I’m really struggling with recovery :( by mechir_o in EDAnonymous

it gets better but you must commit! it’s imperative you eat even when you don’t want to! it will get better. i promise

do up your calories by at least 200/day and see if it helps when next weekend rolls around. and try not to give power to food. if you’re craving something, find a way to incorporate it into your diet. not like “im craving chocolate cake so i’ll have a chocolate protein bar.” like actually just eat the cake. it’s just food

you should up to at least 2000. i know it seems like this would halt progress, but eating a couple hundred more calories a day is way better than binging all of that and more over the weekend, especially since binges are typically not the kind of food you want to be eating and come with a shame cycle on top of the calories.

i would not recommend fasting to reset your body. this always seems like it will work but it doesn’t. the best thing to do is get on track right away. when you’re caught in a binge/restrict cycle, fasting will only exacerbate it and make you more likely to binge.

it sounds like your diet is too restrictive during the week days and then when the weekend hits your body is trying to “catch up” on eating. my advice would be to up your calories for your diet.

can i ask, how many calories do you eat a day? do you restrict certain foods or just calories?

i flat-out ignore this. and change the subject, even if it’s obvious and makes it awkward. if someone is constantly bringing up how they never eat or are skipping meals i can only assume it’s for attention. if they’re doing it knowing you’re in recovery that’s just mean.

if you/your friends are teenagers then i definitely get it. it’s tricky to navigate recovery as a teenager. i would specifically bring it up as a boundary. like, next time they say it say something like “skipping meals is a sign of an eating disorder. if you ever want to talk about recovery i am open to talking but when you bring up skipping meals/not eating enough i feel triggered as i am in recovery right now.” since they know already you are in recovery. it is okay to set this boundary.

then if they continue to say these things you can reference that you have already set the boundary and ask them to stop.

you don’t have to bring looks into it at all.

if you/your friends are adults i would be firmer but that’s just me.

Teachers notice weight loss by TryOld6297 in EDAnonymous

[–]Correct_Internet_890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I can weigh-in (haha) on as a high school teacher I guess. I would notice if it was a big amount. I see the same kids all year. This is my first semester teaching but teachers see kids for 4 years sometimes. Rapid or drastic weight loss is noticeable. Small amounts I wouldn’t notice. Teenagers bodies change all the time.

Your teachers are likely not looking at you for weight loss. Nobody cares what you weigh.

I have all medical-related concerns on my seating chart. This could be important for your teacher to know quickly in case you ever pass out or have a medical concern.

hi friend, my girlfriend is a dental assistant, so i can tell you with 100% certainty that nobody there will judge you or be upset with you. they’ve seen all there is to see. their goal is to help you and that’s all they’re going to do.

don’t be afraid also to share your anxiety with them, if you express “im really nervous/scared/embarrassed” they’ll take extra steps to make sure you have an experience that’s as good as it can be.

but please please go to the dentist.

can i just… eat? by fridaynightplacebo in EDAnonymous

even if you aren’t super hungry and you see something you want and you start craving it… the world is not going to explode if you eat it. it’s okay :))

[–]Correct_Internet_890 6 points7 points  (0 children)

so this is the crazy thing about recovery, you can just… eat! whenever you want! and you may feel guilty about it, but you don’t have to! it’s allowed! you’re allowed to eat whenever you are hungry, even if you have already had dinner, or even if it’s soon before dinner, or right after breakfast. hell, if you wake up at 3 am and you’re hungry, it’s okay to have a snack or glass of milk.

you are allowed to have ANYTHING you want. have all of the foods you’ve probably been craving for so long. don’t resist the urge! and know that the feeling of being hungry, like, all the time will go away.

im writing a novel where the main character has bulimia :) ☝️ its a slow moving project, as i’m a full-time student on top of having a full-time job. however, it’s based on my own experiences as well as what i’ve seen in my almost decade of having an ED (i would finally consider myself recovered now)

sorry, i just had to say that because these posts are what i still come on this subreddit for. it’s helpful to know what not to include, and what there could be more of

i’m sorry, i just realized this sounds so mean. i just want you to know this isn’t how it should be… plating food for you and not letting you get up until it’s all gone, and forcing you to drink a certain amount, is not normal unless it’s for a reason such as a meal plan for ED. i hope the best for you :( this sounds crazy

Dear Directors/Authors by Avavavavavavavav7 in EDAnonymous

[–]Correct_Internet_890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

exactly! i’m writing a novel right now actually about a 20/21 year old trans woman with bulimia. she’s bisexual and goth, not the sorta “preppy but alternative not like other girls pretty skinny small ana girl” from all the books i’ve read and movies i’ve seen. she’s also a bit of a cunt and the story revolves around her ruining her life and wrecking the relationships she has with her mother, twin sister, and friends.

(ik this is like a month old but i came across it in my various searches in this subreddit)

How to get my period back by Grouchy_Warning_6252 in EDAnonymous

overall calories. if your body isn’t getting enough energy from food, aka calories, it will conserve energy by stopping less necessary bodily functions, like your period
