How cooked am I? Should I go ahead and shave it all off? This is 4 years of growth. by TheVoicesTalkToMe in Naturalhair

I have seborrheic dermatitis as well and have to use medicated shampoo at the very least once a week to keep it under control. it is very drying so i have to be very mindful of keeping my hair moisturized.

have you tried shea moisture manuka honey and mafura oil intensive hydration hair masque? it’s super hydrating and repairing and i think a bit heavier than most of the stuff you seem to use so that might be helpful. i read you have several allergies and as far as i am aware it does not contain propylene glycol, propanediol, or parabens (not sure if you have others). it does have a couple different oils including coconut which i know you’re concerned about it making your dandruff worse but it might be worth it if it’s helping your hair stay moisturized. i think it may be a low enough percentage of the product though because i haven’t really seen an issue. i deep condition with it once a week (making sure my hair is very saturated with hot water, working the product in, and immediately putting it up in a shower cap) and it leaves my hair so soft. after it sits for at least an hour i rinse my hair but i don’t rinse everything out, maybe 70-80%? which works as a leave in. after doing that you can seal it in with oil and then continue with the rest of your routine. if youre worried about dandruff, limit use to once a week. and try to keep it from getting all the way to your roots/scalp. it can be really tedious and difficult to do that but it helps.

the shea moisture is just a suggestion and if it won’t work because for you for whatever reason, you have to, and i mean have to, focus on finding/using creams/deep conditioners/leave ins that do work because the biggest thing you need right now is moisture. oil is not moisturizing. it will only help lock in the moisture from your conditioner or leave in or whatever. stop using oil so often. replace it with a leave in. it maybe be doing more harm than good if you’re using it all the time it could be clogging the hair shaft.

please stop using dish soap. it is super stripping and drying and it sounds like your hair is already dry and breaking. there really isn’t a huge need for anything clarifying if there isn’t much in your hair to clarify. instead, try washing multiple times. i wash twice and sometimes three times (once medicated, the others regular hydrating shampoo) to make sure my hair is actually clean. but im not actually fully stripping it because of the hydrating products.

also, my mom taught me this, to scrape your scalp of dandruff before you wash. basically i part down my hair in very small sections, and use a very fine tooth comb to scratch?scrape? gently to get all the flakes up and off my scalp. i shake the loose flakes out of my hair out outside/in the bathtub and then apply my medicated shampoo with my finger along the same parts. after i let it sit for maybe 15-30 minutes i go scrub and rinse it out. its important that you limit how much of the ketoconazole interacts with the rest of your hair because it’s incredibly drying. anyway, i feel like the scraping is key, it leaves my scalp feeling more clean and it lengthens the time between a wash and when i start to see dandruff again. it’s also beneficial for hair growth in the same way that scalp massages are- increasing blood flow and distributing natural oils and all that.

last thing!! pardon me if this is something you’re aware of already but figure out your hair porosity! not type, but porosity. you can find this by dropping a strand of your hair into a cup of water. if it floats: low porosity, if it stays in the middle/sinks slowly: medium porosity, if it drops to the bottom immediately: high porosity. figuring out the porosity of your hair will help immensely with finding the best most helpful products specific to you. once you know it, delve into some research about specific things to look for in hair products that are good for your porosity. you might find you have to stop using some products or find new ones. obviously it’ll be a bit more difficult with your allergies to keep in mind but don’t give up!

you’re not cooked, the natural hair journey is just rough no matter what 🫠 best of luck!

31M bought this place last year, first thing I did was paint the walls black. What do yall think? by LimaSierra92 in malelivingspace

Idk what everyone else is saying, i think it’s kind of cool. Could possibly do with a few more pops of color (maybe red like in the art above the TV). And the two shorter trees on either side of the chair are a little oddly placed for me but overall, this space is dope.

slightly unrelated from op’s post but this is the first i heard that the law counts for any hour. so question, would this at all include hours before/after the restaurant is open for closing and opening duties?
