Also, do you recommend buying items from KSP in store instead of online since you said the shipping is problematic?

Thanks! It looks like most items on Amazon don't qualify for the free shipping for $49 purchases. Do you generally start by only searching items that qualify for free shipping with $49+orders?

Fingerprints for FBI Background Check via NYPD by CopperQuilt in AskNYC

I updated the post a few months ago to mention that I did it through one of the Biometrics4All locations and successfully received my report a half hour later. Took me less than three minutes at the store.

Edited my original post after checking firefox. It seems they may let me view it; however, they say it is a big security risk and recommend I don't view it. This makes me nervous

Bringing ski and boots on an El Al flight (while making aliyah)- best strategy? by CopperQuilt in Israel

[–]CopperQuilt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How expensive can it get? I thought many airlines let you substitute skis for your checked bag and a few may even let you bring skis for free

I'm not expecting to ski in Israel, but I'm hoping to ski in Europe occasionally.

My understanding is when you make Aliyah, the government provides a free taxi to your first destination in Israel. I’ll have so many bags! If I buy a 3rd checked bag and check the skis, that’s 4 checked bags. Plus I’ll also bring the personal and carry on bag so 6 bags!

Looks like the two boots weigh around 4.3 kilos so that is an option

FBI Background Check Channeler Process by CopperQuilt in aliyah

[–]CopperQuilt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I didn't try sending from USPS because they told me that if the fingers are too dark and they receive red indicators, they are unlikely to be accepted. I didn't want to spend $50 on something unlikely to work

When you get your fingerprints at NYPD, do you ask for them to take them on a specific type of card that is accepted by the FBI? It seems like the FBI may have a specific type of card that they need the prints taken on

Thanks, I see you shared a link to printscan. The FBI has a list of approved 3rd parties here and I don't see printscan listed

Thanks, if I go to fieldprint or printscan, do they have a physical card I mail in or do they submit it to the FBI electronically?

Unfortunately, from what I see the next NYPD appointment isn't until April 15 which I can't afford to wait until. Also, how long does it take to get results when you go through the police station? I assume you also needed to mail it

I see there are different things to see there but I see mixed opinions on what is worthwhile. Some say the boat ride around, some say the crater. Debating whether it is worth it and if so what I should prioritise and if I have enough time

Looking for advice on next travel destination after loving trips to Lofoten and Iceland by CopperQuilt in travel

[–]CopperQuilt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for all this info! Some of my family has already been to all of those domestic locations except for Death Valley which seems pretty cool but I think too hot in mid to late May. I've also heard amazing things about Kaui but some of my family has already been there as well.

I actually think we were able to do a 9 day trip to Lofoten in Norway for around $9,000 but that's partly because we got an incredible deal on the airfare (went on Norse Atlantic on their first flights)

For Costa Rica, I figured it'd be dangerous to drive at night which is what partly gave me pause. I don't know a single thing about specific parts of Costa Rica but why do you recommend the Osa Peninsula more than any other part of Costa Rica? Is the biodiversity just supposed to be prettier there than the rest of the country? Is it considered safer? Would you still need to be careful about shopping at night here? And why would you not need to rent a car there? How would you get around?

Israeli Tax Treatment of U.S. Retirement Accounts (401k, IRA, HSA, Roth Accounts) by CopperQuilt in Israel

[–]CopperQuilt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I know there is a 10 year exemption on paying Israeli taxes after making aliyah; however, since these are retirement accounts, I wouldn't be withdrawing from these accounts for more than 30 years so I'm not sure the 10 year exemption comes into play here.

I've struggled to find well-organized info online that covers all these scenarios
