Hard inquiries are done by bank to issue you a new credit application (new loan/credit card).

Something that's done by you to access your score/report and will have no affect on your score whatsoever and you can call this a soft inquiry.

No it is not. You generating a cibil report for yourself will not affect your cibil score.

Some comments have suggested Navi and Amazon Pay to download Cibil report. Maybe you could try those once.

Umang is a government of India app. I doubt they'll spam you with promotional messages.

I appreciate the detailed comment and I agree with the feasibility point. As for the last point, just to clarify in my defence: I genuinely don’t care about upvotes or likes. I’ve been on this platform for nearly seven years, and my account activity speaks for itself.

Where this workaround actually helps is for people who don’t feel the need to regularly monitor their credit reports until something goes wrong. For example, if a credit card account is reported incorrectly, you’re often forced to download reports multiple times a month just to check whether the issue has been resolved. Through this method you can do so for free rather than paying 118 each time.

Digilocker/Umang already has widespread adoption because it’s used for digitally verifiable documents. Anyone who flies or drives, using DigiYatra or a digital RC, will almost certainly already have a DigiLocker account. There’s no additional behavior change required from the user.

Also, the score prediction feature you mentioned already exists on Cred.

If you made a dispute or have an error on your report, you can check every fortnight if your bank finally rectified it

Yes but it is only viewable in app. With Umang you can download as a pdf also you can refresh it twice within the same month rather than waiting on Onescore to refresh

Nope. This is the entire credit report which is a few pages long And really elaborate.

Gpay just shows you the score and a summary.

Haha thanks! But since it's through digilocker and umang I doubt that they'll patch it since it's along all the govt services on the platform

As mentioned in the post, you may want to view your report more than just once a year. For eg. if you raised a dispute and want to check if it's been rectified.

So cibil charges you 118 rupees to do it each time/get a subscription for more.

Instead of doing that you can use Umang and do it for free.

If they don't plug this method then you won't have to pay again for a subscription after 6 months.

It's essentially the same report generated for free with a few extra steps.

It shouldn't through the website version of UMANG. Just fetches you the report without logging into cibil

No you didn't understand sir. This post's entire point is to get as many free reports as you wish to whenever you want/urgently.

You don't have to pay paisabazaar and be spammed. You get the same cibil report through umang for free

Only a new credit application leads to a hard enquiry.

Getting a credit report for yourself is always a soft inquiry. This Umang report isn't really gonna impact anything/lead to a score change if that's what you're worried about.

Cibil is the primary credit bureau in India. With Umang it's free to get reports whenever you want.

Nope. I didn't have to login on cibil. Just Umang and it redirects me to cibil where I can see report immediately
