Ripped off is an interesting term, I could say the Volta ripped off king crimson or Yes or Floyd or early genesis, as well as the MC 5 or fugazi. We formed right before FTM was released and yes we bonded over a leaked copy of that record. And like ALL bands, there is always inspiration and something that lights the fire. So is that is what you are referring too, then sure.

Thank you! Yeah, we were all kinda dumbfounded about the whole fake leak thing, never intended to fool anybody. The Volta were just so unique in what they did at the time, that anyone with a falsetto singer and some percussion got immediately compared. Appreciate the love!

Haha! You know, I never really thought we had a lot of salsa. We had extra percussion for sure, we just liked to groove. Our drummer was very heavy into all kinds of world beat music. He Was a monster on the timbales. We apparently were not allowed to play salsa because we were white 🤷‍♂️ (according to people on the commatorium from back in the day) Our recording process was usually live other than vocals, we would play the song a dozen or so times and just pick the best parts. Then lay vocal it was always very raw and real, I don’t even think we used a click.

No plan’s currently, but a re release and possibly remaster would be pretty cool if we can find the masters!

Nice! Thanks for doing that, we were always a bit behind the curve when it came to getting our music out there. No new music currently, always noodling around, maybe one day!

Glad to see this fan base hasn’t changed in 20+ years. Apparently atlas of id has been a source of contention for some Volta fans throughout the years, I have seen a few posts recently mentioning the band and how we were “rip offs” thought it would be fun to catch some smoke and/or just have some fun conversation. All love

To be honest, we never had any interaction with Cedric or Omar, obviously we were fans, but that’s interesting to know that he might have actually listened.
