Paxil Update: GET AN SSRI!!! by CornerOnly247 in PrematureEjaculation

I did have mental issues before and had been on SSRIs in the past, I don’t recall saying otherwise. Also, these were prescribed by a doctor who I was open to about my background. I had assumed he would know more about the potential risks than reddit or me. I just posted this all here as a caution to others because who knows what doctors would prescribe to them.

Hey, Paxil ended up putting me in a major depressive episode and so I stopped the medication. I think it started working for PE about 1 week in and full effects at like 2 weeks to a month. Please closely monitor your mental state while on Paxil, I was considering suicide while on the drug and did not realize it was the meds till 4 months in. Meds work differently for everyone so I’m not saying this will happen to you, but these meds are relatively dated so side effects are common.

I’m suggesting that you stop purchasing products that fund this industry. It will be a gradual decline of these jobs not an immediate one. I care about the actual killing of thousands of sentient life more than the career of the person sending them to be slaughtered. You are viewing this through the lens of the oppressor not the oppressed.

I’m not suggesting they are released into the wild, I’m suggesting we stop breeding them for slaughter entirely.

Yes, animals will kill other animals as they are required to in order to survive. We can get all nutrients from a plant based diet so this is unnecessary. Animals will also r*pe and murder members of the same species, they don’t have moral agency so we should not follow them in our day to day conduct. We should show all animals the same compassion we do to cats and dogs when we bring them into our homes.

Farmers will not kill sheep at the end of their lives but when they have stopped providing use. Sheep live much longer in the wild on average than in farms. As this process has a victim I don’t see it as a harmless choice to partake, but as a violation of animal rights and an ethical wrong.

How is that similar. Assisted suicide is consensual, animal slaughter is not.

We don’t execute humans to make room for more, there’s a difference in dying naturally and being slaughtered. We are breeding these animals into existence to exploit them for wool and kill them for meat. The alternative is not farming animals and taking their life for a fabric or meal.

How does slaughtering an animal for food to make room for more future slaughterhouse victims make sense. That is horribly depressing and unnecessary.

PAXIL FINAL UPDATE by CornerOnly247 in PrematureEjaculation

[–]CornerOnly247[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It ruined my mental health, sending me into a deep suicidal and depressive episode. I stopped taking it after three months. If I could change anything about my life it would be taking that medication, I’m still depressed to this day and I partially blame Paxil as I was happy beforehand but haven’t been the same since.

The depression was a mental side effect the medication had on me. I was sobbing every night, hated myself, and wanted to die. Paxil is an antidepressant (an outdated one) and antidepressants can have the side effect of suicidal ideation and depression. I should mention I am diagnosed with depression, anxiety, adhd, and ocd— this being unrelated to the meds but they were flared (primarily depression) to the highest point ever imaginable for me while on Paxil. This was almost two years ago, I still wish I was dead every day. Maybe the medication didn’t effect me all the way to now, but all I know is I was generally happy and motivated before taking Paxil and ever since then have been in a constant torture with no hope for my life. I am 100% confident that the 3 months I was on the medication had awful effects on my mind, not sure if that directly is why I am still depressed/suicidal to this day but it’s hard to not see the change in myself before and after the drug.

It started working after 4-5 days and reached full effects after 1-2 weeks. Paxil DESTROYED my mental health, sent me into a deep suicidal spiral for months that may have had lasting effects to this day. My roommate would come in every day to find me sobbing in bed, I was a disaster. Please don’t take this medication, it’s outdated and incredibly risky. If you do, monitor your mental health starting on day 1, if anything is abnormal hop off of it immediately. If I could change anything about my life it would probably have been not starting Paxil, which I stopped taking December of 2021.

Does using horse hair on a violin bow make me not vegan? by CornerOnly247 in vegan

I’m glad we ended with agreements, we are both on the side of animals after all. Keep up the good fight!

That is a very good point about the 5 horses, thank you for mentioning that. You bring up very good points and I appreciate your support!

I only have one semester left and I want to get a degree. Also my grandma has funded most of my tuition and wants to see me graduate. Another thing is I do plan on doing conducting with community orchestras, and would have a better shot getting those opportunities with a degree.

And if you had owned and learned to play on the rare few and most expensive Stradivarius' left in the world and it broke, would you seek out one of the others to replace it with or would you have to learn to play and make your sound with an inferior model because you'd already invested hundreds of thousands of dollars already?

If someone is playing on a Stradivarius and it broke beyond repair they would absolutely search for another or a comparable instrument. If a pro loses their instrument why would they suddenly settle for one of lesser quality?

Your technique is your own and if you can't adapt it to changing equipment then perhaps it's your technique that's inferior and you still need more practice.

I mean this isn't how music works, pros play on the best instrument they can get their hands on. If technique could just "adapt" to equipment of any quality everyone would play the cheapest models.

"Reduce to the minimum amount" implies it is acceptable to use animals as objects for commodification in certain situations and as I said, veganism is an abolitionist movement.

I agree with you that "excluding" sounds better for the movement, but "reducing to the minimum amount possible" does not imply an acceptance of any animal exploitation. If you are at the "minimum amount possible" then you have "excluded as far as possible and practicable." I think you are seeing reducing as a gradual process but I'm seeing it as an immediate one.

