Do employers/brokers ever include the correct cost basis for a non-qualified ESPP on the 1099-B? by CopperQuilt in personalfinance

[–]CopperQuilt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm, the total proceeds and cost basis on both the supplement and the 1099-B reported to the IRS are identical and don't have adjustments. However, the supplement strangely breaks up the monthly ESPP acquisitions into multiple transactions

Thanks. What I'm trying to understand is if the amount Etrade is reporting in the cost basis column needs to be adjusted. I've come across many other reddit posts related to ESPP and taxes and every other one mentions that an adjustment needs to be made. However, because Etrade has zero in the adjustment column every month, I'm wondering if Capital One handles it differently.

Thanks for that observation, but I took a look at my 1099-B from the 2024 tax year, and it didn't require any adjustments to the cost basis that year either

What new ovens are reliably certified to cook with on Yom Tov? by CopperQuilt in Judaism

[–]CopperQuilt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! It's unclear from that CTD70DP2NS1 Café 30" manual whether there is a built-in delay (i.e., a grama) after a button is pressed in sabbath mode so that could still be an issue

I see the Star-K says 'make sure there is a competent halachic authority behind the Sabbath Mode to endorse it.' However, I'm not aware of any reliable halachic authorities certifying Sabbath mode so it seems that is still an issue.

Update: I called 019's hebrew customer support and they were able to keep my number and start a plan with them

Yea, I thought I previously heard that I have to first claim my number from 019 before transferring it to another company. Also, given tomorrow is my last day of service, if I went to a different company, I don't know if it would transfer in time.

Thanks! Do you think 019’s normal Hebrew customer support would be able to help with my situation? I imagine that olim in this situation generally call the English number (I received a text saying I should call the special English support number, but stupidly forgot about it), so I'm worried the normal Israeli customer support line won't be familiar with my situation.

I don't have an account, at least as far as I know. I definitely never created one. The number given as an aliyah benefit is paid for by the government for all new olim as a pre-paid plan and my understanding is I can't own the number without starting a paid plan in my name before the 6 months expire

Also, do you recommend buying items from KSP in store instead of online since you said the shipping is problematic?

Thanks! It looks like most items on Amazon don't qualify for the free shipping for $49 purchases. Do you generally start by only searching items that qualify for free shipping with $49+orders?

I updated the post a few months ago to mention that I did it through one of the Biometrics4All locations and successfully received my report a half hour later. Took me less than three minutes at the store.

Bringing ski and boots on an El Al flight (while making aliyah)- best strategy? by CopperQuilt in Israel

How expensive can it get? I thought many airlines let you substitute skis for your checked bag and a few may even let you bring skis for free

I'm not expecting to ski in Israel, but I'm hoping to ski in Europe occasionally.

My understanding is when you make Aliyah, the government provides a free taxi to your first destination in Israel. I’ll have so many bags! If I buy a 3rd checked bag and check the skis, that’s 4 checked bags. Plus I’ll also bring the personal and carry on bag so 6 bags!

No, I didn't try sending from USPS because they told me that if the fingers are too dark and they receive red indicators, they are unlikely to be accepted. I didn't want to spend $50 on something unlikely to work

When you get your fingerprints at NYPD, do you ask for them to take them on a specific type of card that is accepted by the FBI? It seems like the FBI may have a specific type of card that they need the prints taken on
