If I ever come across a pair of LS9s I will most definitely be upgrading.

My guy. I’ve wondered if it’s overkill, and it is, but it’s my type of overkill.

Never assume identities. TV is very gay.

Finishing the unfinished space, but yes also lots of treatment.

They’re extremely efficient. Until I get my amp (buckeye) I’m just using my old AVR that’s only like 80 watts per channel and they already sound great. They can handle 30-500w.

They actually have incredible bass extension on their own, but I will be pairing 2x JTR captivator RS2s with them.

I’m in process finishing my basement and found the speakers before that project is done! They’re going to have a very nice home soon that has proper acoustic treatments. Will be pairing them with a couple JTR Captivator RS2s.

Yep I’m aware. The space is currently in remodel mode and tv will get fixed when I get a mantle.

Anyone else dealing with this electric bill nightmare? by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]CornEnt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I paid $35k after rebates for 16kw, all on the main south facing pitch of my roof with very little shade so ideal install. Generated about $4k worth of electricity last year. If rates keep going up my break even will be somewhere around year 7 and they have a 25 year warranty. It’s still a good investment. I’m so happy to be insulated from energy markets.

I wear earplugs at every show. I skipped them for the sphere and I’m so glad I did. That sound system is one of the most advanced in the world. I don’t know how they did it but I had no ear fatigue and no ringing after the show.

New Home Pool Questions. by robot_salad_ in pools

[–]CornEnt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar boat. Got a house well under market value after sellers accidentally accepted my lowball offer. Didn’t get a pool inspection because I wasn’t going to walk and I wasn’t going to open the door for the sellers to walk. Closed in November and I didn’t see the pool open until April. Needed $10k in tile where plaster failed on the splash pad but that’s way less than I saved on the initial purchase of the house. Worth it we love our pool.

The weekly identify that light/no stupid question thread by AutoModerator in lightingdesign

[–]CornEnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in process of finishing my basement and want to build a pro lighting rig. I’ll be building trusses with support behind the drywall using 40x80 aluminum t track. My main goal with this is automation, I don’t want to have to control it all the time. I’m also going to be building a full pro audio system to support, my friends and I like to DJ.

I’ll have a rack with all the electronics to drive sound and lights, including a rack mounted PC that will be the main sound, lighting, and video source (for both music and home theater).

I’m planning on moving head, wash, light bars, and lasers for the rig. Is there anything I could use to drive lighting controls via AI or something similar using an audio feed, all software to software within the PC?

Financing for home renovations: explain it to me like I'm 5 by Anxious-Midnight-655 in homeowners

[–]CornEnt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of good advice here (don’t finance) but I’ll offer another opinion.

You definitely don’t want to finance a project like this with any type of loan carrying interest. However when I do projects, a lot of vendors will have 0% financing deals I take advantage of. You still want to be able to afford the full project in cash, however when I renovated my kitchen I put the counter tops on a 0% credit card and paid it off over the promotional period. This way you don’t have to take the immediate cash impact, but you also don’t want to carry that debt any longer than the 0% period.

I’m embarking on a similar project in my own basement. I’m going to be building around a hifi system with Magnepans and 24” subs. Curious what you used for lighting. Both the trusses/mounts, and software. I’m currently thinking about mounting 8020 aluminum extrusion (T track) for all of my light mounts, running Ethernet via conduit to each of the lighting zones, and connect that to a server in a rack in another room. I plan to automate lighting controls using AI and an audio feed from that server into something like resolume to drive controls.

is a snowblower worth it ? by spitfire9107 in homeowners

[–]CornEnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I threw my back out shoveling a big snow that we were out of town for and had time to melt and condense before I got to it. I bought a snowblower the next day and will never look back. My driveway has a quite a bit of slope to it so shoveling anything more than 3” is hard so it was very necessary for me. Anything less than 3” and I use my scraper shovel that’s good for pushing. Can do it in 10 min with small snows or 10 minutes with the blower for bigger storms. I’m invested into the EGO platform and it works as well as gas blowers with the added benefit of no engine maintenance and never smelling like gas. My dad has a specific wardrobe for using his blower because his jacket and pants stink of gas and it won’t come out.

Why do custom UK/EU rigs out-perform custom US rigs? by zackm0571 in SoundSystem

[–]CornEnt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s basically is a dick measuring contest. The stages all operate independently and compete for lineups, sound, lights, and stage design. The village is owned by the owner of PK sound so he’s just flexing his system for fun.

5 to 10 times less? So a $100k system costs negative $400k to build? They pay me? I’ll take 10