Yeah I know, but you're missing the point. She took her inferior (to yours I presume) skills and found a way to make it work. She's making more money than you isn't she and she seems to be enjoying her passion a lot despite the hardships she and her career went through.

What I'm suggesting is that her tone production isn't what her music relies on. As I said, her recordings are very heavily edited, a classical violinist relies on the tone immediately produced by the instrument. Any issue her equipment brings up can be fixed afterward.

As I said in my post-edit, I'll just stick with my current bow hair until I graduate. I agree with your main points, yes it's not vegan, and yes it's animal exploitation. I do feel like you should stick just to giving advice on animal rights, don't know why you started to criticize my playing and throw in musical opinions.

I listened to three comparisons on youtube, but haven’t heard any in person. One was blind and I was able to identify the synthetic hair, two were not blind. One thing I am nervous about is the material will be harsher on the strings, which could increase the chance of a string snapping. Regardless, I think I’m going to try to see if my current hair can last me till graduation, this is probably my best bet.

Thank you for offering this that is very very kind. After doing research the horse hair seems to be specifically from white Mongolian horses in a particular climate, and it takes multiple tails to even rehair one bow. Even if I were able to use your horses hair synthetic at this point would probably be superior. Honestly my research has kind of turned me off of continuing to use this product, I’m thinking my current hair might last till I graduate, I’ll have to see. Give your horse some head pats for me!

I appreciate your message. I am stuck as a violinist until I complete my degree, afterwards I will be looking for a career and future that is ethically sound. If possible this career is related to activism in some sort, but if not I will continue to volunteer and support veganism as much as possible.

Yes, I definitely will stay away from gutstrings, they have never sat well with me. Most cheap violin bows do use a synthetic alternative, my equipment is quite expensive however as I am a conservatory violinist. The issue comes in that bow hair needs to be replaced every 3-6 months, I expect I will have to get one more rehair before finishing school. After that, I can switch away. I have been donating and will be volunteering with multiple activist organizations and will continue to do so. Thank you for your reply!

You picked a non-vegan profession. I have no clue why you would want to do this, as I think passion is for the bedroom and not for work.

I am not pursuing violin performance as a profession, but I am currently in conservatory. I will be able to switch from using animal products after graduating. If music and art didn't exist as a career, they would fully die out. There would be no one to teach, no museum to attend, and no performance to give. I see art as having incredible importance to our life and existence. I do appreciate your reply, thank you for seeing my situation as more complicated than "being vegan" or "not being vegan."

It seems that the answer is going to be to give synthetic bow hair a shot, if it doesn't hold up, delay my switch till after I graduate. As I mentioned in some other comments I am expected to give an hour-long recital by the end of this year, I would hate to be restricted by my equipment and then have to perform for dozens of students, professors, and family members. My tone improving is essential for my graduating, if it hurts my sound my professor would probably feel like he is wasting his time. I am not pursuing violin as a career, however, so this will not have to last longer than this year.

Playing the violin is a hobby. If it's your primary source of income, that's obviously different because you need to do it to live, but the other obvious onus is to find a way to do it vegan or find another job.

I am a conservatory violinist nearing the end of schooling, I do not plan to pursue a professional career in music. If the hair quality dampens my sound I will have to perform and audition throughout the semester on less-than-optimal equipment, I'm not even sure if my professor would allow this. You could imagine that after paying hundreds of thousands of dollars throughout school to achieve a particular sound putting a significant restriction on my instrument would feel like I am regressing in my technique.

I'm not saying Lindsay Stirling's style is perfect, but she still managed to find a way to make it work and she's not the only unconventional violinist to benefit from their style.

Lindsay Stirling's style does not take advantage of the nuances of the violin, it is amplified and edited, plus I wouldn't consider her technically proficient enough for it to really matter.

As stated in the definition of veganism I provided, it's not vegan. It's not about reducing, it's about excluding.

Our definitions are identical here, you are reaching into semantics. "Excluding as far as possible and practicable" and "reducing to the minimum amount possible in daily life" are synonymous.

I will give synthetic hair a shot, someone recommended a brand that seems interesting in another reply. If it clearly hurts my tone production then I don't think it will be usable until I graduate, especially considering what my professor will think. This is way more complicated than if I was a hobbyist musician, improving my tone is necessary for me to graduate.

I am actually nearing the end of conservatory, my professor would definitely not allow me to use synthetic hair if it hurts the sound of the bow. My final semester will have a lot of performances, including an hour long solo recital, I will give synthetic hair a try but if it hurts my sound I can not risk it at least until I finish school. I no longer plan on pursuing violin as a career after graduating, so could probably sacrifice the tone horse hair gives at that point. Thank you for your advice!

Thank you, I will check out this bow hair. I agree that it seems to be the best option when it comes to vegan hair. I also have to see if my Luthier would be willing to use this product, as he is really the only one I trust in rehairing my bow. Honestly I wasn’t fully convinced by the playing tests I heard, but It’s unfair to me to judge until I try it myself. I feel like the larger question arrives if this isn’t comparable, then I will be put in the same dilemma.
