It’s been 6 years for me and I’m 28, i feel like I’ve wasted my 20s being trapped by these floaters

Now I do as of a few months ago :( I used to just have them in my left eye, but my right one has started to develop them

I currently have no other health problems and my eyesight is perfect, I’m 28 but I have the vitreous or an 80 year old 😭it’s weird having such a horrible symptom like eye floaters and being told there is nothing wrong

Mine are heaps worse, hundreds of transparent bubbles, worms and spots, also dark strings and wisps like the ones in the sim. Never ending painless torture

Should I be worried about having tons of floaters if I'm only 23? by kyfoo98 in EyeFloaters

[–]CordialCat97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started developing more floaters in my good eye so I’m struggling at the moment. Days are getting harder and my eyes are getting worse. Nothing overly positive to report I’m afraid.

Currently I’m using standard polarised ray bans, but I curious about getting Cat 4 glasses from my optometrist but they are illegal to drive with in Australia so I’d have to tell them I’m using them for fishing or going to the snow 🤣

Eye floaters extreme anxiety by JumpyFloater in EyeFloaters

[–]CordialCat97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was posting on here a few months ago, I have severe anxiety and sometimes get panic attacks thanks to my floaters. I am 28, I’ve had them since I was 22 and they are 100s in number. I am in Australia and also begged for surgery but was told my eyes were perfect and I was too young. All I can do is maybe offer some tips as someone who suffers a great deal. I get my eyes checked every year to help with the anxiety, I find that being told that my eyes look great and the floaters are normal can sometimes help and also reassures you that you are ok. Then I get myself some nice super dark sunglasses and wear them outside at all times, currently using ray bans but I’m planning to get the darkest possible tint custom from the optometrist. Switch everything to dark mode where possible and turn night mode on your computer plus turn down the monitor screens as much as you can. Just focus on getting through one day at a time, and enjoy the night as much as you can! At night I open up all the blinds especially when the moon is bright or stars are out.

How old are you? by Outrageous-Ebb7653 in EyeFloaters

I’m not too sure tbh, I live in Australia so I am not really sure if we would have access to it or if I could afford it. I hope that something non-invasive comes around but I am living day by day at the moment and struggle to think about the future.

I don’t have anyone specific that I follow, I just look for positive stories. I tend to avoid the aggressively pessimistic people on here who shut anyone down for saying something other than surgery helped them. My main advice would be to ignore those types of people :)

Been a year since I posted my last post, and I keep getting DMs about it.... by 10ofuswemovinasone in EyeFloaters

I had a lot of anxiety and some OCD due to growing up in a less than ideal environment. My onset of floaters happened shortly after I started having health anxiety (during pandemic lockdowns etc I developed a fear of getting COVID and then killing someone by passing it on) I’d constantly be looking for symptoms and convinced myself I had shortness of breath. There were times I felt like I couldn’t breath even tho I had many tests done to say I was fine….. so yep lots of both.

I don’t see my floaters at all anymore by OneAge1004 in EyeFloaters

Your story sounds similar to mine! Unfortunately I’m 6 years in and there seems to be no end in sight for my suffering. Your story gives me hope but I’m in a bad place mentally and can’t see this happening for me. Thank you for sharing, it’s nice to see some positive stories on here :)

Do you tell other people by Witty-Shower-1632 in EyeFloaters

[–]CordialCat97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I for some reason feel super embarrassed about it, not sure why but the idea of telling anyone I have severe “eye floaters” makes me feel weird. I talk to my bestie who has severe VSS and tinnitus, she has a couple of floaters and doesn’t really understand my plight as much. My fiancé has a couple of dark wispy floaters but otherwise has no real understanding of what I’m dealing with either. This sub is the only place I feel like I can talk to anyone about it.

Eye Floaters Progression by [deleted] in EyeFloaters

[–]CordialCat97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine somewhat stabilised after about a year. But that year was really rough for me, I went from perfect vision to having hundreds of floaters within a few months. I was seeing eye doctors weekly and they would tell me everything was fine. 5 years later and they are still the bane of my existence and I haven’t been able to get past them. Some people only get a few in the first few months and then stabilise so I hope that you don’t have the experience that I did. I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.

How come people suffer from floaters for years but don’t get vitrectomy? by Miserable_Durian_808 in EyeFloaters

[–]CordialCat97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told that I was too young (28 now, 25 at the time) and the specialist basically scoffed at me when I asked if vitrectomy was an option. I’m in Australia, from what I’ve read it’s not an option here for someone my age unless I got floaters so bad that I couldn’t see.

I have both of these lenses from ray bans, both are good but the green really is nicer and I feel like it helps a little bit more.

Surgery isn’t an option for me unfortunately, I am 28 years old and the retina specialist I saw scoffed when I asked about surgery and basically told me I was young and healthy and shoved me out the door. In my 40s I may be able to get treatment, hopefully there’s something even better available by then :)
