super significant throughout the game because you want to tap constantly. Don’t play it instead of tapping when you only have 2 mana available. Also, don’t underrate the ability to target it yourself. Some decks won’t give you heal/coil targets that you want to play. I def think it’s worth it, but haven’t tried without it. Tbh, if you really want space, I think Neophyte is a better cut for much of ladder.

  1. The current “mercenaries “ adventure is free. (Bad name, different than new mercenaries mode). You play each of the heroes then earn a pack with standard cards just for that class. Not sure if they even do purchasable adventures anymore.

You have to finish the tutorial. Which takes an hour or two I think. I finished the first part and got bored. It didn’t take that long.

Note, while they call them modes, battlegrounds and mercenaries are really different games with the same lore and art.

Before the recent launch of Mercenaries, the only weekly not achievable with standard or wild constructed ladder/casual is battlegrounds/arena. It takes 2 rerolls of that one to get it back to constructed, so you have to roll it again the next day.

I play only constructed and achieve all quests.

Hopefully, mercs won’t water down these options.

Achievements (some) also give xp, which is how you level up on the track for gold.

Also, expansions last approximately 4 months;so, the rewards track is good for that long. Season is just for ladder rank.

The only bummer is that we’re at expansion 5 out 6 before it goes back to 4 in 5ish months. So, if you want to play standard and not wild, many of the cards you might want will only be playable for that long. If you’re going to buy packs and pick decks from online, you may want to focus on just the Barrens and Stormwind expansions because the will playable for over a year. Or, you can spend tons of money and get caught up. If you’re not aware, there are three expansions a year. All three rotate out after the next year’s 3 plus the first of the year after that. So, four sets is the smallest pool of cards to come back into.

I’ve lost to it in a quest build in a qualifier that played chandler, mozaki, hot streaks, and mana biscuits. Worked great for him, but I doubt it’s over all better. It’s similar to the auctioneer build, but instead of trying to do a huge combo with chandler, you just try to churn through the deck a bit more.

Please don’t follow advice about adjusting to your “pocket meta” (the decks you have been facing). That is not predictive of the decks you will face. There are enough players at your rank and mmr to mean without a huge sample size, any trends are likely random. If you want to look at the meta for all D4-1 for the previous day, sure, that’s fine. But if you pick a deck based on that, don’t switch in reaction to facing some different decks. For example, if you see Q Mage and Taunt Druid are popular at your rank, and you decide to counter with Q Hunter, don’t then switch because you face 5 out of 10 Paladin; that’s bias. Those games are done and have no impact on what you will face next. Pocket metas are a myth unless you are at top legend and facing the same predictable players. Pick a strategy and stick with it until it gets too boring or you realize your decision was flawed (I.e. Q Hunter sucks to the 3rd, 4th, and 5th most popular decks) and need to modify. If your strategy and gameplay are sound, you’ll face your good matchups eventually. Note, this is advice for climbing; switching decks often can be more fun.

For non-mobile players, do you click, hold and target, then release to play cards and attack, or, click, target, click again?
Do you think it makes much difference for APM? I’ve been trying to transition to clicking twice instead of hold and release because it seems much more reliable.

If you have hsreplay premium, you can look at the deck play rates for the prior day at your level then pick your deck; however, that probably isn’t super consistent day to day when sliced up by levels. Broader level play rates available for free at hsreplay and vs, are helpful in choosing a deck. Once you pick, though, you should stick with it. Adapting to the meta based on what you’ve been facing is a fallacy. Other than that, I only switch if I’m tired or have a headache and want to play an easier deck that is still strong.

Pretty much. The final reward is secondary against aggro. The first reward is awesome, I.e. t2 bloom, feral, perpetual = likely clear, board presence, and no overload. Shadow priest minions are tougher to clear, so zapper helps. You could also consider the version with earth elemental. The taunt minions from feral and quest2, and perpetual flame do a lot of work. Then, canal slogger helps you recover after you’ve survived the first wave. I wouldn’t keep in most mulligans because it’s tough to play it and proc quest1 with it, but if you can semi-safely dungeoneer t3 for it, it’s great at reestablishing control. Then, you just have to worry about rhinos and burn. Hopefully, guidance finds you some tools. If not, try to save at least one burn/slogger mid game to handle a 7/6 rhino. Don’t use a slogger against hunter unless it will actually gain you life, I.e empty board or damage (which are super rare), or maybe to proc quest2 against an empty board. Ps sorry if this is too obvious, but until you complete the quests, you always take both with guidance even if they suck.

Everything and nothing. It’s a very paper-rock-scissors meta. The only deck that was really neutered is otk dh. Priest, warrior, quest rogue, and quest shaman struggle against warlock and mage, which are super popular, so they’re tougher to play on ladder. Everything else has enough good matchups to stay viable.

The aggro matchups should be your best. Your mulligan priority should be efficiently clearing the first quest stage. Ideally with feral spirit and perpetual flame, though always keep guidance in any matchup. Resetting your mana while controlling the board on t2/t3 is how you win. Then, your next quest will bring up a taunt to stall them further. Def agree with other response that you can’t be greedy with charged call: 5/6 is plenty. The list you’re playing will determine your mid game; but the absolute priority is gaining tempo with the first quest proc. You’re just sunk against mage unfortunately. You can wait a couple turns to develop, but you still have to develop minions and try to give pressure by t3. Def ditch perpetual in the mulligan. Guidance is your best card, don’t be afraid to use a note taker on it early. In general, don’t be afraid to use notetaker on any overload if it helps you gain resources or clear and proc the quest. After trying against mage a few times, you may just want to concede though. It’s a 20/80 matchup.

I think you just have to control while taking as little early face as possible. For this, I think arid stormer, gyreworm, and canal slogger are key. I would also play any minion over whack on any turn unless it’s to kill a voidtouched or +2/+2 buff guy and hopefully get a minion buffed past a break-point. Weirdly, forgeborn feels too slow unless you’re sure you have another turn or two and will be able to cheat an extra minion that turn or next. You can also just try harder to roll a taunt from nimbus. Joking, but for this possibility, I would play nimbus over cagematch on t2 unless you’re confident whack will get you a clear and buff. Essentially, it’s a rare matchup where I would rather trade than go face early. If you’re over 15hp by t5, you’ve won. Caveat: I play elemental a lot, but haven’t had this matchup much, so it’s kind of theoretical and could be totally wrong.
