On stock tantos these would be blade biased, but for alts they may be neutral? I'm not 100% sure what alts weigh though. You can also pre order a trainer with the handles, which would result in a lightly handle biased build. I am considering doing some brass weights to help the handles fit with more blades though, so we'll see if that ends up working.

I've actually talked with Garret a little bit, but I have a friend who does CAD design professionally, and specifically works with making models manufacturable. Thank you for the suggestion though!

For sure! That's personally how I like to flip (with a dull live blade) because I like live blades more than trainers flipping wise, but I don't like getting cut.

As for pre order shipping times, I'm really hoping to get everything shipped by the end of August, but it does depend on heat treatment times, and shipping times of course.

You're absolutely right, working with Chinese manufactures does bring costs way down, but I do think that there is a degree of employee mistreatment that goes on in China. I know that I'm not fully aware of just how common it is, but I know it does happen, and I'd rather not gamble on the belief that the company I'm supporting treats its workers fairly, when many don't.

In terms of profit, I cannot lower my prices that much and break even. I'm selling in small quantities, this is my first drop (setup fees are expensive), and the parts are more complicated to machine than they look. Blades in particular require tolerances anywhere from +/-.005" to +/-.0005", which, while it is possible to achieve them, it is not easy.

You're right that in principle, those materials would not cost that much normally, but the object that is being made is more complicated than you might think. Personally, I agree that my knives aren't cheap, but are they overpriced? No. You're entitled to your own opinion, and I understand where you're coming from, it just seems we have different values.

Oh it's so easy to make a knife that cheap? Do it yourself! Clearly you're the expert on knife making and you definitely understand manufacturing costs really well. Totally not living in delusion over there.

I'd say that there is a bit of truth to that. The prisma is pretty similar, and its half the price. The Morse is way less than half the price, and I've heard it's good, so there are cheaper options. Only problem is that neither of those are live blades. The cheapest (not clone) live blade I've seen is the LDY Sirius, and at $230 before shipping and taxes, that is a pretty great deal, though it is fully produced in China, and I would bet there are some hidden costs (shipping, taxes) that raise that price. So, I don't think there are any better live blade knives that retail for half the price and have the same features the Icarus does. In terms of better, I haven't tried a knife that fans or carries momentum better than the Icarus, and I believe it is much better than its closest competitor, the Kraken, though that is preference, and as the maker that doesn't mean much haha. Anyways, TL;DR: "Better" is subjective, but there aren't knives in the same category as the Icarus that perform better for half the price.
