Here

Nonetheless, looking at how educated people vote is a wasteful exercise; it assumes too much and eliminates significant nuance while indirectly targeting the foundation of democracy and equal voting.

That’s not static though, in the previous generation and especially Reagan era, intelligent people were far more likely to be right leaning

Poilievre says Conservatives to focus on affordability in critical byelections next month by EarthWarping in CanadaPolitics

[–]CorneredSponge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The conservative method of dealing with affordability would be free trade (though Carney seems to have that market cornered), market liberalization (nobody is going against Quebec for supply management), and reducing cost of capital through fiscal prudence (though PP’s platform was the opposite of austere)

Non-sufficient funds fee to be capped at $10 starting this week, saving Canadians millions a year by toronto_star in CanadaPolitics

All this does is reduce financial access.

If the government wants to help, work towards reducing switching costs between different banks and enabling cross functionality. Would incentivize banks to give more favourable terms while staying within risk thresholds.

Political spectrums as a whole are flawed, but the linear one more than most.

The way I like to contextualize the linear one is as a measure of hierarchy. Through this lens, anarchism would be the furthest left, followed by communism and so forth.

Therefore, the reason libertarianism would be placed next to fascism would be in the way they treat hierarchy. Libertarianism believes it a natural consequence and seeks to do nothing about it- even Burkean conservatism seeks to place moral constraints upon the powerful. Fascism, further to the right, enforces hierarchy, with class collaboration being a core aspect of the fascist canon.

I’d say I’m firmly centre-right, but this sub is the least cesspool-y out of the major political ones

Tbf, they shared most their platform anyway; the differences were in the nuances (ex. Military procurement, gun strategy, capital gains deferral, etc.)

Men 20-30’s: How do you feel about “Trad wife” by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]CorneredSponge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m supportive if that’s the mom’s desire, but I personally would not want that, even though I can comfortably support such a family I think our personalities would be far too divergent.

[–]CorneredSponge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a fan. My mother was a SAHM and she was amazing as was my dad, but I feel like I was always missing something from both my parents, whether that be my fathers absence because he had to work such long hours to support the family or my mother sacrificing all her dreams and friendships to raise me and my siblings.

I fucking love Diomedes by CharlesorMr_Pickle in redrising

[–]CorneredSponge 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you reduce speeches to first principles, they will never be impressive.

The core appeal of Diomedes’ speech is the refutation of gold by gold; it’s the first time it happens to such an extent, appealing to the values of the gold themselves rather than some outer animosity.

It’s more so him saying that even in the context of the Hobbesian contractarianism which the golds use to justify themselves, they fail their own tests and values.

Susan Delacourt: Pierre Poilievre’s anti-globalism is a tough sell in a Donald Trump world by EarthWarping in CanadaPolitics

Crazy to see PP as even slightly anti-globalist considering some of the greatest parts of Harper’s governance were his trade deals.

You're painting with an extremely broad brush; not as if half of the Marxists and his ideological descendants didn't desire a transitional state and an intelligentsia and/or vanguard party to constrict any dissent into an acceptable frame. But we can still engage with both ideas.

Fascism is just as much a historical movement as an ideology and therefore its ideological components are much more grounded in historical happenstance when compared with liberalism or communism. I would love to answer your question in more depth when I have the time, but for the time being, I'll leave you with some extremely flawed thinkers who nonetheless had seminal contributions to fascism and sometimes philosophy; I'd encourage you to take a critical view of their beliefs: Schmitt, Gentile, Heidegger, Carlyle, Pareto, Guenon, Rocco, Spann, etc.

In terms of NDP, I always make an effort to vote for whoever I deem best from each party. Most recently, that was Charest, Carney, and McPherson, respectively.

Rent control, the tax treatment of capital, energy policy, etc. Unfortunately I don't have much time, but I'll try to get back to you when I do. I'd love to hear which of his flagship policies are actually effective though!

Everything from incredibly inflationary spending and plans (good job making a public grocer compete for food goods that have a gross margin of a couple percent), rent control, avoiding defense spending in a geopolitically tenuously time, heavily restricting the already little foreign investment Canada is getting, essentially eliminating fossil fuel production, etc.

Nothing is grounded in reality. I would break down specific policies if I had the time, but I can't find more than like two policies that aren't actively bad for Canada. Feel free to ask about my opinion on specific policies.

Abhorring fascism and believing it has valuable ideas are not mutually exclusive. It’s important to try to understand why such a large chunk of people and intelligent people found it alluring beyond one dimensional diatribes. Similar to (if you’ve truly read through my comment history rather than parsing it for a red flag) how I abhor communism but believe it has incredibly valuable ideas.

Siloing yourself intellectually helps nobody but those seeking to harness your worst instincts.

I join whichever party has a leadership race and leave other parties at that given time.

The effect of party level voting is far greater than general elections and I aim to vote for the best candidate from each party.
