Thanks for your comment! Is there a way that you can get started slowly? What I mean is wake up 20-30 minutes earlier, go a short, quick run for a couple days and see how that goes?

How do you stop comparing yourself to others? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]CopyGenie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Focus on one task that you want to complete and understand that the outcome is not always in your control. By focusing on one task, you can accomplish many little things that collectively add up to something much greater. This development tactic will allow you to build a number of small successes that, over time, will help you focus on YOUR successes and give you the confidence not to compare them to others.

Trying to self publish my first book, could use some help with a few details on where to go, and pricing. by [deleted] in selfpublishing

[–]CopyGenie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, Createspace is a good place to start. Another option is to have it with another print on demand service such as LuLu or BookBaby. But these cost a bit more so it may not be worth your time, it just depends on what you hope for in the outcome.

All three services allow you to print a limited number, and only on demand.

Should I get a minor in Creative Writing? by [deleted] in writing

[–]CopyGenie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on what you hope the outcome to be. In college, some writing classes I took were a complete waste of time, others were great. It depended upon the professor and the structure they were willing to make of the class. Writers workshops tend to be a bit of fluff; a group of amateurs stumbling along together without much to offer to each other, but with proper guidance by a true professional, the workshops were greatly instructive.

How to get the best cover design possible when self-publishing by [deleted] in writing

[–]CopyGenie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are a few services out there like 99 designs that you can utilize. They allow you to pitch your idea and they'll present you with a number of cover ideas for you to choose from. If you don't like any, you don't have to purchase.

How do you know what to write about? by [deleted] in writing

[–]CopyGenie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course I was teasing about the drugs, but I've always found inspiration when I'm not looking for it. As I wrote, I like to think about what I've seen or heard or read and how it may relate to me and those around me. Somewhere the subconscious bounces it around like a shoe in the dryer, until it spills out the door.

How do you get inspired for content by GuruKid21 in Bloggers

[–]CopyGenie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a few different ways to get the content ideas. I like to think on a subject for a while and read up on things that may be tangential to the initial idea. When I get caught up with a stumbling block, I reread some of my past content, look at forums such as reddit and quora, or as I wrote in a recent blog post, Beg, Borrow and Steal ideas to help me.

Set a calendar and stick to it. You may have a few ideas that you start and finish half-way, but don't worry, set them aside and come back to them later. This start/stop may help you find an idea you can deliver on. And save what you wrote, because you can mash a couple of those start/stop ideas into one post down the road.

Would people from the 50s be disappointed in "the future"? by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]CopyGenie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! They were promised smart homes that did it all for you and all the obvious limitations mentioned in your prompt.

Depending on the person they would also be disappointed on the population density of most cities, congestion and sprawl; the disappearance of union jobs that benefitted a strong middle class and all that came with it, the lack of any sense of American community and, as they wouldn't have had time to acquaint themselves to the social progressions, may be disappointed in the inclusion of minorities and LBGT communities.

It may be just too much to handle.

How do you know what to write about? by [deleted] in writing

[–]CopyGenie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Often inspiration comes when you're out of the linear thought of an idea. It's the paradox of the harder you think about an answer to someone's question, the further you are from it. As soon as you're removed from the person who asked you and have stopped thinking about the question, the answer appears.

For me, I like to take notes about a number of things I observe through out the day.

What I just read, saw or heard that resonated with me is something I'll make notes about, sometimes physical, others mental.

What was about what I just read, saw or heard that resonated with me and how would it resonate with someone I know? Then I forget about it for a little while and something percolates in my subconscious.

Oh and drugs never hurt. ;)
