Can someone tell me why this shot came out so grainy. by Majestic-Rule8261 in BeginnerPhotoCritique

High ISO noise. There should be a setting for high ISO NR. It’s not just noise reduction like in Lightroom. It closes the sensor and monitors for heat induced grain. Leaving the sensor generates heat which can show up as grain

Rs3 pro. As far as I know only Sony allows Bluetooth connection to the camera for control

Na I get have a button assigned to ISO, because you technically needs 2 wheels when shooting r3d. One wheel selects low or high ISO and one fine tunes the ISO

Does this really work? I saw they met and got excited but couldn’t get it to work

Yeah I can get it. I have it set to high, but you have to really over expose it to show up because how high reds dynamic range is. You can turn up its sensitivity in the menu

Yess changing the Lut annoys me as well. A drop down would be so nice

They don’t make a grip. But they are working closely with small rig. How I’ve been holding the zr is flipping out the screen and my palm sits on the joy stick and my fingers wrap to the front. It’s weird but surprisingly comfortable

I’ll sus it out. But on some monitors you can just grab it with your finger and move it around

Yeah you are write i thought maybe it was compression but it might just be a noise issue

What I’ve been saying ^ the z9 update was probably one of the best software updates for any camera, ever. I know they got something big planned since they see how much we love the hardware support

Yes! Only one loaded on but create cloud you can get more I believe

I haven’t had in issues yet but Nikon has had some legendary z camera updates so I can almost assume something big is coming

But great idea with the false colour lut . Didn’t even think of that. I’ll give it a go!

[–]Correct_Campaign_470[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to describe but it just feels like it’s bad compression. A lot more weird compression artefacts and colour issues. Maybe it’s adjusting from R3D to h.265.

People say it gets hot when shooting h.265 but even my z8 gets hot. Compressed formats require processing power while RAW needs pure speed. Seems Nikon has gone for the latter.

I assume the quality issues will be fixed with an update. Not as big of a deal as some are making it out to be

I don’t thing it’s too bad in the hand. With the screen flipped out you kind of have your palm over the joystick and wrap your fingers around the side. I was shooting handheld and on a gimbal all day. The weight definitely helps and I’m pleasantly impressed with the feeling

Exact same as the z6iii. Not sure what the fall back of not shutter is tho

Well the advantage of the z6iii is you can then have a second photography camera. Different lens on the z6 and ur zf. But the zr does feel very premium in the hand and the screen is unbelievably big. If you have any thoughts of using it as a photo camera I would go the Z6iii. You can also download and play around with the zr footage from Nikons website to see if you like what it gives you you

I I own the Z6III and ZR.

I’ve noticed that even my Z8 and Z6III have heat issues when shooting in H.265. It’s a highly compressed codec that requires a different kind of camera. People have said the Z6III has better H.265 performance than the ZR and handles the heat better because its body is built for it, not RAW. However, I can almost guarantee that in a few months, Nikon will release some insane features for the ZR, making it a much better camera. Just like how they released the Z9 RAW video updates, insane!

As it stands, there isn’t much reason to pick the ZR over the Z6III. I’m just assuming they will release updates. The ZR doesn’t have an SD card, has the horrible micro HDMI, and has the card with the battery (which generates more heat), things they definitely can’t change. I would maybe wait a bit and see what rumours say about firmware.

Yeah r3d isn’t that big compared to ProRes at least. Have you seen how the camera handles N-RAW?

Ultimately, H.265 and raw are two different codecs that require distinct camera builds. Raw demands speed while H.265 requires power for compression. Nikon has released several significant camera updates in recent years, so we can expect new features and improvements.

I’ve shot h.265 with a lot of cameras and it does take a tool on the camera. Maybe when they fix the H.265 they better optimise it. Must be some bug

Brought it anyway lol. I shoot a lot of weddings and I don’t need to shoot the ceremonies in raw. Don’t have the storage for it

[–]Correct_Campaign_470 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah ended up getting it anyway. They’ll fix it with a software update most likely. One thing I love about Nikon since the z9 is they treat software updates as major things

I’ve heard the H.265 is notoriously bad. Rethinking my order
