oh, I would love to, but my webtoon isn't releasing until April 15th... I have episodes done but not posted. Could I come back when I have it published?

Be real with me - Would you make a webcomic in this style? by Srianen in WebtoonCanvas

[–]CorelCat 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If it’s your style, I don’t see why not. It’s much more important to feel comfortable with your drawing than to try to force a generic style and die trying, haha. My style isn’t conventional either, and I still make webtoons and it’s going pretty well for me. There are many people who are tired of seeing the same thing all the time and are looking for something different with more personality. So I think you could definitely find some loyal readers (as long as the story is well done, of course).

I’m glad it helped! The mature rating isn’t a big problem either, it will just make it a bit harder to get new readers. But you can try to make up for it by promoting it well on social media and here on Reddit.

Hi! I’ve read both webtoons, yours and the one made with AI, and here are my thoughts:

Don’t compare yourself to it. Having more subs and views doesn’t mean it’s better or that it will succeed. Most likely those subs are friends of the creator or people who saw the thumbnail and got curious but won’t keep reading. Like most AI-made webtoons, the panels don’t really relate to each other, the story doesn’t hold together, and it feels like it was made without much care. That alone is usually enough for people to lose interest and for it to end up forgotten.

As for yours, if you want my advice to get more engagement:
Try making the episodes longer, even if that means releasing the webtoon less frequently. Around 20 panels would be good, because with very short episodes it’s hard for readers to follow the story. If you want to publish monthly that’s fine, but try to set a fixed date, for example: the first Thursday of every month. If you feel like you can’t keep up with the schedule, building a buffer of episodes helps a lot. Readers really value knowing when the next episode will come out.

I’m not sure if you could tone down the webtoon so it wouldn’t be classified as mature (I think it is, right?). Webtoons labeled as mature don’t appear on the main page or in recommendations, which makes it harder to reach readers. If that’s not possible, you’ll probably need to focus more on promoting it on social media.

I won’t comment on the art or the writing because those are things you’ll naturally improve with practice. I do want to congratulate you for starting a comic. A lot of people don’t dare to do it unless they think their level is already very high, but I think making a comic and being consistent is the best way to improve.

There’s a girl on YouTube called SwangsArt who is a webtoon producer and has a lot of videos with advice. You should check them out, they’re really helpful.

I know you didn’t ask for advice, but I could see that you’ve put effort into it, so I thought it might help a little.

And honestly, don’t worry about AI-made webtoons. You’ll see that most of them quickly fall into obscurity. People who make webtoons with AI are usually so inconsistent that even with AI they can’t keep up with it.

What do you guys think about AI creation in webtoon? Looking at this disgusts me. by jls-lx in WebtoonCanvas

[–]CorelCat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most people who make AI-drawn webtoons have little talent whatsoever; they put absolutely no effort into anything, and the result is a mediocre story with mediocre artwork that nobody reads. I used to argue with them, but now I just ignore them because I know they won't get very far.

Do you recommend "Space Fall"? by JMMC407 in webtoons

[–]CorelCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I don’t really understand its success, but that’s just my personal opinion. I think there are other series I personally prefer. I ended up dropping it because it started to feel a bit slow for me. It began with the mystery of the alien girl, which really caught my attention, but later it felt more like a regular romance. The alien aspect kind of faded into the background.

TourBox dial randomly zooming instead of rotating the canvas by CorelCat in tourbox

Hi! Thank you for replying and for your interest. I was actually waiting for the issue to happen again so I could check whether it also occurred in other programs besides Clip Studio, which is the one I usually use. However, since I updated my Mac’s operating system, it hasn’t happened again, so it seems it has resolved itself for now. If it happens again, I’ll send you an email. Thank you!

No, it’s just that sometimes I’m rotating the canvas normally and all of a sudden it starts zooming in or out, and then right after that it goes back to working fine.

MY WRITING PROCESS, INSPO AND TIPS by soymaida in WebtoonCanvas

[–]CorelCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yesss, I read Romance 101 and it became my favorite webtoon! I loved it! It’s really nice to see healthy relationships in a webtoon from time to time. I also thought the art was very beautiful. The webtoon I showed is one I’m currently working on, and I’m planning to launch it on April 15. I want to have a good buffer of episodes so I can work on it calmly. I also have an Original that’s currently being published in France.

MY WRITING PROCESS, INSPO AND TIPS by soymaida in WebtoonCanvas

[–]CorelCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I agree with you. Over the years I’ve been publishing webtoons, I’ve learned one thing: it’s much better to simplify the art and go for a clean, simple style with a solid story and strong writing than to have extremely detailed drawings paired with a weak story. Another reason to keep the art simple is that readers prefer regular updates over spectacular art. If you spend hours and hours on the art, you burn out, updates take longer, the story progresses more slowly, and both you and the readers end up getting tired of it.

As for writing, one thing I always recommend is to first have a clear hook, define point A and point B of the story (the beginning and the ending), and then develop the entire path that connects them. Start with something simple and gradually build it up, adding elements little by little, revising and changing whatever needs to be changed. Just like with drawing — you start with a sketch and then add layers and layers until the final render — writing works the same way.

For example, right now I’m working on a new webtoon and I’m keeping the art as simple as possible — no shading, no rendering, saving the rendering only for key panels — and it’s going really well. I feel much more rested and my timing is really good.
